Nathaniel D. Hamlin's name appeared in the history of Sioux County for a while when it was first settled.
His first daughter, Clara, was born then on August 9, 1890. He was a brother-in-law of Benjamin F. Thomas.

Notes for ELVA CRANE:
Nathaniel Douglas Hamlin Jr., the husband Elva Crane, was a horse trader in Harrison, NE. They lived in a log cabin. One day while he was out trading, an Indian came through the door and helped himself to come food on the table, then wiped his greasy hands on his loin cloth, and started getting feisty with Mrs. Hamlin. She went to the big fireplace, got down the musket gun and shot the Indian in the leg. Two other Indians came through the door and hauled him out of there.
