14. DANIEL3 SHOEMAKER (SAMUEL2, LUCELLA MARGARET SMITH PATERNAL1 ANCESTORS) was born September 23, 1787, and died March 31, 1843 in Catlin, Chemung County, New York. He married (1) UNKNOWN. He married (2) HANNAH UNK BURROUGHS.

Notes for DANIEL SHOEMAKER:
Daniel Shoemaker was married twice. Henry Shoemaker was the son of his first wife, of whom has not been determined. Hannah Burroughs or Barrows was Daniel Shoemaker's second wife. Daniel had a brother, Abraham, who was a tavern keeper.

Daniel Shoemaker: Descended from Hendrick Jochemsz Schoonmaker, 1624-1683, who is the subject of a genealogical society of that name in New Paltz, New York. Hendrick came to America in the early 1600's as a Lieutenant in the Dutch West India Co., and settled at Esopus (Now Kingston), Ulster Co., N.Y. He was also an officer in the French and Indian Wars, being gravely wounded. He came to the Hudson Valley in 1653.

Henry Shoemaker, Daniel's son, came to Ohio in the canal days with Caleb and Maria Goff. The Goff's were the parents of Henry's wife. (Eliza Jane Goff).
Henry Shoemaker, died of Cholera during an epidemic in Maumee, Ohio, in 1854. -source William Shoemaker, II, of Pa., and Mrs. Doyle Lloyd of Ohio.

15. CHARLES3 GOFF (TERTULIUS2, LUCELLA MARGARET SMITH PATERNAL1 ANCESTORS) was born October 15, 1791, and died March 18, 1864 in town of Torry in Yates County, N.Y.. He married (1) ELIZABETH. He married (2) OLEVIA.

Notes for CHARLES GOFF:
Charles Goff was born October 15, 1791 and died March 18, 1864. He married Olevia ?, who was born August 31, 1795 and died November 26, 1829, at age 34 years, 3 months and 5 days, according to cemetery stone.

He married secondly Elizabeth ? (possibly DePeu) who already had several daughters and two sons.

Charles and Olevia Goff's son Washington Goff was born April 16, 1820 and died as a baby on December 11, 1821.

Washington probably died young. Research of Old Lodi Cemetery and Halsey Cemetery stones. Washinton son of charles and Olevia - December 11, 1821, died January -7-1825.



16. CALEB3 GOFF (TERTULIUS2, LUCELLA MARGARET SMITH PATERNAL1 ANCESTORS) was born July 16, 1798 in New York, and died October 06, 1879. He married (1) LYDIA ANN //. He married (2) ELLEN MARIA VINCENT.

Notes for CALEB GOFF:
Caleb Goff was a canal boatman.

1850 Census - Lucas Waynesfield, p.34
Caleb Goff 51 yr-old male, boatman, born in New York. - with him is Ellen M. age 50 yr old female. Turtulius 21 year-old male - boatman, born in N.Y. and Mary 19 year-old female. Also a Isaiah Elliott 17 m. Boatman, born, unknown.

Caleb Goff found in the 1860 census, Lucas County and ward Maumee City, p. 283, July 11, occupation boat builder - wife Maria (as is )(Ellen Maria) age 60, both born N. Y. living with them was a Miller Shoemaker, age 9, his grandson - had to be Eliza Jane's son. Her husband, Henry Shoemaker, at that time was deceased.

Caleb died at age 81 years.

According to cemetery records, Caleb was married twice. The first marriage was to Lydia Ann //, born December 5, 1800 and died December 16, 1821.
The second marriage was to Ellen Maria Vincent who was born in 1799. She is the mother of his children.

According to cemetery records he had a daughter Lucy Ann who was born September 3, 1822, and died September 11, 1829, at 7 years, 8 days. I have no reason to believe that this was either Lydia Ann's child or Ellen Maria Vincent's child as, Lydia Ann was dead by that time and Ellen Maria gave birth to a daugther Eliza Jane Goff on September 21, 1822.

There could have been more children. These, except Eliza Jane, were taken from the 1850 census, Lucas County, Waynesfield Twsp. P. 34.

17. HIRAM3 GOFF (TERTULIUS2, LUCELLA MARGARET SMITH PATERNAL1 ANCESTORS) was born September 17, 1802 in Lodi, New York, Seneca County, and died March 05, 1864. He married (1) ELIZA VINCENT December 18, 1828. He married (2) SARAH MORRIS May 1839 in Lodi, New York.

