March 29, Saturday, nice day, but cool. Mary and I stayed in the store today while papa went to Rosedale after a load of goods. Sylvia and Harley are going to stay with us again to-night. Cleo and Orlis were down awhile to-day. Mother hasn’t come home yet. Mary and I went down to Mr. Barton’s this evening and went to Rosedale with Eva to the pie supper. Of course Oscar came back with her and Ofa came with me. They all three came clear home with us and stayed a good while.

 

March 30, cool day, Mary went up to uncle Sam Carroll’s with Audrey. Sylvia and papa are in the bed asleep. Harley went on the hill with uncle Billy, I wish some “one” was here. ha! ha! Mr. Reeder came over to-day. Mother came home this evening. Mary and I went down to Clarence’s this evening and went on down to Mr. Dobbins. We thought there was going to be preaching at the school house but there wasn’t.

 

March 31, Mon. Snowing this morning. I am staying at the store to-day Mary and papa went to Gip this morning to take the eggs off. Lettie was up a little while this morning. Uncle Billy is here now.

 

April 1, Tuesday, cold day. I am at the store again to-day.

 

April 2, Wednesday, I stayed at the store again to-day.

 

April 3, Thursday, nice day, I was at home this fore noon, stayed at the store in the afternoon. Harley and Sylvia came down a while to-night. Eva, Berlin and Glen, and Howard and Ofa were also here to-night. They come up after some currants and strawberry plants.

 

April 4, Friday, rained some to-day. I stayed in the store part of the day.

 

April 5, Saturday, cloudy day, Eva Miller came up to our house and Mary and I and her went to Mill Fork to a peanut social. Oscar came back with her. Ofa Barton went home with Una Downey. I don’t know who Howard went with, Lulu Wright, his girl was with another fellow. I don’t know which one went with her. We took boxes. Vessie Minney got Eva’s box. Oscar Dobbins got Mary’s box, and a little boy got my box. I don’t know what his name was. Eva stayed all night at our house. We slept in the back room.

 

April 6, Sunday, lovely day. Eva went home this morning before breakfast. Sylvia and Harley went over to Mr. Reeder’s yesterday evening., Cleo Reip was down a while yesterday evening. Leroy Miller and Stella Rider are going to be married to-day at Timothy Knob Church. I wish them joy. Oh, how I wish B.H.D. was here. I wouldn’t be lonely then. It’s rather lonesome to-day but maybe it won’t always be so.

 

April 7, Monday, nice day. I stayed at the store a while to-day while Mary and papa went to Tanner after a load of hay. Mrs. Barton and Glen were at the store to-day. Mother is making soap. Oh, yes, Howard Barton was here for supper yesterday evening.

 

April 8, Tuesday, rained some to-day. Sylvia, aunt Martha, and uncle Billy were all here to-day. Uncle Billy is making palings for us. He and I and Mary sealed the upper bedroom overhead to-day and Mary and I papered it and I scrubbed the floor. My, but I am tired to-night!

 

April 9, Wed. nice day. Sylvia was here to-day. Mary and I papered the sitting room to-day and I scrubbed the floor. Also the floor of the lower bedroom, and cleaned up everything. Howard Barton and Oscar Dobbins, and Nora Dobbins and Eva Miller were here a while to-night. Or rather Howard and Oscar were here. Eva and Nora went on up to the store and when they came back, they came in but they didn’t sit down. Ofa Barton was here a few minutes this morning, him and Harley.

 

April 10, Thursday, nice day, rained a little bit though. Mary and I papered the kitchen to-day, well, Mother helped us a little bit. Mother finished her soap and washed to-day. Sylvia was down here a while to-day. Uncle Billy was here two or three times. He is here almost every day, so I may fail to mention him some times. Mary is in bed.  Mother is listening on the phone. Papa isn’t very well. I think the people around here are having a good bit of trouble with the fire in their clearing. Well, I will quit writing in this book and write a letter to my best cousin, Raymond Conley.

 

April 11, Friday, rained a little bit this morning. I cleaned the cupboard and the kitchen doors and scrubbed the kitchen and washed the windows to-day. Mother went down to Mr. Dobbins after some molasses to-day. Mary and I went up to Aunt Martha’s this evening a little while.

 

Saturday, April 12, nice day. Mary and Mother went to Rosedale. I was at the store a little while to-day. Mrs. Mag Cottrill and little baby, Archie, and her other son Leslie were at our house a little while to-day. Also Oscar Dobbins. I ate dinner at Aunt Martha’s to-day, and went on over to Lilly’s. Sylvia and Harley got them a telephone box. They bought it of uncle Charley Riddle for ten $. Oscar Dobbins put it up for them to-day. Their ring is four shorts.

 

April 13, Sunday. Nice day, but cold. Bid and Ethel Sands and their little daughter, Herma, age three yr. in Feb. past. came over to Lilly’s to-day. I came home this morning. They had meeting on Tanner to-day. Mr. Riddle preached. Sylvia was down home to-day. uncle Billy was there a little while also. Mary went down to Clarence’s,  Her and Audra took a buggy ride to-day; went clear over to Rosedale and back. Papa went down to Mr. Dobbins for dinner then came up to Clarence’s. Mother went down to Mr. Dobbin’s this afternoon. I had the headache awfully bad to-day.

 

April 14, Monday, cloudy cold morning. rained a little bit. I am at the store. Mary and papa went to Rosedale to take over some potatoes. Mother was up here awhile ago, and went out in the cherry orchard and picked a mess of greens. I am so glad, because I like them so well. The greens were fine. Mother and I went down to Mr. Dobbins a little while to-night, to take Siller down a pair of canvas slippers. price $1.75.

 

Tuesday, April 15, rather warm. I stayed at the store to-day. Father plowed the potato patch and him and Mary and mother planted some potatoes. papa also furrowed the garden. We had company to-night. They were; Howard and Ofa Barton, Eva Miller, Oscar Dobbins and Lettie and Ora Hewitt. Eva, Lettie and I went up to Aunt Martha’s a little while to see if Harley and Sylvia would come down a while. But they were too tired they said. We had a good time to-night. At least I enjoyed myself.

 

April 16, Wednesday, rainy day. I was at the store helping papa most of the day. Mr. Levi Keener, the Sutton drummer was here to-day. I have an awfully sore thumb.

 

April 17, Thursday, dark, cloudy cold, morning. I am at the store. Mother is going to wash to-day. Papa started to Frametown this morning with a load of eggs.

 

April 18, cool day, I stayed at the store again to-day. Papa got home from Frametown to-day about 3 o’clock. Mother came up to the store. Sylvia was here a while. She went to Mr. Reeder’s to-night. I certainly am glad papa got home so soon. Mrs. Barton and Lettie and Ora Hewitt, Mr. Reeder, and Mother were all at the store at the same time yesterday. We certainly had some fun. Lettie went home with Mrs. Barton and stayed all night. Howard took Mr. Barton and Eva up to Sutton to Mr. Charley Barton’s. They all have the flu except him.

 

April 19, Saturday, nice day, Oh, I forgot to say that it hailed Thursday. My “finger” thumb is awfully sore. I guess it is a felon of some kind. I know it is awfully painful at least. I picked a mess of greens today. I stopped at Cleo’s a few min. as I came home. Mary rode Jumbo over to Tanner to bring Lilly and the children home. Uncle Billy went around from Leroy’s mill to help her also. Birt came over with them. Then he went back home to take care of every thing. Harley and Sylvia came home this evening. Harley went over to stay all night with Birt and Sylvia stayed all night at home. Her and I slept together in the lower bedroom.

 

April 20, Easter Sunday, Well how many eggs did you eat? I ate 3. Birt and Harley came over to-day. Uncle Billy and Aunt Martha came down for dinner also. Of course father was here. So you see we were all at home once more. “Sunday night” Well, our family is rather small to-night. Just four of us. father, Mother, Mary and I.

April 21, Nice day, I was at the store a little to-day. I got a letter from Bayard to-day. Clarence came up and took Nigger down to work. Uncle Billy and Major Stover had a horse trade to-day. uncle Billy traded Daisy for a black mare and colt. Mare’s name is Dove, colt’s Bob I believe, won’t be sure. Uncle Billy gave $35.00 to boot and has to pay $7.00 insurance. Howard Barton and Raymond Perkins also had a trade to-day. Howard traded his horses to Raymond for his mule team. is to give a hundred dollars to boot they say. Sylvia was down awhile this evening.

