March 16, 1923.  Friday, cold & rainy.  Mother came down this afternoon.

 

March 17, Saturday, nice sunshiny day.  I went up home this afternoon, and then on out to Lilly's.  They live out on the hill between Mr. Ellsworth Perkins & Dalton Reip's.  They sold their farm on Tanner to Mr. Will Lambert, and Birt bought Harley's farm & a part of Dr. L. E. Roberts farm out there on the hill.  They moved where they live now on the first day of this month.  Dewey came out to Lilly's this evening after he did up the work at home.

 

March 18, Sunday, nice day.  One year ago to-day Eddie & Mary were married.  I had a nice time out at Lilly's.

 

March 19, Monday, rained & snowed to-day.  Bina Perkins came down this eve. and got a 1/2 gal. of buttermilk.  Harley has bought their house.  It is the first house above us.  He gave Raymon $850 for it.  Raymon is going to move in a house up next to the mill.

 

March 20, Tues. awfully cold frosty morn, nice afternoon.  Raymon & Harley both moved to-day.  John Upton moved Harley and Raymon moved himself.  I was up home a while this afternoon.  I stopped at Sylvia's a few min.

 

March 21, Wed. lovely day.  They moved Mr. & Mrs. Reeder and little Ray over to Harley's to-day.  Mrs. Reeder has been & is still very ill.  I went up home this afternoon.  Mary was up there & I went down home with her.  We stopped at Vinnie Turner's a little while.  My darling husband bought me this little book to-night.  I stopped at Sylvia's a few min. this eve.

 

March 22, Thursday warm rainy day.  I don't feel very well to-day.

 

March 23, Friday.  I was up home a while to-day.  I ate dinner there.  I stopped at Sylvia's a little while.

 

March 24, Saturday.  Mary's baby is two mo. old to-day.  Forgot to say it rained yesterday.  I was at Sylvia's a little while to-night.  Dewey went up town then came back and stopped there and we came home together.  My darling bought me a lb. of cheese to-night.

 

March 25, Sunday, nice day.  Dewey & I went over to Eddie's for dinner.  Cramer Shamblin was here a little while this morning to get his hair cut.  Clarence Conley & his oldest daughter, Helen were here to-day, but we weren't at home so they came over to Mary's.  Mrs. Georgie Pittsinger was here a little while this evening after some buttermilk.

 

March 26, Monday, cool day.  I made a lettuce bed this morning also carried some manure and put on the onion bed.  I am not feeling well to-day.  I was in home a few min. yesterday.  Mother had gone out to Lilly's.  I think I will go up to Sylvia's a little while after bit.  Raymon E. Conley is married now.  He was married the 26th day of Feb. to Kate Reaser.  I forgot to write that we own a house & lot up in town.  The house right by Oscar Hawkin’s  property.  It cost us about $250.

 

March 27, Tues.  I washed this morning & set out my onions & sowed my lettuce this afternoon.  Nice sunshiny day.  Bina Perkins & Wanda & Ray were here yesterday evening.  Bina came after buttermilk.  Ray & Wanda were here a little while to-day after some sweet milk for their grandma Reeder.

 

March 28, Wed. cold, windy day.  I baked two raisin pies this morning & one custard.  I also churned.  Then I went up to Sylvia's.  I took grandma Reeder up some fresh buttermilk.  Aunt Martha Stalnaker was there.  Uncle Billy came after her in the evening.  Mother, Mary & little Alvin Edward, Mrs. Elsworth Perkins, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Perkins' sister-in-law; Mrs. Cleo Reip, and Dr. Roberts were all there.

 

March 29, Thurs. nice sunshiny day, awfully cold frosty morning.  I don't feel very well to-day.  I wish I had my garden plowed.

 

Mar. 30, Friday, cool, but sunshiny.  I set two hens yesterday.  I went up home and got the eggs.  I stopped at Sylvia's a little while.  Sylvia came down Thurs. night & got a gal. of buttermilk.  I went up to her house to-day & helped set out their onions.  Mother was there & helped also.  I ate dinner up there.  Then I came home & went up to Mr. Hube Frame's garden & helped the Mrs. set out onions.  She gave me 1 gal. of sets for helping her.  Mr. Frame plowed our potato patch also our garden to-day.  Bina came down this evening and got 1/2 gal. of buttermilk.  Mr. Frame was here for supper.  Mrs. Frame & her three children stopped a little while.  Dewey went to town to-night.

 

March 31, Sat. awfully cold windy day, snowed some.  Bina was here a little while.  Raymon Perkins hauled us a load of hay to-day.  I have been feeling awfully bad to-day.

 

April 1, Easter Sunday. cold day.  Mother & Wanda were here a little while this morning.  Dewey & I went up to Sylvia's with them.  We all ate dinner there.  Mrs. Reeder is worse to-day.

 

April 2, Monday, nice day.  Mother & Wanda were here a few min. this morning.  Harley came down & covered some potatoes for me.  Ray came with him.

 

April 3, Tues.  I was at home a little while to-day.  I went down to Mary's to get some onions.  I stopped at Mrs. Eva Dobbins a little while.  I stopped at aunt Martha's & got some pea seed.  Uncle Billy nor her are well. rained to-day.

 

April 4, Wed.  I planted some radish seeds to-day also some beet seeds, rained some to-day.

 

April 5, Thurs. rainy day.  I feel awfully bad to-day.  I went up to Sylvia's a little while to-day.  Mother was there.  Mrs. Reeder is no better.

 

April 6, Friday, nice day.  I washed to-day.  Wanda, Maxine & Ray were here a while to-day.  Dewey & I picked a small mess of greens this evening.  My but they were good.

