Notes for Mary Smith: Mary Smith came to Audubon County in 1851 after her husbands death. She located the land warrant for the military service of her husband on the northeast quarter of the southeast quarter of section 7, and the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter and the southwest quarter of section 8, township 77, range36 on Buck Creek, now Pymosa township, Cass County, IA. A patent was issued to her for the same on September 20, 1862, signed by Abraham Lincoln, President.
Nathaniel built a one room cabin on his own land about 20 feet from his own home shere she gathered her treasured belongs and slept, taking her meals whenever able, with the family. She made her home with the family until her death at the age of 100 yeaars, 1 month and 9 days. Her grave site is in cemetery not far from her son Nathanial and his wife Margaret.