 

April 22, Tuesday, Nice morning. My thumb is some better. Mother washed to-day. I was Up at uncle Billy’s for dinner. Sylvia came home with me. They began working the roads on the ridge yesterday. I was at the store a few min. to-day. It rained a little bit this evening. It is turning cold now. Well guess I will quit writing for this time.

 

April 23, Wednesday. Nice day, My thumb is still better. We didn’t do much of anything to-day.

 

April 24, Thursday. cold day, Mary and I went over to Mr. Workmans to-day,  also stopped a few min. at Charley Workman’s, also at Okey Roger’s. We had a nice time.  We had lettuce for dinner.

 

April 25, Friday, Nice day.

 

April 26, Saturday, Nice day, but cold. Gentle, uncle Billy’s cow, had a nice heifer calf this morning. Mother and Mary went up to Aunt Martha’s to-night, to stay a little while. I got my hat and skirt this week.

 

April 27, Sunday, Nice day,  frosty morning,  Sylvia and Harley came down early this morning. Sylvia is sick. Mary and I went over to Tanner to Sunday school this morning. We had a real nice time. We stopped a few min. at Mr. Boone’s and went down with the girls. When we got home Mrs. Reeder, Ray, and Mrs. Martha Hewitt were here. The Doctor Roberts is here now. Papa went down the run. Sylvia gave birth to a fine little black headed baby girl this evening about 20 min. after four o’clock. Dr. Roberts waited on her. Mr. Reeder was here for supper, also Mrs. Reeder, Ray, and Mrs. Hewitt. Howard Barton stopped a few min. this evening. The baby weighs 8 1/4 lb.

 

April 28, Mon. rainy day. Mrs. Barton and Glen were here a while to-day. I went up to

the store with Mrs. Barton. Missouri Bishop and Nathan Cottrill were married Saturday or Sun., I am not sure which. Mary went up and helped Aunt Martha cook. Birt and Howard and Ofa Barton were plowing for Uncle Billy to-day.  The baby is real cute.

 

April 29, Tuesday, cloudy, They serenaded Missouri and Nathan last night. Jessie Dobbins was here a little while this morning. Mrs. Icie Reeder was here to-day, stayed all day.  Cleo Reip and Orlis were here a while this afternoon. of course Aunt Martha and uncle Billy were here to-day. Harley helped his father build fence to-day. Well I must quit writing in this book and write a letter to my dear. ha! ha!

 

April 30, Wednesday, rainy day, Mr. Reeder was here to-day, also Audra Conley. I am not feeling very well.

                                     

May 1, Thurs. rainy day. Harley dug some post holes around the yard yesterday evening and to-day, also split some posts. Clarence Conley was here to-day to get Nigger to work. Mrs. Hewitt and Mrs. Reeder were here awhile this evening. Mrs. Hewitt washed and dressed the baby. The baby is growing awfully nice. It certainly is a fine little girl. I call her Topsy to tease Harley and Sylvia. ha.


May 2, Friday, cloudy most of the day. Mother washed again to-day. Uncle Billy nailed up some palings for us to-day and made a gate. He was here for dinner. I got dinner. Mrs. Barton and Berlin were here awhile to-day. I went up to the store with her. Siller and her little daughter Vera Inez, and Jessie Dobbins were here awhile to-day. aunt Martha is here now. I am glad we are getting our palings up. I wish I would get some mail this week.

 

May 3, Sat. Nice day. Oh, I forgot to say, that Mrs. Lillie Wright and her little girl,  Thelma, were here last night. They went home this morning. Eva Miller, and Ofa Barton and Oscar Dobbins were here last night also. I got a letter from my cousin Arden Clark yesterday evening. He wants me to be his girl. Of course I will be his girl. I stayed at the store while papa went to Rosedale to-day.      I also went up to the store again and took papa his supper. The baby is growing nice. I think they are going to call her Wanda. I don’t like the name very well. Rained some to-night.

           

May 4, nice day. Mary and I went to Tanner to Sunday school this morning.  We went to Mr. Boone’s for dinner. We had a nice time. Mrs. Jennie Bell Nicholas and her little            son Orville, were here awhile to-day. Clarence Conley, and his wife, Audra, and their children, Helen and Lorna, were here this evening awhile. Mr. Reeder was here awhile also. Father is here to-night.

 

May 6, Monday, Nice day, most all day. sprinkled rain. Clarence was here a while to-day. Uncle Billy and aunt Martha were here also. Eva Miller was here. I went up to the store with her. I picked a mess of greens to-day. I planted some beet seeds to-day.

 

May 6, Tuesday. Nice morning, rained some since noon. Mother washed to-day. My finger, or rather, thumb is getting better. I certainly am glad. We sent for the mail by Howard to-day.  I hope I will get some mail. I love to get letters and cards. I am tired. I have been working hard. Mrs. Nicholas and Orpha were here awhile to-day, also Clarence Conley. He came up after Jumbo.

 

May 6, Tuesday, cloudy, most all day, rained some. We washed to-day. We had a mess of lettuce for supper. It was the first mess we have had this year. Clarence was here a little while today. Also Eva Miller. Aunt Martha and Uncle Billy were here. Ofa Barton stopped a little while this evening. I went up to the store with Eva. I stuck brush to the peas today, and Mary and I made the cucumber hills.

 

May 7, Wednesday. rainy day. Mr. Reeder was here a while to-day. A swarm of bees settled in one of our apple trees close to the house. I don’t know where they came from.    Uncle Billy came down and hived them. Sylvia and baby are getting along good. Sylvia gets up and sits by the fire awhile now. papa is at home to-night.

 

May 8, Thursday, cloudy morning sprinkled rain. Mary and I are at the store. Papa started to Frametown this morning with 7 cases of eggs. I will quit writing in my little book of blues and write a letter to my cousin Raymond Conley. I got a letter from Ray to-day. He is still in France. His address is B. H. 214, apo 939, Saveney, France. Eva Miller was at our house awhile to-day. Sylvia is much better.

           

May 9, Friday, rainy day. Mary and I are at the store again.            Papa hasn’t come home yet. He is certainly having a rainy time. I hope he will come home to-day. Mr. Reeder was here awhile to-day. father got home a little after four, or a little till four,  I don’t remember which.

 

May 10, Saturday, cloudy day, rained some. Birt was over to-day and I went home with him. I was at aunt Martha’s a few min.

 

May 11, Sunday, cloudy day, Lilly, Birt, Garnet, Oral and I went down to Sunday school. Mr. Riddle preached. After Sunday school, Mary rode over from home and we went home together. Aunt Martha and Uncle Billy were here to-day. Mary and I went down to Clarence’s a little while this afternoon. Clarence was at our house a while. They are having singing school on Mill Fork now. It began last Saturday night. I would like to go over one time at least.

 

May 12, Monday, cloudy morning. I am at the store. papa is cutting sprouts in the cherry orchard. Uncle Billy was here to-day.

 

May 13, Tuesday, I was at the store awhile to-day. Audrey and children were up here awhile to-day. Papa cut some sprouts to-day. Mary went to Rosedale. I got a letter and a card from Raymond to-day. He is still at Savenay, France.

 

May 14, Wednesday, rainy day. Mrs. Vernetta Frame and little son, Clifford, were here to-day. Mary went to Rosedale again to-day. I stayed at the store awhile to-day, while father and Harley sawed down a tree to make palings out of. Aunt Martha and Uncle Billy were down a little while to-day. We have 33 little chickens now. Have one hen set on guinea eggs.

 

May 15, Thursday, nice day, I am at the store to-day. Mary and papa finished cutting sprouts to-day. I am going home now. Will come again. Mrs. Dobbins was at our house a little while to-day. Howard Barton and Eva. Miller were at our house awhile to-night. We had all gone to bed, but Harley and I got up.

 

May 16, Friday, some cloudy,  I am at the store. Papa is plowing the corn field. Harley is working for Dr. Roberts to-day. I wish I would get two or three letters this week. Mrs. Barton and Glen Miller were at our house awhile to-day.

 

May 17, Saturday, rainy day, Birt was here for dinner to-day. Mother went home with him. Uncle Billy was here to-day. Eva, Ofa, Howard and Oscar went to Mill Fork to singing to-night.