Notes for HIRAM GOFF:
, Hiram Goff is the brother of Caleb Goff. He and his second wife had seven children. His first wife Eliza Vincent, who died July 2, 1838, age 33 years, 1 month and 10 days. They had ten years of marriage and had no live children. Hiram's grave does not seem to be at West Lodi cemetery, per Mrs. Clayton V. Brown, historian, Lodi, N.Y..

Hiram Goff was married twice. First marriage was to Eliza Vincent, December 18, 1828. His second marriage was to Sarah Morris in May 1839 and there were seven children from this marriage. Sarah Morris was the mother of all of his children. She died November 20, 1867, at 55 years, 11 months and 6 days.

Hiram's first child, a daughter, was named Eliza Vincent Goff, probably after his first wife.

Eliza Goff, wife of Hiram - (first wife) died July 2, 1838 - age 33 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Sarah Goff, wife of Hiram - (second wife) died November 20, 1867 - age 55 years, 11 months and 6 days.
Silas W. Goff - son of Hiram and Sarah - died February 13, 1870 - age 20 years, one month and 28 days.

Died November 20, 1867 - Mrs. Sarah Goff relict of the late Hiram Goff at Goff's Point, Seneca Lake, Lodi Landing - age 55 years.

Sarah Morris was the second wife of Hiram Goff.

Maria Louisa went by "Louisa", conducted (?) drug store in Pittsburgh, Pa.
This information was taken from the Goff family bible by Mrs. Brown, historian, Lodi, N.Y.

The Ovid Gazette - 16 January 1867 " At the M.E. Parsonage, Ovid, January 16th by Rev.J. Alabaster - Mr. Stephen H. Rhoades was united in marriage to Miss Maria Louisa Goff, both of Lodi.

Rhodes, Stephen Howard - gravestone - 7, February 1839. Died 6, August, 1923. "Captain S. H. Rhodes enlisted 34 Massachusetts Regiment on June 10, 1862; served as private, Corporal land Sergeant. He was promoted to Captain of the 9th USCT; discharged November 26, 1866". He lived to be 84 years old.

Maria Louisa Goff, his wife, born 21, March, 1843 - died 29, April, 1905.

The Interlaken Review - 5, May, 1905 "word was received here on Saturday last, of the death of Mrs. Louisa, wife of Stephen Rhodes, at the home in Pittston, PA.. funeral on Tuesday at West Lodi Cemetery...she was a daughter of Hiram Goff at Lodi Landing---- her age was 62 years. She and her husband spent most of every summer in town..."



Notes for STEPHEN HOWARD RHOADES:
Captain Stephen Howard Rhoades enlisted in the 34th Massachusetts regiment on June 10, 1862 and served as a private, corporal and Sergeant. Research found on tombstones in Old Lodi Cemetery or at the Halsey Cemetery, per Mr. and Mrs. Clayton V. Brown, town and village historians, Lodi, N.Y.

  Notes for EURANIA K. GOFF:
July, 1868 Ovid Gazette News item: At the M.E. Parsonage, in Lodi, July 2, 1868, Coe S. Warne of this village (Ovid) and Miss Eurania K. Goff of Lodi were married by Reverand Nutten.

They are buried at Ovid Union Cemetery, Ovid, Seneca County.
Gravestone: Eurania K. Warne 1847-1912, wife of Coe S. Warne, 1845-1927. There are no other Warnes listed in cemeteries between the lakes, page 145.

In the Interlaken Review on the 16 of February, 1912, "Mrs Coe Warne, who has been sick for some time at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harvey Conley, died on Monday afternoon... leaves a husband and daughter, Mrs. Harvey Conley and family to mourn her, and many other relatives. No indication given as to her parents.



  vi.   PORTER J. GOFF, b. February 25, 1849.

  Notes for PORTER J. GOFF:
Porter lived north of Pittsburgh, Pa. He had a wife and one child. No names. He died at quite a young age. This information taken from the Goff family bible by Mrs. Brown, historian, Lodi, N.Y.



  vii.   SILAS WRIGHT GOFF, b. December 15, 1850; d. February 13, 1870.

  Notes for SILAS WRIGHT GOFF:
Silas died at age 20 ( age 20 years, 1 month and 28 days). Silas was crippled. He lived with Coe and Euronia Goff Warne a few years before his death. From Goff Family Bible - from Mrs Brown, (historian) Lodi, N.Y. Never married.