 

April 7, Saturday, lovely day.  Dewey helped me set out the rest of my onions this afternoon.  Then we finished planting potatoes.  We went fishing down here below the house a little piece.  It is the first time I was ever fishing.  I caught two fish. Then Dewey lost his hook and I gave him mine.  We got twelve fish in all.  Some of them were awfully small.

 

April 8, Sunday awfully cold day, snowed a little.  I was up at Sylvia's to-day.  Dewey stopped a little while also.  Mrs. Reeder is awfully low now.  Eddie, Raymon Perkins & "Bunt", Ernest Rollyson were here this morning.  We had a fine mess of fish for breakfast.

 

April 9, Monday, rather cold.  Dewey and I went to pick greens this afternoon.  We got a very nice mess.

 

April 10, Tues. nice day, but pretty cold.  I planted some sweet corn, some peas, and my tomato seeds this morning.  I went down to Mrs. Hube Frame's this afternoon and we went across the creek up in John Springstons corn field & picked a nice big mess of greens.

 

April 11, Wed. nice sunshiny day.  But frosty morning.  I was up at Sylvia's a little while this afternoon.  Mrs. Jane Reeder died this evening sometime after four o'clock.  I don't know just what time.

 

April 12, Thurs. cold frosty morning, nice sunshiny day.  Dewey has gone to work & I am here alone.  I suppose they will bury Mrs. Reeder sometime to-day.  Flavy Reeder was here a little while after buttermilk for Sylvia, Monday evening.  Glen Miller came down with me yesterday evening to get some buttermilk for Sylvia.  I wish I had another mess of greens.  Mr. Reeder brought Ray down to leave him with me till the rest of them went to Mrs. Reeder's funeral.  Ray didn't want to go.

 

April 13, Friday, rainy day.  Sylvia was here a little while this evening after buttermilk.  Dewey has gone up town.  I am here alone.  My, but I do get lonesome.  I wish my darling would hurry back.

 

April 14, Saturday, rained again to-day.  I was up home a few min. to-day, also was at Sylvia's a while.  We turned our cows in Mr. Minter Frame's pasture field yesterday.

 

April 15, Sunday, nice day.  Mr. Reeder brought Ray down to leave him with us this morning a little while.  I picked a mess of greens to-day.  Mary & Eddie, little Alvin and Wanda Leone were here to-day.

 

April 16, Monday, cool & cloudy.  To-day is my husband's birthday.  He is 24 years old.  Mr. John Upton brought our cook stove down from Mr. Edward Lynch's this morning. He brought it in the truck. He charged us $1.00. The stove cost us $13.00 in the first place.  Uncle Billy & Wanda & Ray were here a while this morning.  Ray is here now.  Dewey is running tour on an oil well now.  He started to work to-day at eleven o'clock.  He will come home to-night at 1 o'clock.  Well it is 5 min. till 2. I must get to my washing.

 

April 17, Tues. nice day.  I went up to Mr. Johnson Wright's this afternoon and his daughter, Mona, and his other daughter Mrs. Georgie Pittsinger and I went up Mill Fork & picked some greens.  We stopped a few min. at the new oil rig where my husband is working.  I was at Sylvia's a few min., also at papa's store.

 

April 18, Wed. awfully cool day.  I was up town to-day, also at Sylvia's a little while.

 

April 19, Thurs. lovely day.  I was up at Sylvia's this afternoon.  She made me a dress.  I ironed some for her.  I got me a pair of new slippers at papa's yesterday.  They are a dark chocolate brown.  Low rubber heel.  The 17th of this month was old grandpa Reeder's birthday.  He was 74 yr. old.  It is now 20 min. after 8 o'clock at night.  I am anxious for my dear husband to come.  I guess I will write a letter to my cousin Lillie Smith.

 

April 20, Friday, nice day.  I was up home a little while to-day.

 

April 21, Sat. , nice day.  I was up at Harley's a little while to-day.  I ate dinner there.  Birt Wilson was there for dinner also.  Sylvia, Harley, Mr. Reeder, Ray, & I all went over to Mr. Reeder's old place.  Birt went part of the way with us.  Sylvia & I rode Birt's horse.  I stopped at home a little while.

 

April 22, Sun. nice day.  Mother came down this morning, Maxine & Wanda came with her.  Eddie was here a while, also, Marvin Shock, Cramer Shamblin, and Everett King.  Mr. W. T. Harmon was here also.  We have bought this property of him. We gave $650.00 for it.  We paid $400 down.  Still owe $250 on it.  Have 2 yr. to pay it in if we want that long.  I taken bad sick to-day.  Mother came down this evening & is going to stay all night.  Aunt Rachel Carroll came down also Dr. Roberts.  I had bad luck and so was very ill.

 

April 23, Monday.  Mother came down twice to-day.  Ruby Carr is staying with us.  April 24, Tues. nice day.

April 26, Thurs.  Our cow Cutie, had a nice heifer calf to-day.

 

April 27, Friday, nice day.  To-day is Wanda Leone's birthday.  She is 4 yr. old.  She was here to-day.

 

April 28, Sat. rainy day.  This is Ruby's birthday.  She is 20 yr. old.  Mother and Sylvia have been down here to see me a whole lot this week but I can't remember just what days.  Dessie Schofield sent me a box of ramps from Webster Co. but I haven't got them cooked yet.

 

April 29, Sunday, nice day.  Papa was down here to-day, also Mabel Carr & Ella Meadows.  I suffered with the headache all day to-day.

 

April 30, Mon. nice day.  I suffered with the headache again to-day.  To-day is the 9th day since I took sick.