 

May 18, Sunday, nice day. Clarence has sold his buggy to John Frame for $60.00. He came after it to-day. Of course he and Clarence were at our house as the buggy was at our home. Aunt Martha and Uncle Billy were here to-day. Wanda Leone Reeder, my sister Sylvia’s baby, is three weeks old to-day. She is certainly sweet. She weighs 11 1/4 lb.. Pretty good, isn’t it? We had a good bit of company for a little while. They were Mr. Dock Mullins and his wife Anna, and their little son and daughter, Stella, and Lee. Anna’s sister, Lizzie Harless and her husband Albert, and their little daughter Ethel. They didn’t stay very long. Mother came home this evening. I have been a little blue to-day, as I had to stay at home all day. Howard Simmons has returned home from France. I would love to see him. Bill Adams also has returned home from France. Harley plays the violin quite often for us. I love to hear him play. He has Birt’s violin.

 

May 19, Monday, nice day, I am at the store. Papa is plowing. We have had a good bit of custom to-day. Papa sold three cases of eggs to Major Stover today at .30 per doz..  We are paying .30 now. I guess Sylvia and Harley are going up home to-day. Uncle Billy is moving Sylvia’s things away. I saw Bill Adams pass the store to-day. I was up Aunt Martha’s a little while this evening. It is a little bit lonesome without Sylvia, Harley and the baby.

 

May 20, Tuesday, rainy day, rained awfully hard. It rained some yesterday evening also. I hemmed my thin black skirt to-day. I took papa’s breakfast up to him. Mother or I will take his supper. Mother is splitting stove wood. Clarence was up here a little while. Harley was down a few min. this morning. I wrote a letter to Raymond to-day. I set a hen on 18 guinea eggs to-day. I think I will go over to Lilly’s this evening and help her paper the house to-morrow. Wish I didn’t have to help her. Well, I will have to get to work. so long. Well, I went over to Lilly’s this evening. The kids are sweet as honey, I love them half a bushel, as Garnet says.

 

May 21, Wednesday, rained lawfully hard this evening. Lilly and I got the sitting room papered and the bedroom nearly done. We had squirrel for supper. I came home this evening, got home about eight o’clock. got pretty wet. Gay and Gertrude were up at Lilly’s a while this evening. Dalton Reip has closed the road up that went up through his land joining us. He closed it to-day. I don’t think the people like it very well. I hope we will get a public road soon.

 

May 22, Thursday, rainy day, I stayed in the store most of the day while papa fixed the fence. Mother washed today, she had an awfully large washing. Mary took papa’s supper up to him this evening. Mr. Barton was here a few min. this morning.

 

May 23, Friday, cloudy day, sprinkled rain a little bit about noon or a little after. rained pretty hard this morning early. I went to Rosedale this morning and took some flower plants over and set out on my sister Murl’s grave. Lela Upton went up with me. Eva Miller sent me up some white rose sprouts and some pansy plants and some other kind I don’t know what they were.  She sent them by Ofa. She was up here awhile this morning. I got a letter from Arden and Bayard to-day. I sure was glad to get them. Mother is up at aunt Martha’s now. There is no one here at home but Mary and I. It is eight o’clock now. This is all for to-day.

 

May 24, Saturday, cloudy morning. Mary and I rode the mules over to Lynn Camp to-day. Lynn Camp is over on the Left-Hand. The name of the post office over there is Gipp. We took the mules to Jesse Griffith for him to shoe them. We were at Hollie Lowery’s store, I bought a set of baby dishes for Sylvia’s baby, Wanda Leone. They cost .50. There a cup with the word baby in gold letters, also a saucer and a plate. The plate has the word baby on it also. Mary and I ate dinner at Mrs. Lowery’s. We went up too Mr. Sharp’s store all so. It rained awfully hard this evening. We got pretty wet. We went down Antony, up Mill Fork and then on Left-Hand you know. We came back by Rosedale. I was up at aunt Martha’s a little while this evening. Mother had us a good supper.

 

May 25, Sunday, nice day. Mr. and Mrs. Reeder and Ray were over at aunt Martha’s to-day. They stopped at our house awhile as they went home. Mother was up there also. Father went down to Clarence’s this evening,  Clarence, Audra and children were here this evening. They stayed till after supper. Clarence was sick and didn’t eat anything but a dish of oats. Audra, Mary and I and the children went up to aunt Martha’s a little while this evening. papa stayed at home to-night.

 

May 26, Monday. Nice day, I stayed at the store awhile, papa hauled the paling cuts down to the house. Then he finished plowing the corn field. Mrs. Barton and Berlin were up a while to-day. They came to the store and I think they stopped at the house.

 

May 27, Tuesday, nice day, awfully hot. I stayed at the store again to-day, papa furrowed the corn ground, and Clarence planted it. Mr. Keener, the Sutton drummer, was here to-day. I for got to say, Mother washed yesterday. I was up at Uncle Billy’s a little while yesterday evening. Little Wanda Leone weighed 11 ¾ lb. Saturday evening.

 

May 28, Wednesday, nice day, Oh, I forgot two say that Mrs. Dobbins was at our house a while this morning. I am at the store again this morning. Papa is hoeing potatoes. Uncle Billy is making palings for us to-day. To-day is Mary’s birthday. She is 17 yrs. old. We are going to have a birthday party for her to-night. I hope that all will come that we invited. well, there wasn’t many here that we invited. I don’t know why they didn’t come. I enjoyed myself very well though. I don’t know how about the rest. I will write the names of the ones that were here in a little bit. Howard and Ofa Barton and Eva Miller, Oscar Dobbins, Herbert, Harrison and Will Frymyer, Bill Adams, and Dewey Mace, and another Mace boy, last two named were not invited. Mary got eight presents. Oh, I forgot to say that Sylvia, Harley and the baby were down and stayed a little while. They all left about twelve or a little after.

 

May 29, Thursday, nice day, I am at the store this morning. Father finished hoeing the potatoes this morning. He is lying on his bed on the counter asleep now. He said he was going to plant the corn in the potato

patch after while. I wrote a letter to Arden and Bayard a little while ago. I got a card from Raymond to-day. he is still in France. We want to go to Rosedale to-morrow. Don’t know whether we will get to go or not. Hope so. Mrs. Barton and Berlin were at our house to-day. Also Bessie and Edna Lambert.

 

May 30, Friday Nice day, Well, Mary and I went down to Mrs. Barton’s and went over to Rosedale with Eva. Mary and I ate dinner at Mr. Emery Rollison’s. We were in at Mr. Adam’s also. We, Mary, Eva and I went up to Jim Frymyer’s to see their twin boys. They both died. Only lived a little while. They were born last night. They are awfully small. The Juniors marched to-day and they had some speeches and recitations in the church, then we went up to the graveyard. I enjoyed myself fine to-day, but am awfully tired.

 

May 31, Saturday, nice day awfully warm. Mrs. George Miller died this morning about four o’clock. She will be buried to-morrow some time. Mary went out to Mr. Perkins to Mill. I was up at uncle Billy’s a little while.

 

June 1, Sunday, nice day, very warm. Mother, father, Mary and I were up at aunt Martha’s for dinner. Audra, Clarence, Lorna and Helen were there also. Lilly, Birt, Garnet, and Orel were also there. So you see we had a family reunion. I enjoyed myself fine. All of us except Papa and aunt Martha and uncle Billy went to the funeral in the afternoon. Mrs. Miller was buried about six or half past six o’clock this evening. They buried her on the hill above Leroy Miller’s. There was a large crowd. My, oh,  but I was tired when I got home. We ate a cold supper.

 

June 2, Monday, nice day very hot.  Mary and I are at the store. papa started to Frametown this morning.  He had four cases of eggs.  We got in several eggs this morning.  I am going to write my cousin Raymond a letter in a little while.  So by, by. Mrs. Barton, Glen and Nora Dobbins were at our house a little while to-day.

 

June 3, Tuesday, nice morning.  I am at the store again to-day. am looking for father home to-day. papa got home about three o'clock or a little after.

 

June 4, Wednesday, nice hot day.  We washed to-day.  I was at aunt Martha's a few min. to-day.

 

June 5, Thursday, nice day.  I ironed.  We set out some tomato plants this evening. Oh, I forgot to say that mother went to Rosedale yesterday afternoon and took Siller Dobbins a bushel of potatoes. got $1.50 per bu.  Also took her some dried apples.  Mrs. Barton and Glen came up to-day.  I went up to the store with her.  Mary and I went down there this evening to borrow some books to read.  Howard came above Clarence's with us.  Ofa wasn't there.  He had went to Rosedale. So you see I didn't get to see him, ha! ha'  Ah, well, I don't care any way.

