My family of MORRISON's came from Scotland and, though I have not been able to advance the tree beyond my 3 times great grandfather I have not stopped my research. In fact, I have carried on from where my Aunt finished and have advanced other branches of my family tree. The TILLEY/TILLY tree seemed far more complicated than the MORRISON tree due, souly to the fact that I had little information to go on but, low and behold just asking a few varied questions within my family has given me more information than I expected. I now have 5 generations of the TILLEY family and have found that the name was changed for some abscure reason that I have yet to uncover. The 2 versions TILLEY & TILLY are still being used by close members of my family and I often wonder what lies behind the reason for the name change. There is little or no doubt that it could have been a census taker that spelled the name incorrectly but I think there is more to it than that and I will take great pleasure in looking into the past and putting to rest the rumours that have circulated around the family. My advice to anyone starting family tree research is that one should not presume anything. Always look deeper into thing, be critical of information that you come across until you can prove they are relevent to your family. If by some chance the information you gather can not be proved then enter it by all means but also include the fact it has not been proved. That way anyone reading the information will not be as mis-lead as we were, and avoids one being sent on a false trail.