 

May 1, Tues.  I sit up some to-day for the first since I took sick.  Sylvia, Harley, & children were here all day.  Sylvia cooked my ramps for me.

 

May 2, Wed. nice day.  I am not feeling strong yet.

 

May 3, Thurs. nice day.  Mother came down this evening.  Wanda came with her.  Ruby & Mother picked a mess of greens for them up home & us.  They were good.  Dewey is running tour on the drilling well.  He begin running tour again Mon.

 

May 4, Fri. lovely day.  I am feeling very well to-day.  Ruby has gone up town to get some groceries.  I didn't get to write in this little book for 11 or 12 days on account of being sick.  I am so thankful that I am able to be up again.  They were all so uneasy about me.

 

May 5, Saturday, nice day.  I went up to Sylvia's to-day.  I was almost give out when I got there.  Mother, Mary and little Alvin came down to-day.  They stopped at Sylvia's a little while, then Sylvia & the children and them all came an down home with me.  Sylvia brought me three rose bushes & set them out for me.  Mother sowed me a little lettuce seed.  Ruby went over home a while.

 

May 6, Sun. nice day.  Ruby went down to the lower church to a baptizing.  She was gone almost all day.  Harley was here a while.  Sylvia & the children went out to Lilly's.  Papa went with them.  Ruby went to church.  She stayed over home to-night.

 

May 7, Monday, nice day.  Ruby's two weeks are up this morning.  She is going home. She charged us $3.50 per week for staying with us.  Sylvia was here a little while to-day.  Also Wanda & Maxine.  I got along very well with the work.  I am not strong yet tho'.

 

May 8, Tues. rainy part of day.  Sylvia & Wanda were here a little while this evening.  Sylvia brought me 16 cabbage plants and set them out for me.

 

May 9, Wed. cold, snowed , hailed and rained to-day.  An awfully, awfully bad day.  I was at Sylvia's a little while.  I also was up town.  Was at home a little while, also at Mrs. Nettie Hawkin's a while, and at the post office and at Roughner Stalnaker's store. ground is covered with snow this evening.

 

May 10, Thurs. nice sunshiny day.  Sylvia was here a little while.  She came after buttermilk.

 

May 11, Friday, rainy day.  White face's calf is three months old to-day.  I wish my darling didn't have to work in the rain to-night.

 

May 12, Saturday, I was up town to-day, also at Sylvia's a little while.  Harley came down with me and got a gal. of buttermilk.  It rained some to-day.

 

May 13, Sunday, nice day.  Eddie was here a little while.  Dewey & I went up to Harley's.  I got some lettuce there for supper.  Mrs. Eva.  Dobbins & her baby Nellie & her two sons, Glen & Berlin Miller were there.  Her & her three children, Sylvia, & Maxine & Wanda, also Mr. Reeder & Ray came home with us and stayed a while.

 

May 14, Mon. nice day.  Dewey helped me in the garden this morning.  Mother came down to-day.  I fixed Dewey's pail and taken it up to him this evening.  Mother went with me.  It was after 8 o'clock when we got back to the store.  I stopped at Sylvia's a few min.  Harley has gone away to work, & Mr. Reeder & Ray started to Lewis Co. on a visit.  They left this morning.  Ruby Carr is staying with Sylvia.

 

May 15, Tues. very nice day.  I went over to Mary's a little while this afternoon.  I also stopped at Aunt Martha's a little while, also at home and at Sylvia's.  I got some cabbage plants at Mr. Beatty's and some tomato plants at Mrs. Upton's.  It rained this evening & to-night.

 

May 16, Wed. rained some to-day.  Dewey didn't work on the well to-day.  He fixed fence. He is up in town now.

 

May 17, Thurs.

 

May 18, Friday.  I think it has rained every day this week.

 

May 19, Sat.  I went up town to-day , and stopped at Sylvia's a little while.

 

May 20, Sunday , rained some to-day.  Eddie & Orvin Shamblin were here this morning and got their hair cut, Mr. Hube Frame & his son Emmerson, also a Norman boy.  Dewey & I were at Sylvia's for dinner.  Mother was there also.  They all came home with us.  Ruby was here a little while this evening.  Sylvia came down to get us to go up and stay all night with her.  Ruby wanted to go to Young People's meeting & Sylvia is afraid to stay just with the children.  We went up and stayed with her.  Dewey has to start to work at midnight.  He is going to run tour on a drilling well at the head of Mill Fork for Bill Marks.

 

May 21, Mon., right nice day.  Ruby came down and I went with her down to Mr. Hube Frame's to get a setting of eggs, but she didn't get them.  Eddie came over and hoed our potatoes for us.  He owed Dewey some work.  I was up at the store this evening, also stopped at Sylvia's a few min.  I worked some in the garden.  I am sure tired to-night.

 

May 22, Tues. nice day.  I went up to the mill after some meal this morn.  I also stopped at Bina Perkins.  I went over to Uncle Billy's to borrow his corn planter this afternoon.  I was at Eva Dobbins' a few min.  I also stopped at Mr. Nath Shamblin's & bought a qt. of molasses.  I was at Mr. Chance Beatty's a few min. to get change for a dollar.  Dewey & I planted corn & beans in the potato patch.

 

May 23, Wed. rained some to-day.  I finished sticking my peas to-day.  Sylvia was here a little while.  Lena, Mildred & Delta Gumm & Rexie Shaffer were here a little while.

 

May 24, Thursday, nice day.  Bina Perkins came down to-day to get me to go fishing with her.  We went up Mill Fork a piece.  I caught five fish & she caught four.  We were up at the new rig a few min.  I stopped at home a little while.