 

June 6, Friday, nice day, I didn't do anything in particular to-day, Sylvia and Wanda Leone were here nearly all day.  Sylvia was sewing. Mary is up at her house now.  Sylvia doesn't seem to be very well.  Baby wasn't very well to-day either.  Mother is reading.  I guess I will have to take father's supper up to him. uncle Billy was at Rosedale to-day.  He brought me a card from Raymond and a letter from Lettie Hewitt.

 

June 7, Saturday, Nice day. rained a good shower to-night.  White face, our cow, has a nice little calf. came this morning.  We have five little guineas.

 

June 6, Sunday, nice day, but it was cloudy this morning.  Mary and I went over to Tanner to Sunday school.  We stopped at Mr. Boone's a few min. to take Losie's Books home.  We went home with Tressie Nicholas for dinner.  Mother was there for dinner also.  We all went over to Mr. Lambert's a little while.  Mrs. Lambert gave birth to a fine 9 lb. girl this morning.  We had all the cherries we could eat at Mr. Nicholas' There were lots of people there to get a mess of cherries.  Sylvia and Harley and Baby were at Mr. Lambert's also. and went an over to Mr. Nicholas'. we stopped at uncle Billy's as we came home.  Oscar Dobbins was here a little while this evening.

 

June 9, Monday, nice day.  Mary and I papered the kitchen for aunt Martha to-day. got done about three o'clock.  I took papa's supper up to him.

 

June 10, Tuesday, nice day, Mother and I washed this morning.  I forgot to say that Mrs.            Minney was here a while Saturday.  They had a children's day at Timothy Knob last Sunday. I am going to write a letter to Lettie now.

 

June 11, Wednesday, nice day. Oh, I forgot to say that I went to Rosedale last evening. I rode Jumbo. I stopped at Mrs. Frymyer's and got some handover plants, I also stopped at Bina Perkins to see her baby.  It is real pretty.  It rained a hard shower this evening.

 

June 12, Tues.  Nice day, Mary, Mother and I hoed corn to-day, I didn't hoe all the time as I had to stay in the store while papa plowed the corn.  I forgot to say that we hoed corn yesterday also.  It rained another shower this evening.  We set out a lot of cabbage plants this evening.

 

June 13, Friday, nice day. We hoed corn again to-day 'till noon.  We got done hoeing.  We gathered about a gal. of cherries off of our cherry trees.  They are Montmorencys.  I don't know whether that big word is spelled right or not. and don't care much.  I got a letter From Arden to-day. Says he is coming out the 15th or 16th.  Hope he does.  There is going to be preaching at our school house to-night.  Mr. John Simmons preaches.  I think we will go.  Sylvia went over to Mr. Reeder's this afternoon.  Mother went over with her to help carry Wanda.

 

June 14, Saturday, cloudy morning.  Mother, Mary, and I went over to Mrs. Reeder’s to-day.  There were lots of people there.  I will write the names after while.  You see this is the day we were to take in the quilt squares we have pieced for Mrs. Reeder, and she got for us a fine dinner, chicken, cake, pie, and lots of other good things.  We certainly had a fine time.  I went down home with Lettie Hewitt and Mrs. Hewitt a few min. this morning.  Arthur Criner was there.  Well, I will write those names now. Mrs. Hewitt and her daughters Lettie, Ora, Odessa, Wanda, and Opal.  Mrs. Esther McCune, and her son and daughter, Russell and Hilda, Mina, Myrtle and Nellie Workman, also Mr. Semore Workman, their father.  Mrs. Nan Bennett and her daughter Myrtle.  Mrs. Icie Reeder and her daughter Hope. and of course Sylvia, Harley and Baby were there, besides us.  Lettie, and Ora, and Odessa Hewitt came home with us to stay all night.  We were all going to Tanner to meeting, but it rained and stormed so hard that we didn't get to go.  Ofa, and Howard Barton and Oscar Dobbins were at our house to-night.  I enjoyed myself fine.  I got two letters from Raymond to-day, got his picture in one of them.

 

June 15, Sunday, cloudy morning.  The girls went home this morning.  Mary and I went over to Mrs. Hewitt's this afternoon.  Sylvia and Harley were at Mrs. Hewitt's for dinner.  I went on to Mill Fork to Sunday school.  Mary stayed at Mr. Hewitt's till I came back.  I stopped at Mr. Johnson Wright's a little while, also stopped at Mrs. Goldie Bennet's a little while.  Clarence and Audra and children were at our house a while this eve.  I guess Eva, Nora, Jessie, Oscar and Ofa went to meeting on Tanner to-night.  Ofa was with Jessie.

 

June 16, Monday, cloudy most of the day.  I ironed some this morning, and put the curtains up, Then Mother and I washed this afternoon and then scrubbed, Mother did most of the scrubbing.  I took father's supper up to him.  I have been looking for Arden all day, but he hasn't come yet.  Nora Dobbins and Harrison Frymyer were here a little while this morning.  I feel awfully bad to-day.

 

June 17, Tuesday, cloudy morn.  I feel a trifle better this morning.  Mother is up at uncle Billy's working.  Mary took papa's breakfast up to him.  He isn't very well.  When Mary came back she cut some stove wood.  Mrs. Icie Reeder came along a little while ago, and Mary went up to aunt Martha's with her.  I heard on the phone a little while ago that Miss Joda Burns is to be buried at Rosedale to-morrow at ten o'clock.  I want to go if it is so I can.  I hope Arden will be here to go with me.  I am not working very much to-day.

 

June 18, Wednesday, Mary and I went to Rosedale to-day to the funeral.  We stopped at Mr. Rollin's a few min. also at Mrs. Upton's a little while.  I got a letter from Bayard to-day.  Mrs. Barton and Glen were up at the store to-day, also stopped at the house a while.

 

June 19, Thursday, Nice day, I picked the currants to-day, also went on the hill and picked the cherries.  Arden came to-day about one or two o'clock.  He is real nice looking I think.  We went up to aunt Martha's awhile this evening.

 

June 20, Friday, Nice day.  Sylvia and Baby were down here to-day.

 

June 21, Saturday, Mary, Arden and I went over to Lilly's to-day.  It rained to-day.  Arden has his Kodak with him.  He took the children's pictures to-day.

 

June 22, Sunday, nice day.  We were all at aunt Martha's for dinner to-day.  Arden took some pictures for Sylvia and Harley to-day.  He took some pictures of Mary and I also.  Well, I guess I have met my fate.  I have imagined myself in love before, but I never was.  But now I know who I really love.  I will mention no name.

 

June 23, 1919, Monday, nice morning, Well, I am sad to-day, papa started to Frametown after a load of good and Arden went with him.  Mary and I have to stay in the store.  It rained to-night and this afternoon.  Oh, what a miserably long day this has been for me.

 

June 24, 1919, Tuesday, rainy day, Mary and I stayed in the store again to-day.  Papa got in about 3 o'clock to-day.  Eva and Glen were up here awhile to-day.  She came up after butter.

 

June 25, Wed. rainy most of the day.  Mother went down to Clarence's to-day, Mary was up at aunt Martha's this morning.  Harold Reeder was here awhile to-day, Vessie Minney was here awhile this evening.

 

June 26, Thurs. rained again this evening.  I was up at aunt Martha's for dinner to-day.  Mother and Mary came up this afternoon.  I got a letter from "Arden" to-day.  He wrote it while he was at Frametown.

June 27, Friday, Mrs. Minney was here awhile to-day.  Also Mrs. Barton and Glen.  Also Mrs. Ice Reeder and her daughter, Hope.  Sylvia and Baby were here for dinner, her and Mother and Mary went up to the store.  Mrs. Gay Wilson gave birth to a girl baby Thurs., June 26. We had our first mess of green beans to-day.  Mother washed to-day. I don't feel very well to-day, I had the ear ache pretty bad this evening.  Oh, pshaw, my thoughts go wandering, and I can hardly write.  I forgot to write, ha, ha!

June 28, Saturday, cloudy morning.  Mary went to Rosedale to-day, I was up at Sylvia's a little while this morning. uncle Billy and Harley were here a little while this morning.  Aunt Martha is here now.  Mother is going over to Lilly's to-day.

