Notes for William Hamlin: During the War of 1812, William Hamlin served in Captain Seward's company, under Col. Richard Johnson, in the command of Gen. Shelby of Kentucky.
William fought in the Battle of Thames, on October 15, 1818, with his father John and half brother James Larol or Lard.
William told his son Nathaniel that after Tecumsah was killed in that battle, he took his headdress and tomahawk as a prize of war. The items were lost or stolen when they came back from Canada.
William, also a strong man, had black eyes, and a red beard.
He served under Seward from August 28 to November 3, 1813, according to the United States Record of the Pension Bureau.