 

May 25, Friday, White face got out of the field to-day & went across the creek.  We had an awful time.  Dewey got to come in this evening about five o'clock as the bit was lost.  He went fishing this eve. . My but I am tired.

 

May 26, Saturday, nice day, rained just a little this morning or last night.  Dewey hoed some in the garden for me and helped me plant some sweet corn.  Mother came down yesterday.  I was up at Sylvia's this afternoon and she finished my blue percal dress.

 

May 27, Sun. awfully hot, sultry day.  Dewey had to work to-day.  I had to take his pail to him this afternoon, I expect it was about half past twelve.  Wanda Leone went with me.  I stopped at Sylvia's a while.  I bought a doz. eggs off her.  Mother was there.  Dolly Snodgrass came home with me and stayed a little while.  Dewey went to work about half past seven or maybe it was eight.  I don't know when he will be home.

 

May 28, Monday, nice morning.  To-day is sister Mary's birthday.  She is 21 yrs. old. I washed to-day.  It came an awfully hard rain this evening.  Mrs. Hube Frame & her three children stopped here out of the rain.

 

May 29, Tues. nice day.  I baked some to-day.  Sylvia was here a little while this morning.  I was up at the store this evening.  Sister Lilly and her three children, Orel, Macel, & Garnet, also Sylvia and Wanda & Maxine all came down this evening.  Lilly and the children are going to stay all night.

 

May 30, Wed. awfully hot day.  Dewey & I went up home to-day.  Lilly , Birt & their children, Sylvia & her children & Dewey and I were all there for dinner.  Mary & her baby, Alvan, came up after dinner.  We all went over to the church to the Decoration services.

 

May 31, Thurs. hot day.  I went over to Mary's this evening, and also was at Uncle Billy's a little while and at Mr. Nath Shamblin's a few min.

 

June 1, Friday, hot day.  Mother was here a while this morning.  I dropped the beans in the planter for Dewey this morn and we planted the orchard in beans & corn.  Mother helped us hoe some in the garden.  Sylvia was here a few min.  Well I must get to work.

 

June 2, Sat. nice day.  I was up at the store to-day.

 

June 3, Sun. hot day.  Uncle Billy and Aunt Martha were here to-day.  Sylvia, Wanda and Maxine and papa all came this afternoon.  They all stayed till after supper.

 

June 4, Mon.  I washed to-day.  Mother was here a little while.  It rained some to-day.

 

June 5, Tues. rained some to-day.

 

June 6, Wed.  We finished filling our garden to-day.  We were at Sylvia's a few min. to-day.  Rained some.

 

June 7, Thurs. rained some, awfully hot day.  Savannah Harmon was here for dinner to-day.  Eddie was here a few min. to-day.

 

June 8, Friday cloudy morning.  Dewey has gone to work.  I want to iron some to-day.

 

June 9, Sat. nice day.  I went up to the store to-day, also stopped at Sylvia's a little while.

 

June 10, Sunday, nice day but cool.  Eddie , Mary & Alvin , Sylvia, Wanda, and Maxine and Mother were all here to-day.  We made ice cream and had a nice time. We borrowed Mr. Cam Rollyson's ice cream freezer.

 

June 11, Monday, rainy day.  I was up at Sylvia's a few min. yesterday eve.  I set a hen to-day.

 

June 13, Wed. rained this morning.  Dewey & I were at a funeral this evening.  It was Miss Jessie Gay Dobbins funeral.  She died at the hospital at Charlestown Monday night.  June 11, she was operated on for appendicitis.  She was 21 yrs.  I mo. & 27 da. old.  We stopped at home a little while.

 

June 14, Thurs. nice day.  I am not feeling well to-day.  Dewey has gone to work.  I am rather lonely.  Sylvia & her two children came down for supper.  I made a cake to-day.

 

June 15, Friday, Mother came down to-day.  Corbert Jones brought me a gallon of cherries and a gallon of currants.  I paid .50 for cherries .25 for currants.  Stormed and rained hard this evening.

 

June 16, Saturday, I washed this afternoon.  I was up home a few min. this morning.  Also stopped at Sylvia's a few min.  Sylvia and children were here a little while this evening.

 

June 17, Sunday, nice day.  Dewey had to work to-day.  I was up at Sylvia's for dinner.  Mary, Mother & father were there also.  Sylvia was here a little while.  Wanda Leone was here a little while this morn.  Uncle Billy was here a little while.  Well I am sleepy and tired as it is after nine o'clock.  Dewey hasn't come home yet.  I hope he will soon come.

June 23, Sat. I went up town to-day. I ate dinner with Bertie Meadows. I sold her a lb. of butter. I was also up at Mary's a little while. I stopped at Aunt Martha's a few min. I stopped at Sylvia's a little while. Harley came home last evening. Mother went up to Lilly's this morning.

 

June 24, Sunday, lovely day.  Dewey has gone up town.  I am just resting to-day.  Harley was here a little while.

 

June 25, Monday.

 

June 26, Tues. nice day.  I was up at Bina Perkins' a little while to-day. also was up home a little while.  Mary & baby Alvin were there.

 

June 27, Wed. nice day, rained hard last night.  Dewey is working to-day.

 

June 28, Thurs. rained some to-day.  Mother was here a little while to-day.

 

June 29, Fri. nice day.  I washed to-day.  Bernice & Mabel Carr were here a little while to-day, also Rexie Shaffer, Lena & Mildred Gumm & Mirrel Newell.

 

June 30, Sat. nice day.  I was up town to-day. also at the mill, and stopped at Sylvia's a little while.  Mother was here to-day & made me a kettle of soap.  I had my first mess of green beans to-day.