June 29, Sunday, nice day, Father went over to Lilly's this morning.  Sylvia, Harley, and baby, Wanda Leone, were here this afternoon, Aunt Martha and uncle Billy were here this evening.  Oh, heavens, how miserably lonely I was and am to-day.  I wonder if the one I am thinking about is thinking of me.  I sincerely hope so.  They have opened the road through Reip’s place up at the top of the hill now.

June 30, Monday, lonely day, I stayed at the store all day. Papa went to Frametown and Gassaway to-day.  Mother, Mary, Mrs. Barton and Glen came up to the store this afternoon.  I got a letter from Arden to-day.  I went up to aunt Martha's this evening and helped Harley and uncle Billy take some honey.  Mary went with me.

July 1, 1919, Tuesday, lovely summer day, I wrote a letter to Arden this morning.  Birt and uncle Billy went to Rosedale this morning.  I got a letter from Raymond to-day.  Mother went up to aunt Martha’s for dinner.  I am going to write Raymond a letter directly.  I went over to Lilly's to-day.  Mrs. Wesley Perkins and her daughter, Ola, were here this afternoon.  Sylvia and baby were here this afternoon also.  I stopped at Mrs. Gay Wilson's as I went over to Lilly's and saw her new girl baby. We had apple cobbler for supper this evening. It was fine, um, um, ha! ha!

July 2, 19l9, Wed.  Nice day, I came home from Lilly's this morning.  We washed to-day, and I scrubbed the kitchen this afternoon.  There were a whole lot of people at our house awhile last night.  They were, Eva, Howard, Ofa, Oscar, and Lona Miller. Lona and Joe Minney are at our house now.  They came about three o'clock.  We had chicken for supper.  Why            didn't you come and have a bite? ha!  Oscar Dobbins and Howard Barton were at our house awhile to-night. I took father's supper up to him. The people are having a time about the road through our farm and Dalton Reip's. I don't know how it will end.  Sylvia and Harley and Baby were down awhile to-night.

July 3, Thurs. nice day, Mary and I are at the store. Papa and Dalton Reip started to Glenville to see what about the road.  We got up this morning at three o'clock and got started to the store by four.  Joe and Lona are still at our house, or at least they were when we left. one don't know who to trust now days.

July 4, Friday, nice day, I ironed some to-day, also mowed the yard.  Mother went down to Mr. L-L. Frames.

July 5, Saturday nice day, we have company now.  They are four of our first cousins: Nella, Ethel, Frank, and Ralph Conley.  They came in a hack. got here between ten and eleven o'clock.  They live on the Leather Bark of Cedarcreek.  Frank went down to Clarence's for dinner.  Mother, Mary, Ethel, Ralph, Nella, and I went up to aunt Martha's a little while this evening.  Mother went over to Mr. Perkins to-night.  Ralph went up to the store.  Mary, Ethel, Nella and I went down to Clarence's this eve.  Ethel and Nella are going to stay all night down there.  Frank and Ralph will stay with us.  I had to stay at the store till papa took Jumbo to Perkins to get him shod.  Ralph stayed with me. uncle Billy and aunt Martha went over to Birt's this morning.  Vernetta Frame and her little son Clifford were here a little while to-day.

July 6, Sunday, nice morning.  Ralph went down to Clarence's a little while this morning and they all came back with him. father and Frank went up to Sylvia's.  Mr. Barton was up there also.  I will mention all that were here for dinner.  Clarence, Audra, Lorna, Helen, Nella, Ethel and Ralph, besides ourselves.  Sylvia, Harley, baby Wanda Leone, Papa and Frank all came down this afternoon.  Frank and Ralph went home with Clarence to stay all night, and the girls are going to stay here. aunt Martha and uncle Billy came home this evening.  Howard and Ofa Barton, and Oscar Dobbins were here a while to-night.  They stayed till nearly one o'clock.

July 7, Monday, cloudy morning nice day, Well, our company are gone.  Clarence came up with Frank and Ralph this morning.  They started home about ten o'clock.  I was up at aunt Martha’s a little while to-day.  I carried the baby down for Sylvia. her and Mother went on the hill to the store.  They left the baby with us.  I was looking for a letter from Arden Sat. but I didn't get any.  I was awfully disappointed, I hope I will get one or two this week.  I got a card from Raymond the other day, he is coming home.  I expect he is on this side now.  I hope so any way.

July 8, Tuesday, nice day, We washed to-day, and I tied up some tomato plants.  Sylvia came down this afternoon and helped me to make a skirt and waist, or rather she made the skirt.  Mrs. Barton and Glen were here a little while this afternoon.  Also Edna and Bess Lambert.  Mary and I went down to Mr. Barton's a little while this evening.  Okey and Cleo Roger's baby died this morning about three o'clock. It's name is Robert Watson Rogers. Age 1yr. 9 mo. 10 da.  It measured 24 in around its head. A crowd of us young people from Laurel, went to the wake to-night.  We stayed till about one o'clock.  It was about half past one when I got home.  Jessie Dobbins, Howard Barton and Moses Perkins stopped a few min. at our house as they came back. the rest of our crowd included Eva, and Oscar, Ofa and Nora.  There were several people at the wake.  I forgot to say, that it rained a pretty hard shower Sunday evening.

July 9, Wed. some cloudy, rained some this morning, Mother, Mary and Vernetta Frame went to the funeral to-day.  I ironed some and got dinner and did the work.  Vernetta was here for dinner.  Oh, how I wish I would get a letter from Arden to-day, I would so love to see him.  Ah, little book, how I wish I dared to write my most precious thoughts for I dare not tell them to any one.  Mary and Mother have gone to pick berries.

July 10, Thurs.  I went to Rosedale this morning, I didn't get any letter.  Oh, how disappointed I am.  This world is certainly full of sorrow, heartache, and disappointment.  Mother went to pick some huckleberries.  It rained some this morning.

July 11, Fri.  I went with Mrs. Hewitt and Dessie to pick blackberries and huckleberries this morning.  I hoed corn this afternoon.  Clarence plowed corn for us this afternoon.  He brought Helen up with him.

July 12, Warm day, We hoed corn again to-day, Clarence didn't come to help. rained awfully hard to-night, also it stormed hard.  Vessie Minney was here awhile to-night. well, little book, I never was so disappointed and heavy hearted as I am this week, because you see I didn't get any letter from Arden. and the hardest part is, I dare not let on like I care. but oh, heavens, The pain is there just the same.

July 13, Sunday, rainy day, I am going to write a letter to Lettie Smith and see if she will ans. also am going to write to uncle Albert Lawson.  Mother has gone up to uncle Billy's.  There is no one there but, papa, Mary and I. uncle Billy, aunt Martha, Sylvia, and Harley were all here for dinner.  Harrison Frymyer was here a while to-day.  I went home with Harley and Sylvia this afternoon.  Mother and I were at their home for supper this evening. we had chicken for supper. ha' ha! stormy night.

July 14, Monday, rainy day, or rather morning.  I was at the store this morning.  Harley started to Turner, W. Va. to work. went this morning. uncle Billy was at Rosedale to-day.  I was expecting some mail but I didn't get any.  Oh, I wonder what is the matter that Arden doesn't write.  If he only knew how I long for a letter from him he surely would write.  Oh, I wish I knew what is in store for me in the future.  Whether sorrow or happiness.

July 15, Tues. cloudy morning.  I am at the store. Father went over on the Westfork to see about a check.  If I don't get a letter pretty soon I don't know what I shall do.

July 16, Wednesday, cloudy morning, papa went to Rosedale to-day, and oh, joy! he got me three letters. one from, Bayard, one from Mina Workman, and the one I was longing for, a letter from "Arden".  Oh, I was so happy to receive it: How I would love to see my "Darling". rained awfully hard to-night.  Mary and I ate at aunt Martha's.  Sylvia came home with us and sewed some.  She ate supper here.  I carried little Wanda Leone home for her.

July 17, Thursday, cloudy part of the day, I was at the store awhile this morning.  I went down to Mrs. Hewitt's for dinner.  I got some molasses of her, Mrs. Hewitt and Wanda came home with me.  Mrs. Barton and Glen were here awhile to-day. also Vernetta Frame.  I took papa's supper up to him.  Mother is at aunt Martha's and Mary is at Mr. Barton's.  I am going to write a letter to Arden now.

July 18, Friday, Mary and I stayed in the store to-day. papa started to Frametown this morning.  Mother was at the store awhile.

July 19, Saturday, rained some to-day, papa got home to-day about one o'clock or half past.  Mary and I stayed in the store.  Lynn Adams was here a little while to-day.  Well, I am worried.  I sent the letter I wrote to Arden by papa to be put in the office and he forgot to mail it.  Isn't it aggravating?

