Ahaz (â´hàz), d. c.727 B.C., king of Judah (c.731-727 B.C.). His reign marked the end of the real independence of Judah. In the BIBLE he is opposed by ISAIAH for his alliance with Assyria against Israel and Syria, and denounced for having heathen abominations and for using the Temple gold to pay tribute to Assyria.