 

July 1, Sunday, dark, coal, cloudy day.  Rained some.  Eddie, Mary & baby, Sylvia Harley & children and papa were here to-day.  We made ice cream.  Sylvia & children were here for supper.

 

July 2, Monday.  We hoed some corn to-day.

 

July 3, Tues.

 

July 4, Wed. nice day, very hot.  We went up to town to-day.  Had a very nice time.

 

July 5, Thurs.

 

July 6, Friday.

 

July 7, Sat. we finished hoeing our corn in the orchard yesterday, rained to-day.

 

July 8, Sunday, very hot day.  Dewey & I went over to Mary's to-day.  Papa was there also.

 

July 9, Monday, nice day.  Dewey has gone to work.  I washed to-day.

 

July 10, Tues.

 

July 11, Wed. awfully hot day.  Mother was here to-day.  I have an awfully bad cold, rained this evening.

 

July 12, Thurs. rained to-day.  My cold isn't much better.  I set a hen to-day.

July 19, Thurs.  I went to pick berries yesterday.  We are putting up ceiling paper in the sitting room.

July 21, Sat.  I finished putting up paper in the sitting room to-day.  Lilly & the children came over to Mother's this evening.

 

July 22, Sunday, nice day.  Dewey had to work to-day.  Lilly, Birt & children and Mary & baby also Mother and myself all met at Sylvia's this afternoon.  Mrs. Ivy Schoolcraft and her two children, Russell & Edith were there.

 

July 23, Monday, nice hot day.  I was up town this evening.  Dewey was with me.

 

July 24, Tues. rainy day.  Dewey didn't work to-day as it was too rainy.  I feel awfully bad to-day.

 

July 25, Wed.  My cat, Tabby, had two little kittens last night.

 

July 26, Thurs. nice day.  Mother came down to-day.  She killed a chicken for me and I fried it for supper.

 

July 27, Fri.  I washed to-day, also canned three qts. of beets.

 

July 28, Sat. rained to-day, I went up town.  I was at home a few min., & was at Aunt Rachel's a while. also stopped at Vinnie's a little while.

 

July 29, Sun. awfully cloudy most all day.  Vinnie, Shirley and Suzan & little John Carroll were here for dinner to-day.  Dewey & I went up town this evening.  We stopped at Aunt Rachel's a little while.  Well I don't feel well to-night.  My darling husband is in bed asleep so I will quit writing.

 

July 30, Mon.  I went up to the Drs. a little while to get some medicine.  I was at papa's store a few min.  Also was at Mary's to take her some butter.  Rained some to-day.  Dewey & I picked some berries this evening in our berry patch.

 

July 31, Tues.  I went up town to-day and took some butter up.  I sold it to Bertie Meadows.  It rained to-day.

Aug. 2, Thurs. awfully hot day.  I went on the hill and picked berries this afternoon.  Dewey went up Mill Fork to work for Bill Marks to-day.

 

Aug. 3, Fri.  I washed to-day.  It rained some this evening.  Dewey worked for Bill Marks again to-day.  I took my little brown hen off with twelve little chicks this morning.  They sure are nice.

Aug. 5, Sunday, Mother came down to-day and we had fried chicken for dinner.  It rained to-day.  Dewey and Uncle Jim and Bish took the calves up to the farm.  We turned the cows out in Mr. Minter Frame's field.

Aug. 8, Wed. rained again to-day.  I canned three qts. of pickles this afternoon.  I have not been feeling well the last few days.

Aug. 13, Mon. nice day.  Birt Wilson was here for supper this eve.  He bought my cow, Cutie.  He is to give us $40.00. My but I hate to see her go.

Sylvia & her children came down also.

 

Sept. 23, Sunday, nice day.  We went out to the Locust Grove on papa's farm to a picnic to-day.  There were lots of people there.  We had a nice time.  Dewey and I walked out there but I rode back in Minter Frame's car.  I stopped at Lucy Perrine's a little while.

 

Sept. 24, Monday, nice day.  I don't feel well to-day.  Dewey killed three squirrels this morning.  I must go & put them on to fry.

 

Sept. 25, Tues.  I went around to Wirt Norman's this afternoon & got a little pup that the boy gave Dewey.  We call it Jack.  Awfully nice weather.  They said the pup was a mo. old the 24 th.

Nov. 11, Sunday, nice day.  Dewey & Mirrel Newell were out hunting last night.  Mirrel stayed the rest of the night here.  Dewey had to go to work this morning as the gas well he is working on caught fire some way and he had to go and help put it out.  I went up to preaching this morning to hear our new preacher's first sermon here.  His name is Mr. Cornell.  I like his sermon fine.  I am at home all alone now.

Nov. 30, Friday I was up at Sylvia's a little while this morning to take the sausage mill home.  Rained again to-day.

 

Dec. 1, Sat.  Mirrel Newell & Harley King came over to-day & helped Dewey tear down the smoke house up at the Hube Frame place & I helped carry the lumber down to the house.  We are going to make us a hen house out of it.  The boys were here for dinner.

Dec. 14, Friday, cold morning, the ground is covered with snow.  The first time this winter.  I went up home again and helped in the store.  Papa is better to-day.  I went down to Mary's this afternoon and stayed a few min.  Also stopped at Chance Beatty's a few min. also at Mrs. Shamblin's a little while.  I stopped at Sylvia's a few min. yesterday morning.

 

Dec. 15, Sat. cold morning.  Yesterday was Sylvia's birthday.  She was 30 yr. old.  To-day is Birt's birthday.  He is 36.