July 20, Sunday, rained some to-day, Mother went visiting to-day.  Sylvia and baby were here almost all day.  Aunt Martha went down to Clarence's. uncle Billy was here for dinner.  Clarence was here awhile, also Vessie Minney.  I am just a little lonely and wish to see someone very, very much.  I wish I could be with him all the time, for I love him very dearly. aunt Martha was here a while to-day.  Oh, heavens, how I wish I knew for sure what my future is to be.  But, alas!  I know not what is in store for me.

July 21, Monday, I was at the store awhile.  Sylvia and baby and I went over to Lilly's this afternoon.  We walked.  We stopped at Gay Wilson's a little while.  Mrs. Barton and Glen were here awhile to-day.  We had chicken for dinner.  Mary was at aunt Martha's for dinner.  I was there a little while.  Garnet isn’t very well.

July 22, 1919, Tuesday, I don't feel well to-day.  Gay and her four daughters were up here awhile this afternoon.  Orel, and Garnet and little Wanda Leone are sweet.  We, Sylvia and I came home this evening.  I got a letter from Albert Lawson, and she got a letter from aunt Icie Mitchell. Aunt Icie is at Ranger, Texas.  I am anxious to hear from Arden again.  It is strange how love can change one.  Isn't it?  If I don't get a letter this week from Arden, I will be awfully disappointed.  Mrs. Ethel Sands was here awhile to-day.

July 23, Wednesday, hot day.  Mrs. Reeder, Ray, and Icie Reeder were here for dinner, also Sylvia.  I forgot to say, that Mary stayed at Mr. Jim Nicholas' last night.  There was no one at home but Mother and I. I went to Rosedale this evening.  Clarence was here a little while this morning.  I was at aunt Martha's a few min. this morning.  I don't feel very good to-day.

July 24, Thurs. hot day, Mother and I washed to-day.  Mary stayed at aunt Martha's for dinner, Clarence was here a little while.

July 25, Friday, hot day, father and I went over to Gip to-day to get the mules shod.  We ate dinner at Mr. Griffith's.  I was at Mr. Lowery's house also at the store.  Was at Mr. Hardway's store.  Was at Mr. Ethele Sharp's house, also at his store, was at the post office also.  We stopped at Mr. Johnson Wright's a little while.  Mother and Mary stayed in the store.  I was at uncle Billy's a little while.  Audra and Clarence and children were here a while to-day.  I bought me a new waist to-day.

July 26, Saturday, I was at aunt Martha's a little while.  I ironed to-day.  Mrs. Barton and Glen were here a little while also Mr. Reeder.  Mary went over after Lilly and children to-day.  I went to Rosedale this evening.  I was looking for a letter from Arden but I didn't get any.  I was disappointed of course.

July 27, Sunday, hot day, Lilly and children, Sylvia and Baby, aunt Martha, Bid and Ethel Sands and their little girl Herma are all here. dinner is nearly ready.  I will have to go and help some. uncle Billy just now came.

July 28, Mon. hot day.  Oh, yes, I took Lilly and children home an the mules yesterday evening.  I was at Mr. Barton's a little while this evening.  I also stopped at Clarence's a few min. I got a letter from Raymond to-day.  Eva brought the mail for us.  Raymond is at home now.

July 29, Tues. hot day I canned 15 qts. of baked sweet apples, 1 gal. of beets to-day. Eva was up awhile this morning and got a bushel of sweet apples.  Mary took them down on the mule.

July 30, Wednesday, hot day.  Mrs. Hewitt, Wanda, Lettie, Mrs. Reeder and Ray were all here a little while to-day.  Sylvia and baby were here a while also.  Mother and all of those mentioned, except Lettie, went down to Mr. Barton's.  Mary was down there a little while this evening.  I got a letter from Newton Boone to-day.  He wants me to correspond with him.  Of course I will. ha' ha' Mary has gone on the hill to take papa's supper.  I wrote a letter to Ray to-day.

July 31, Thursday, I was an the hill to take papa's breakfast to him. father isn't well to-day.  Lettie and Odessa Hewitt were here awhile this morning.  They came after some apples to cook.  I was at Mr. Barton's a few min. this morning.  Eva brought me a letter from the office and I went after it.  It was from Arden.  I was so glad to get it.  He has bought him another car.  I wrote him a letter to-day. also Lilly Smith. Guess I'd better write Newton Boone one too. ha! ha!  It is raining to-day.  Mother washed. I canned some pickles.  Oh I wish I knew how to decide a certain question.

Aug. 1, Friday.

Aug. 2, Sat. nice day.  Eva was here awhile to-day.  I ironed some to-day.  Raymond Conley came to visit us.  He got to Clarence's this morning.  He came on up to our house this evening, and we all went up to the store to take papa's supper, that is Mary, Raymond and I did.  Sylvia, and baby were here awhile this evening.  Raymond went down to stay with Clarence to-night.  Oh, I forgot to say, Vernetta Frame and her little son were here in the afternoon Friday, Sylvia was here also.  I was at aunt Martha's Friday for dinner.  Mary went down to Audra's, Mother went to uncle Sam Carroll's.

Aug. 3, Sun. nice day, Sylvia was here this morning.  Mary went down to stay with Eva to-day, Mrs. Barton went over to Minnie's.  Sylvia, papa and I went down to Clarence's this afternoon.  Nora and Jessie Dobbins, and Mrs. Ursula Bishop and her two children, Paul and the little baby girl.  I forget her name.  Oh, yes I believe it was, Freda Leone.  John Altop was at Clarence's also.  Raymond and I went down to Mr. Barton's this afternoon.  We played flinch awhile and had a very good time.  Raymond came home with us and we went up to aunt Martha's awhile.  He stayed all night with us.

Aug. 4, Monday, nice day, Raymond went down and helped Clarence haul in his oats. Then him and me went over to Lilly’s this afternoon.  I rode Clarence's mare, Fan, and Raymond rode his own horse.  We rode out to Mr. Perkins' and had Clarence to tack a shoe on Raymond's horse.  I took papa's supper up to him.  Mary, Raymond, and I went to Tanner to meeting to-night.  Mr. Riddle preached.  They are having protracted meeting.  It begin Saturday night.  When we got back from meeting, Lettie Hewitt and Eva Miller were here.  They both had overalls on. We had lots of fun.

Aug. 5. Tuesday, rained a little bit to-day, Clarence came up this morning and Raymond and him went on the hill to the store.  Raymond went home this morning.  Clarence went with him.  He has to attend court at Glenville.  Oh, I hated to see Raymond leave, for he is such a good cousin to me.  Mary isn't a bit well to-day. Lettie and Ora Hewitt stopped here a little while this morning.  Oh, how I hope I will get a letter from Arden this week. but am afraid it can't come that quick.

Aug. 6, Wednesday, Oh, I forgot to say, that I stayed all night with Audra last night.  Audra came home with me and stayed till evening.  Mother went home with here to stay all night.  Mary was to aunt Martha's to-day, Sylvia was down home a little while. rained a good bit to-day.

Aug. 7, Thurs. nice day, Mother and I washed this morning.  Mary is pretty ill to-day.  Mother and I were at aunt Martha's for dinner.  I stayed this afternoon and took care of the baby while Sylvia washed some.  Mrs. Barton was at our house awhile this afternoon.  I went down to Audra's to stay with her to-night.  Aunt Martha came down to my home awhile to-day.

Aug. 8, Friday, nice day.  Mary and I are at the store. father has started to Frametown.  I stayed with Audra again to-night.

Aug. 9, 1919 Sat. nice day. I am at the store, father went to Rosedale.  He got back from Frametown about one o'clock last night.  Yesterday was Bayard Dodrill's birthday.  He is twenty-one yr. old.  I wrote a letter to Bonnie.  Wrote a letter to uncle Albert Lawson yesterday.  Eva, Mary and I were over to Tanner to meeting to-night.  Eva stayed with us to-night.  Mother is down at Audra's.  Sylvia was here to-day.  I carried the baby home for her.

Aug. 10, Sunday, beautiful day, Mary, Eva, and I were at meeting this morning Audra and children came home with Mother.  Eva was here for dinner.  Mary went home with her.  Mother, Audra and children went up to aunt Martha's. father is asleep on the bed.  I wrote a letter to "Arden" a little while ago.  Oh, my "darling" I wish you were here to-day.  They are having pretty good meeting at Tanner.  Lilly, Birt and children were at meeting.  Eva, Mary and I went to meeting again to-night.  They had a real good meeting.  Mary went home with Eva, There is no one here but father and I.

