George Poage was captian of militia in 1767 in Augusta Co.; commandant Fort Dinwiddie on the Jackson River; Major in the Cherokee Expedition, 1776-1777; colonel Botetourt militia 1779; captain Second Battalion 1781; and appointed a justice of the peace by Thomas Jefferson May 29, 1781, qualified March 19, 1882.