Dec. 29, Sat.  I went up to the mill this morning, also was in home a few min.  Was in at Mrs. Alice Englishes a little while, I also stopped at Sylvia's a few min.  Mother was there.  Mrs. English and her two sons Buster (Virgil) and Acie were here this evening and stayed till eleven o'clock to-night and went up town with Dewey when he started to work.

 

Dec. 30, Sunday nice day.  Mrs. English came down this evening about three o'clock and stayed till nearly dark.  Her boys were with her.  I like the appearance of Mrs. English just fine.

 

Dec. 31, Monday, rained last night and some to-day, and is raining to-night.  My darling husband is asleep.  My how I hate for him to have to get up & go to work to-night.

Jan. 8, Tues. very nice day.  I was up home to-day, also up to Mrs. Englishe's.  They live back of Jim Carroll's restaurant.  A few days ago Dewey mashed his finger awfully bad up at the drilling well that he is working on.  I went up to Mr. Ed Lynch's to tell him that he would not be able to go an tour that night.  Then I went up to Dr. Robert's house to see if he was home so Dewey could go up & have his finger dressed.  He had gone to prayer Meeting so I started home & met Dewey so we went over home a little while, down to Minter Frame's store, down to Stalnaker's store and missed the Dr. and Dewey went up to his house and I stayed at Jesse Snodgrasses and waited till he came back.  Then we came an home.  All this happened on Thurs.  Jan 3.

 

Jan. 9, Wed. nice sunshiny day.  I washed to-day.  Birt and Harley were out in the yard and talked to us a while.

Jan. 11, Friday, turned cold and snowed some this evening.  Dewey is in bed asleep.  He has to start to work now at eleven o'clock at night & gets back at 1 o'clock next day.  It is 15 min. after seven now.  I want to pick out some walnut kernels to-night.

 

Jan. 12, Sat.  I was up home a few min. to-day.  Was at Mrs. Englishe's a little while also.  Mr. Wise Moore, the Gilmer Co. assessor was here for dinner to-day.  I was at Sylvia’s a few min.

 

Jan. 13, Sunday.  We were up home a few min. to-day.  We went down to Mary's, had a nice visit.  Snowed a little to-day.

Feb. 4, Monday cool frosty morning.  Dewey's hand is worse.  He has gone up town and if the Dr. isn't there he will go to Frametown or Gassaway to see a Dr. I expect.  Mother was here to-day.  Mirrel Newell was here for dinner.  Bina Perkins & Wanda Hawkins were here this evening after buttermilk.  Dr. Roberts came home this evening.

 

Feb. 5, Tues. rained and hailed this morning.  Mirrel stayed here last night.  He is digging post holes for Dewey.  Sylvia was here a little while.

Feb. 26, Tues.  I was up home, at Raymon Perkins & at Mr. Roy Brannons to-day.  Roy Brannon & Raymon Perkins are selling their household goods.  They are going to Akron, Ohio.

Mar. 5, Wed. rained to-day.  I was up home a few min. to-day, also at Mr. Minter Frame's a little while, and at Mrs. English's a little while.  Mrs. English came down as far as Sylvia's with me.  I stopped there a few min.

 

Mar. 6, Thurs. cool day, rained a little.  Dewey & I went down to Mr. Hube Frame's a little while to-night.

 

Mar. 7, Friday.  Mr. Hube Frame is moving over to Dr. Robert's farm on Antony.  Mr. & Mrs. Hube Frame, & their three children, (Emerson, Lorena, & Doyle) were here for supper this evening & will be here all night.  Mrs. Frame's name is Lula.  It snowed to-day & was awfully windy & cold.

 

Mar. 8, Sat. cold day , snowed, just a little.  Mrs. Frame's left this morning about 9 o'clock.  Uncle Billy was here a little while.

 

March 9, Sun. very nice day.  I went up to Sunday school.  Dewey stayed at Harley's.  I came down to Harley's.  Then Dewey & I went up town & stopped at his grandfather's a little while for he is sick.  I went on down to Mary's.  I stopped at Mrs. J. E. Turner's a little while.  Dewey came down to Mary's & we came home, or rather I came home & he stopped to see his grandfather again.  I was also at Uncle Will Carroll's a little while this morning to see Aunt Rachel.  She has been very ill.  Just got back from the hospital a few weeks ago.

Mar. 23, Sun.  Dewey went home early this morning to milk the cow & feed the chickens.  I came home this evening.  I had a nice visit out at sister Lilly's.

Mar. 26, Wed. rainy day.  Mother was here for dinner to-day.  I set my little old brown hen to-day.  Dewey got Harlev Carroll's boat yesterday & we went boat riding.  We have the boat borrowed for awhile.  Dewey is up town now.  I am getting sleepy so guess I will quit writing & go to bed.

Mar. 28, Friday.  I washed to-day.  Dewey & I went around on Brian fishing this afternoon.  I caught one fish & he caught six.

 

Mar. 29, Sat.  Dewey & I went across the creek in the boat this evening & I went up to Bertie King's a little while, then on up town & stopped at father's a while then Dewey & I came down & stopped at Jesse Snodgrasse's a little while & listened to the radio.  Then came on home.

 

Mar. 30, Sun. nice day, but rather chilly & windy.  I went to Sunday school this morning.  Wanda Leone went with me.  Mother came down as far as Sylvia's with me. I stopped there a little while.  Dewey went with Harley over to Ofey Bartons.  Dennis Perrine had a dance at his house last night.  Mary & Eddie came down on the other side of the creek & I set them across in the boat.  They stayed here quite a while, then when Dewey came home we had some pictures made, as Mary & Eddie had their Kodak with them, and then we went across the creek in the boat.  Dewey & I went home with them & stayed a little while.