Aug. 11, Monday, I was at the store to-day, father went to Rosedale.  He got me a letter from Raymond.  I ans. it to-day.  Sylvia was here to-day, sewing for the baby.  Audra and children were at our house a little while this morning.  She sent their lambs to Rosedale to sell them this morning.  Harrison Frymyer was here a little while. Of course uncle Billy was here also.

Aug. 12, Tuesday, rainy day.  I was at aunt Martha's a few min.  Sylvia and baby were down home to-day.  Sylvia made my silk dress.  Vernetta Frame was here to-day.  I have to stay with Audra to-night.  Mary went over to stay all night with Lilly.  Birt went up home.  Mother will have to stay at home by herself to-night.

Aug. 13, Wednesday I am at the store. father is hauling wood.  I ironed some this morning but didn't get done.  Mary came home from Lilly's a little while ago.  I want to go to meeting tonight. I hope I will get a letter from someone to-day, Eva said she would call for our mail.  I didn't get a bit of mail.  To bad isn't it?  We went to meeting. They had a good meeting.  Nora Dobbins was converted.  Eva stayed all night with us.  Mother came home as Clarence came home.

Aug. 14, Thurs. rained a little bit to-day.  Sylvia and baby have been here all day.  We are ready to go on our visit.  We will start in the morning if it isn't raining.  Sylvia and baby are here to-night.  Aunt Martha and uncle Billy were here for dinner.  We, or rather Mother, canned four 1/2 gal. peaches to-day, that we got down at Clarence's. father traded old Nigger off yesterday to Charley Bennett for a large bay mule, named Kate.  I took our suitcases up to the store so they would be up there early to-morrow morning.  You see papa is going to take us up to Frametown in the wagon.  I got a letter from Newton to-day. Good by little book till I get back home again.

Aug. 15, Friday, nice day.  We got up at half past one this morning.  We were at the store about half past three or four I think it was.  Harrison and Herbert Frymyer rode in the wagon from the store to their home.  We got to Frametown about eleven o'clock.  We went down on the one "something" train. ha! ha! cost $1.96 per.  I was awfully tired when I got to turner.  Effie and Tressie Reeder were on the train.  Silas and Harley met us at the depot.  Saw Ofa Barton this evening.

Aug. 16, Sat. cloudy, rained this eve. saw Howard Barton to-day, also Ofa. Don't like the looks of Turner very well.  Am having a fine time.

Aug. 17, Sunday, nice most of the day, rained this evening.  Sylvia, Harley and I went down to Falling Rock on the train this evening. We are going to stay at Thurman Wright's to-night.  Saw Bill Adams to-day and talked a good bit with him.  He went down to Clendenin on the train as we went.  Falling Rock is a very nice place.  Thurman and Olive seemed pleased to see us.  They have two children, Garland, and Lena.

Aug. 18, Monday cloudy most all day. rained a little bit.  Well, we went to Charleston to-day. cost .55 each.  Taxi. fare while there .50 each.  We ate dinner at the Manhatain hotel. My dinner cost  .55. I think Charleston is a real nice place.  We went back to Silas' this evening.

Aug. 19, Tuesday nice day, at Silas' all day, except when I went to the store with Tressie.

Aug. 20, Wed. nice day.  We came to Frametown this morning on the 7 o'clock train.  Harley came home with us. papa was at Frametown waiting for us.  My trunk came to-day or yesterday, papa will take it home for me.  We ate dinner at the head of Rock Camp, at a Mr. Carr's.  Dinner was .35 a piece.  The wagon broke down a few mile yon side of Bellfont and father got Mr. Wirt Moyer's wagon to bring us on in.  We got home between nine and ten o'clock. p.m. We certainly were tired.  I got a letter from aunt Icie Mitchell, and a letter from Arden to-day.

Aug. 21, Thurs. cloudy day, rained some.  I stayed at the store while father went to Rosedale.  Clarence was at our house a little while to-day.  Forgot to say, Harley and Sylvia and baby stayed all night at our house Wed. night.  Mother bought half a bu. of peaches of Mrs. Minney for .50. She went after them to-day.  Mr. Reeder and Harold were over to-day after apples.

Aug. 22, cloudy morning.  To-day is Friday.  I am at the store. father started to Frametown this morning.  I want to write some letters to-day.

Aug. 23, Saturday. I am at the store again to-day. father returned from Frametown to-day about three o'clock.  Mother went over to Lilly's this evening. Sylvia and Harley were at our house for supper yesterday.  We had chicken and sweet potatoes.  I forgot to say, that Lona and Joe Minney were married last Thursday, Aug. 21.  I wish them a happy life.  Well, there is no one at home to-night except Mary and I

Aug. 24, Sunday, nice day, we stayed at home all day.  Sylvia and Harley and uncle Billy were here a little while to-day.  Mother came home from Lilly's this evening. uncle Billy and aunt Martha went up to Mr. Jim Nicholas'. Sylvia and Harley went over to Mr. Reeder's.

Aug. 25, Monday. I am at the store again. Papa went over to Gip to get two wagon wheels filled.  Cloudy to-day.

Aug. 26, Tuesday. We worked hard all day.  Clarence and Sylvia were here a little while to-day.

Aug. 27, Wednesday. nice morning, I went over to Lilly's this morning to help her cook for the threshers.  We were at Gay's awhile and went up and saw them thresh. rained a hard shower this evening.

Aug. 28, Thurs. cloudy morning.  We had ten for dinner to-day.  I came home this evening.  We were at Bay's again to-day a little while.  I stopped at Mr. Brady's a little while, also at Leroy Miller's and at aunt Martha's.  So you see I stopped at almost every house I came to. ha.

Aug. 29, Friday, nice day, I am at the store this morning. Father has started to Frametown.

Aug. 30, Saturday, rainy day, papa got back from Frametown a little before dark.  He is going down home to-night.  I haven't heard from Arden for over a week.  Don’t know what is wrong.  Wish he would hurry and write.

Aug. 31, Sunday, cloudy, Mother and aunt Martha went around to Mrs. Minney's to-day, Mary, father and I were at uncle Billy's for dinner, Birt was there also.  Howard and Ofa Barton were here a little while this eve., I forgot to say that they came home from Turner Friday, Ofa was here a little while Friday Eve.  I went down to Mr. Barton's this evening and Eva and I went over to Rosedale to preaching.  Mr. Carder preached.  Mr. Curt Cheneworth was there.  I came back to Mr. Barton's and stayed all night.  Howard walked over with me.  Oh, pshaw!  I don't care a straw for either of them.

Sept. 1, Monday School begins to-day.  Miss Bessie Hashman is the teacher.  Mary has gone to school.  Russell and Raymond Conley came up to visit us to-day.  They came to Clarence's first.  They didn't come on up till nearly dark.  Raymond stayed all night with us, but Russell went down to Clarence's.  We all went up to aunt Martha's a little while to-night.

Sept. 2, Tuesday, Russell went over to see his girl, Marie Knotts to-day.  Raymond and Harley sawed a nice lot of wood for us.  Then Raymond went over to Lilly's.  Him and Birt traded horses.  Raymond went down to Clarence's to-night.

Sept. 3, Wednesday, Well, Raymond went home this morning, or rather he left, don't think he was counting on going home to-night.  I went as far as the store with him.  Oh, how I hated to see him go.  Russell came back from Knotts' about noon.  He ate dinner with us.  He started home this eve.  Vernetta Frame was here a while to-day.  Vessie Minney was here a while to-night.

Sept. 4, Thursday, nice day, I went up to the store and picked off beans to-day, Mother went up to aunt Martha's to make quince butter.

Sept. 5, Friday, nice day.  I am going up to aunt Martha's in a few min.

Sept. 6, Saturday, hot day.  I stayed in the store most of the day. papa and Mary hauled some wood.  Eva Miller was here awhile today.  Harrison Frymyer ate breakfast here this morning.

Sept. 7, Sun. hot day, Lilly, Birt, Oral, and Garnet came over this morning.  They rode.  Lilly rode Ruby, the little mare, Birt traded of Raymond.  Birt rode "Gen" Lewis' horse.  Sylvia, Harley, Wanda Leone, aunt Martha and uncle Billy, and Howard Barton, and Mr. John Cottrill were all here for dinner also.  You see we were all at home once more.  We had some pictures made.  Mr. Cottrill taken them.  I hope they will be good.  Well it is bed time so long.

