Genealogy is definitely a labor of love. Love for our immediate families, our deceased ancestors and our posterity yet to come.
My gift to all these shall be the ties I bind. I appreciated all the help I have received to this point. I am also most grateful for any information anyone chooses to share.
The primary surnames in my family are Willson, Cosner (Kastner), Kidd and Murphy.
The Willson's were owners of a lumber company on the East Coast. A falling out of sorts left one brother, Ray out of the business and on his own in West Virginia. I am searching for any information regarding Ray VanVoorhis Willson prior to his marriage to Russie Taylor. I would like to know his parents siblings etc.
The Cosners (Kastner), also from West Virginia have been traced back to Germany in the late 1680's. I would like to thank Sandy Cosner Norton for her help on that line. I would be happy to add any out-shoots of this or any tree.
I have traced the Kidd family back to James H. Kidd in South Carolina 1818. I am aware that I may have an error in linking the first and second generations as I am relying on IGI info I recieved off the internet. Much of my research is the direct result of a typed family history written by William Ogden Kidd, my mothers first cousin once removed. As a result much of the information is not directly tied to my branch of the tree. The Kidd's were a bit nomadic. It seems they moved from South Carolina to Oklahoma, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas (where much of the direct family remain) and finally California where my grandfather LT Kidd brought his family.
The Murphy's are some what of a mystery. I believe my Great Grandfather William Carroll Murphy was from Farmersville Texas as was my grandmother. William institutionalized his first wife Ida Holly. William and Ida had two children. William remarried Flossy Morgan and to them were born seven more children. Sometime between 1943 and 1945 the family moved to Windsor California. I would like to thank Curt Murphy for his contributions on this line. I am in possession of a hand written note from my grandmother stating that Audie Murphy (also of Farmersville Texas) was her cousin; unfortunately, I do not seem to find anything on William's family or Audie's family to bring my research together.
I am also now searching my husbands genealogy which is quite sketchy to say the least. (no pun intended) It is thought the Leist family came to California from Mannheim Germany in the 1800's. The first name I have is four generations back, Herman Leist. I know Hermans fist wifes given name was Marie but her surname is unknown. It is thought she married a man named Collins. After which time the family refered to her as Aunt Maury. I actually think that was Marie with a German or Hungarian twist.
Herman's second wife Marie Seemer is just as much a mystery. The Seemer's came from New York to California in the early 1900's. When the first immigrants arrived from Hungary the surname was changed from Szemere to Seemer. The first generation I have been able to trace is Charles Szemere and Bernadette Lizolt.
My husbands mothers maiden name was Ballain. The Ballains came from France at an unknown time. Beverly Ballain moved to California from Iowa as a young girl. Her mother was Christine Baker and her father Alva Ballain. Both parents passed at an early age not much else is known.

Happy Hunting

Julie