April 7, Monday, Sylvia was here a few min. this morning.  I went up to her house to stay with the children while she went out to Lilly's & down to the old home place to get some flower plants.  She brought me some.  Dewey ate dinner at her house.  I got dinner.  It rained to-day.

April 10, Thurs. cool day.  Bish came down & help Dewey graft some apple trees to-day.  Him & Uncle Billy were both here for dinner.  Bish grafted some for Harley also.  Dewey helped him.  I went up town this evening.  I stopped at Sylvia's a few min.

 

April 11, Friday nice day.  Mr. Hube Frame was here for dinner & supper.  He came to plow for us.  I washed this afternoon.

April 14, Mon.  Uncle Billy was here for dinner.  He was helping Dewey put up our poultry wire around the garden & yard.  He couldn't help long so I helped Dewey put up wire all afternoon.  I was up at Sylvia's a few min. this morning.

 

April 15, Tues. nice day, rained a little yesterday, also a little bit to-day.  Dewey & I finished putting up our wire this morning.  We planted some potatoes, also worked some in the garden.  I picked my first mess of greens to-day that I have had this spring.  My, but they were fine.  Dewey has gone up town.  The frogs are hollering something awful.

April 27, Sun. nice day.  This is Wanda Leone Reeder's birthday.  She is 5 years old.  We went up to Sunday school and preaching to-day.  Mr. Creed Yoke preached.  Mary & Alvin & Mother came down with us from meeting.  Eddie came over in a little while after we got home, also Merch Harmon & Cecil Jarvis.  All those named were here for dinner.  In the afternoon the following names are the ones that were here a short time.  Arlou Hawkins, Ruth Perrine, Ursal Rollyson, Harley King & Mirrel Newell.  We, Dewey & I, went up to meeting again to-night.

May 19, Monday.  Nice morning, rained late in evening.  Mother, Mrs. Bill Marks & her daughter Mary, Gay Brannon & her little son, Eugene & Bina Perkins were all here a while this afternoon.  Also Wanda & Maxine.

 

May 20, Tues. rained some to-day.  Sylvia & the children were here a while to-day.

 

May 21, Wed. rained some to-day.  I was over at Bertie King's a few min. to-day.  Also at Mary's.  I stopped at Mr. Shamblin's a little while.  I also stopped at Mr. Upton's to return some books I borrowed to read.  I was up home a few min.  Then I came on down home.  I have about 50 or 51 little chickens.  Something became of 5 of my little chickens while I was gone.  Dewey has gone up town.

May 23, Friday.  To-day is Arlie Maxine Reeder's birthday.  She is 3 yr. old.

 

May 24, Sat.  Yesterday a lot of people from town came down here & ate their lunch up in our sugar grove.  They were, Mrs. Frank Martin, Mrs. Bill Marks & her daughter, Mary Elizabeth, Eugene Brannon, Mrs. Bitha Upton & her daughter, Lelah, Mother & Mary & Alvan.  I washed yesterday also.  Mrs. English and her two sons, Virgil, (called Buster) and Acie, were here this afternoon.  They stayed for supper.  Uncle Billy was here for supper also.

 

May 25, Sun. rained some to-day , also rained yesterday.  Mr. Hube Frame came over this morning and stayed a little while.  Mirrel Newell was here for supper.  I have been sick nearly all day.

 

May 26, Monday.

 

May 27, Tuesday.  Rained some to-day.  This is primary election day.  I didn't vote.  We went over to Mary's a little while.  I was at Bertie's a little while also.  Dewey hived a swarm of bees for Mr. Ellis Snodgrass this evening.  Dewey caught a red tailed hawk in a trap last Sunday.  It had killed our largest hen.  The hawk measured 51 in. from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other wing.

 

May 28, Wed.  Mary, Eddie & the baby & Claude Wilson & Faye Marshall were here a few min. to-day.  They came to take the picture of the hawk.

June 9, Monday rainy day, rained and stormed yesterday.  It blowed two of our apple trees out.

 

June 10, Tues. rained again this evening.  Mother was down here a little while this afternoon.  I feel just a little bit better to-day than I have been feeling for a while.

June 21, Sat. rained this afternoon.  I made a cake day before yesterday.  Mother was here          a few min. to-day.  I feel awfully bad this evening.  Protracted meeting is going      on up in town.  It begin Thurs. night.  Rev.  Wayman is holding the meeting.  I haven't been there a time yet.  I am not able to go.  Besides Dewey is running tour and doesn't get in till 1 o'clock at night.

 

June 22, Sun.  I went up to preaching to-day & heard Rev. Wayman preach.  That was the first time I ever heard him preach.  I stopped at Sylvia's for dinner, Dewey was there also.

June 24, Tues.  I don't feel very well to-day.  I made a cake & some dried apple pies yesterday.

Sept. 13, Sat. rainy day.  Dewey and I washed to-day.  We were up at Sylvia's a little while to-night.  Bernice & Okey Brannon were here a little while this evening.

 

Sept. 14, Sunday.  Dewey is up town.  I am at home alone.  We went up home and stayed a little while.

Sept. 19, Friday.  To-day is Lilly's & Garnet's birthday.  Lilly is 32 and Garnet is 8.

Sept. 21, Sunday.  Dewey & I were up at Sylvia's for dinner to-day.  James Reeder, Harley's nephew, was here for supper last evening.

Oct. 21, Tues. frosted last night.  Dewey didn't work for the Co. to-day.  He husked some corn and buried our potatoes, cabbage & handovers.

Oct. 24, Fri. frosty morning.  I was up home a little while to-day.  I also stopped at Sylvia's a while and ate dinner there.  Sylvia cut me out a new dress.