Sept, 8, Monday Mother and I went up to aunt Martha's and washed to-day.  Audra Clarence, and children were here a while this morn.  We took care of the children while Audra took Gay over some beans.

Sept. 9, Tuesday, I went over to Lilly's this evening.  I stopped at Mr. Boone's a little while as I went over. Also at Mr. Collins'. Birt went to Grantsville and I will stay with Lilly to-night. rained a little this eve.. To-day is Mother's birthday and she is 58 yrs. old.

Sept. 10, Wednesday, I came from Lilly's about noon.  I stopped a few min. at Mr. Brady's as I came home, also a little while at Mr. Boone's.  Mary and I went up to Mr. Jim Nicholas' to a bean stringing to-night.  We had a good time.  I will write the names of those who were there after while.  It rained a good bit to-day.  Howard and Mr. Barton were here awhile this evening.  Well here are the names.  Ofa, Howard, and Eva, Vernetta, Clifford and Vessie. Harrison and Herbert Frymyer. Ernest, Lee, and Charley Lambert.  Losie, Caroline, Okey and Addie Boone. Ethel, Virgie and Ernest Keener.  Flossie Ryder, Jessie Brady.  Curt, Bunt, and Dennie Collins.  Ted Vanhorn.  Floyd and Moses Perkins.  Okey Boone took Virgie Keener home. Herbert took Losie. Ofa, Caroline, Ernest L., Ethel, Clarence, Flossie, Harrison took Mary, and Howard was with me.

Sept. 11, Thurs. cloudy, Eva was here a while this morning.  Mother is at aunt Martha's.  I am trying to iron some.  I haven't recd. a letter from Arden for quite a while.  Oh, heavens, why don't he write.  I would give a whole lot if I only would get a letter right away.

Sept. 12, Friday I went to Rosedale this morning.

Sept. 13, Saturday, cloudy.  I have an awful cold.  Don't feel very well.  Mary has gone to mill.  Mother and Sylvia went out to Icie Reeder's.  I am at home alone.

Sept. 14, Sunday, nice day.  Oh, I forgot to say that I stayed all night with Vernetta Frame last night.  There was a bean shelling at Mr. Collins' Sat. night.  I stopped at Mr. Barton's a little while this morning.  Eva came up with me and her, Mary, and I went to Tanner to meeting.  Ofa was here this morning also Clarence Perkins came home with Eva, Ofa, Clarence and Eva stopped at our house a little while and Mary, Mother and I went down to Mr. Barton's with them.  We stopped at Clarence Conley's as we came home.  We were up at aunt Martha's a little while this evening.

Sept. 15, Monday, Sylvia and I went over to Rosedale this morning.  We went to a Mr. Thompson's and Sylvia bought her a bed.  We ate dinner at Siller Dobbins'. Miss Bessie Hashman, the teacher down here came home with Mary this eve.. We are going to a bean picking up at Cleo Reip's to-night.  We stopped at uncle Billy's as we went up.  There were several there.  Had a very good time.

Sept. 16, Tues.  Mother and I made apple butter to-day.  Mrs. Hewitt and Ora were over to-day.

Sept. 17, Wednesday, Oh, I forgot to say, that Clarence was up a little while yesterday.  Mother is up at aunt Martha's helping make apple butter.  There is going to be a bean shelling at Birt Brady's to-night.  We had an invitation but I am not going.  Am going up to the store in a little while.  Have an awful cold.  Don't feel well.

Sept. 19, Friday cloudy rained a little bit to-day, Mother went over to Mr. Bud Minney's with Mrs. Barton to-day. uncle Albert Lawson and uncle Dow Conley came to Clarence's this evening.  They came in uncle Albert's car. uncle Albert came on up to our house this evening.  Mother came up in the car with him.  It is the first time she ever rode in a car. uncle Albert brought his little four year old daughter, Alberta, as far as uncle Dow's.  I forgot to say, the nineteenth was Lilly and Garnet's birthday.  Lilly was twenty seven years old and Garnet was three.

Sept. 20, Saturday, cloudy rained some to-day. uncle Dow and Clarence came up this morning. uncle Albert and Harley went squirrel hunting.  Mother and uncle Albert were at uncle Billy's for dinner. uncle Albert and uncle Dow are both here this evening.  They will be here to-night.  I went to Rosedale this evening.  I didn't get any mail at all.  I thought I cared a great deal for Arden and have written a lot of foolishness in this book about him, but I find I don't care half as much for him as I thought I did.  So much, for the working of the human heart. ha! ha!

Sept. 21, 1919, Sun.  Mary, Sylvia, and I went down to meeting.  Mr. Rose preached.  There was a pretty large crowd.  Clarence, Audra, and children came home with us for dinner.  Sylvia went down to Mr. Barton's, Eva came up with her this afternoon.  Mr. Reeder and Harley were here for dinner to-day also. aunt Martha was here a little while this evening.  Rained some to-day.  Forgot to say uncle Dow was here for dinner also.  Him and uncle Albert both went down to Clarence's for supper but uncle Albert came back up here, and he and father went up to the store to stay tonight.

Sept. 22, Monday, rainy day. uncle Albert and uncle Dow started home this morning.  They are having a hard old day for traveling.  Mother is churning.  I am going to write a letter to aunt Laura Noffsinger in a little while.  Ofa Barton and Harley Reeder were here a little while to-day.

Sept. 23, Tues. cloudy rained some.  Vessie Minney was here a few min. this morning.

Sept. 24, Wednesday, nice day but cool.  I stayed at the store while father went over to Lynn Camp to get his wagon wheels.

Sept. 25, Thurs. lovely day.  I am at the store. father has started to Frametown.  I don't feel very well to-day.  I would like to get some mail.  I haven't recd. any mail for quite a while.

Sept. 26, Friday, nice day, Oh I forgot to say, Mary and I were at Mr. Barton's last night to the molasses boiling.  Losie, Caroline, and Addie Boone were there, also, Mr. and Mrs. Dobbins.  Nora and Jessie, and Bessie Hashman the school miss besides a lot of boys.  Joe, Will, Herbert, and Harrison Frymyer Ernest Lambert, Moses and Floyd Perkins, John Nicholas, and Vessie Minney.  We played some games.  Had a real nice time.  Bessie came home with us to stay all night.  Goff came up with Mary, Moses with me and Howard with Bessie.  I stayed at the store again to-day, papa came home a little after noon, between two and three I guess.  Harley stayed at the store last night.  Well Vernetta Frame and her little son Clifford came up this evening and Mary and I and them went to Cleo Reip's to a bean shelling.  Ofa Barton and Will Frymyer came up and stopped a little while this evening.  Howard Goff and Eva came by and we all went up together.  There were a lot of people there.  I will try to write a few of the names.  I will not repeat the names of those who went with us. Herbert and Harrison Frymyer, Ern and Lee Lambert, Clarence and Everett Perkins, Raymond and Bina Perkins and their little baby, Mabel Louise. Losie, Caroline, Okey and Addie Boone, Everett Collins, Ermine Keener, Irene, Jessie Brady, Gay and Emery Bailey and their sister Mrs. Hollie Crawford "Mack" Of course Vernetta and Clifford stayed all night with us.

Sept. 27, Saturday nice day, I was up at aunt Martha's a little while to-day, in fact I ate my dinner there.  I went out to Mr. E. Perkins' to mill for uncle Billy.  I ironed some to-day. papa went to Rosedale to-day.  Mary and Mother stayed in the store till he came back.  There is preaching on Tanner tonight.  Mr. John McCumbers preaches.

Sept. 28, Sunday, lovely day, I forgot to say I got a letter from Bayard and Arden yesterday.  Was certainly glad to receive both.  Mother, Mary and I went to Tanner to preaching this morning.  Mr. John McCumbers preached.  He preached Mrs. Jane Cottrill's funeral.  Mr. Riddle talked a little while also.  Mother stopped at Leroy Miller's for dinner.  Sylvia and Harley went over to Mr. Reeder's this morning.  Lilly Birt and children were at preaching.  Mr. and Mrs. Sands and children and Allie went home.  Addie Boone was here a little while this afternoon. uncle Billy was here a while also.  There is to be preaching on Tanner again to-night.
