Manasseh (me-nąs“e) or Manasses. 1 First son of Joseph and eponymous ancestor of one of the 12 tribes of ISRAEL. 2 King of Judah (c.696-c.642 B.C.). He fostered foreign cults. The Prayer of Manasses, one of the pseudepigrapha, placed in the APOCRYPHA in the Authorized Version, is given as his penitential prayer.
