In the year 2000 a nationwide Blanton Family DNA Analysis Project was began by Facilitator/Coordinator Jenelle Blanton Wilcox of Bakersfield, California assisted by Bob Stafford, Co-cordinator, of Chicago, Illinois; also assisted by Debbie Blanton McCoy, Co-cordinator, of Kilgore, Texas. Over a period of 5 years a total of 42 direct male descendants of the Blanton family were tested through Relative Genetics, a laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah. The DNA Donors were not acquainted with one another and their ages varied. Results of the DNA testing proved two distinct and separate Blanton bloodlines, contrary to the belief among many Blanton descendants that all descendants of the Blanton surname were of a single family.