 

Oct. 25, Sat. frosty morning, lovely sunshiny day.  I washed and scrubbed the kitchen to-day.  Mrs. Ed Lynch & Georgie Pittsinger & two of her youngest children, Mamie, & Herman were here a little while this afternoon.  Dewey is up town to-night.  I am pretty tired to-night.

Nov. 3, Mon.  I went over to Mary's to-day.  Mother, Sylvia & Wanda & Maxine all came while I was there.

 

Nov. 4, Tues.  Election day.  I didn't go to vote.  Dewey went tho'.

Nov. 6, Thurs.  I washed to-day.  Cleo & Dalton Reip were here a little while.  They brought us some stuff from Spencer.  My but I feel bad to-night.

 

Nov. 7, Friday.  I was up at Sylvia's for dinner to-day.  Dewey is up town now.  We have been having plenty of frost but no rain lately.  I think it must be Indian summer, it has been so smoky the last two or three days.

Nov. 9, Sunday.  I went up to preaching this morning.  I went home with Mother for dinner.  Dewey went out to Birt's.  We stopped at Sylvia's a few min. as we came home.

Nov. 11, Tues.  I was up home a little while to-day.  I was at Mary's for dinner.  Her & Alvin went up town with me.

 

Nov. 12, Wed.  They begin on the new well down at Mr. Thurman Shock's place to-night.  Dewey & Shirley got the first tour.  I stopped at the new preacher's, Mr. David Smith, yesterday.  They have two daughters, Eugenia & Luella.

 

Nov. 13, Thurs. warm & cloudy.  I was up home a little while, also at Mrs. McClung's and Mrs. J. A. Wright's.  Mother was with me.

 

Nov. 14, Friday was awfully warm last night.  It's cooler to-day.

Nov. 25, Tues. cold day.  Ena washed to-day.  I went up town.  Was at Mr. Cam Rollyson's a little while.  Also over at Mr. Oscar Hawkins a little while.  Ena has gone over to Laurel to Literary with Jim Shocks girls.

Dec. 1, Mon. cold day.  Dewey, Ena and I went up to Harley's a little while to-night.

 

Dec. 2, Tues. cold day.  Ena has gone over to Laurel to Literary to-night and I am by myself.

 

Dec. 3, Wed. cold and rainy, Dewey had to go to Sutton to-day.  I was up home a little while, also up at Mr. Roughner Stalnaker's a little while and at Uncle Will Carroll's a little while.

Dec. 5, Fri.  My sister Lilly gave birth to a fine big boy about 2 o'clock this morning.  I think it weighed 9 3/4 lb.  Birt came down after Ena this afternoon.  I went up town.  Mother & I were out at Uncle Will Carroll's a few min.  I got Stella King to come down to stay with me a few davs.  Dewev came home this morning.

 

Dec. 6, Sat. rainy part of the day.  Dewey & Harley killed our hog to-day.

 

Dec. 7, Sun. rainy day.  Stella went up to Mr. Johnson Wright's and didn't come back till after 9 to-night.  Dewey & I went over to Mary's a little while this afternoon.  We also stopped at Mr. Jim Frame's a little while.

 

Dec. 8, Mon.  I was awfully sick at my stomach last night, feel awfully bad to-day.  We rendered the lard and canned the sausage to-day.

 

Dec. 9, Tues. nice day.  Stella washed to-day.  Monna Wright and Bale Turner were here a while this afternoon.  Stella went to Literary to-night.  I went up to Sylvia's to-night and Dewey went on up town.  He called me when he came back & we came home together.

 

Dec. 10, Wed. cold day.  Dewey went out to Birt's to-day.  Stella has gone up to Mr. Wright's.  The kitten & I are all alone as Dewey took our pup "Jack", with him.

 

Dec. 11, Thurs.  Stella went to prayer meeting to-night.

Dec. 12, Friday.  Dewey & I were up town this afternoon.  Stella went back up to Mr. Wright's this evening.  I kept her a wk.  Paid her ($3.00).

 

Dec. 13, Sat. rather cold and windy.

 

Dec. 14, Sun. cool.  Mirrel Newell, Durwood Gumm & Harley King were here a while to-night.  We played flinch.

 

Dec. 15, Mon. rather cool.  Dewey is up town.  Mother was here a little while last Thurs.

 

Dec. 16, Tues.  Virgie King is going to stay with me to-night.  Monna Wright & Stella King were here a little while to-day.  Sylvia was here a little while last night.

 

Dec. 17, Wed.  Mother was here this afternoon.  Stella King came down this evening to stay with me a day or two.  Awfully warm, sultry weather.

 

Dec. 18, Thurs., nice warm day, this is my birthday.  I am 29.  Monna & Gale were here a while this afternoon.  Stella washed to-day.

 

Dec. 19, Fri.  I don't feel a bit well to-day.  My little daughter was born to-day about half past three this afternoon.  She weighed seven lb.  We call her Hazel Enid.  Mrs. Lillie Wright, and Mrs. Rachel Carroll, and Mother were with me.

 

Dec. 20, Sat. forgot to say Sylvia & Mary were here a little while in the evening yesterday.  Rained then turned colder yesterday.  Mother stayed with me last night.  Ena Minney came to-day and Stella went up to Mr. Wright's to stay.  Aunt Rachel Carroll was here this morning.

 

Dec. 21, Sun.  Mother and Sylvia were here a while to-day.  Dec. 22, Mon.

Dec. 25, Thurs. (Christmas day) My what a lonesome day.  Nobody was here but just, Ena, Dewey, baby and I. There have been several people here since baby came but I can't remember what days the different ones came.  So I didn't write them at all.
