February 5, Friday.

 

Feb. 6, Sat. Rainy day. Minnie Miller went home this morning. Dewey came home this eve.. He rode a Mr. Wilson’s horse.

 

Feb. 7, Sun. Dewey went back to Chestnut Lick, to work, this eve. G. but I am lonely to-night.

 

Feb. 8, Monday. Minnie came back this evening.

 

Feb. 9, Tues. Dewey came home this evening. They finished their job over there. Rainy day.

 

Feb. 10, Wed. Minnie isn’t coming back to-night. Mother came down to-day. We had chicken for dinner.

 

Feb. 11, Thurs. I washed to-day.

 

Feb. 12, Friday. Cold day. We went over to Mary’s to-day. Mother came down there this afternoon. I went down to Bertie King’s a little while.

Feb. 14, Sun. father came down to-day.

 

Feb. 15, Mon. I fried most of a ham to-day and canned it. Birt Wilson was here a little while this eve. . He came to borrow ($50.00) of us. We loaned it to him.

 

Feb. 16, Tues. Will Frymyer came to help Dewey build fence to-day.

 

Feb. 17, Wed. Nice day. Will Frymyer helped Dewey build fence again to-day. I washed. Will is going to stay here to-night.

 

Feb. 18, Thurs. cloudy and windy. Dewey and Will finished the fence this afternoon about two o’clock. Will has gone home and Dewey went up town. Baby and I are here alone.

Feb. 21, Sun. Gay Norman was here a little while this afternoon.

 

Feb. 22, Mon. rained to-day. I am not feeling very well to-day. Goff Frymyer hauled some manure for us to-day. He was here for dinner.

Feb. 24, Wed. Sylvia was here a little while this afternoon. Uncle Jim Mace was here for dinner.

 

Feb. 25, Thurs. awfully windy.

 

Feb, 26, Friday, rained some also snowed some to-day, and is awfully windy. I washed to-day. Dewey is working for The Mill Fork to-day.

Feb. 28, Sun. rather cold. We went over to Mary’s to-day. Eddie is rather ill. Has something wrong with his side.

 

Mar. 1, Mon. nice sunshiny morning, rained this evening.

 

Mar. 2, Tues. snowed last night and is snowing this morning & the wind is blowing awfully cold.

Mar. 4, Thurs. Mother was here to-day. To-day is our wedding anniversary. Dewey & I were married 4 years ago to-day.

Mar. 6, Sat. nice day. Eddie, Mary and their two children were here to-day for dinner. Mar. 7, Sun. rainy day.

Mar. 10, Wed. nice day. Dewey, Hazel and I went up to Mother’s to-day. We, Mother, Hazel and I were in at Bonnie’s a little while, also at Mrs. Marks. I stopped at Mrs. Lynche’s a little while as we went up. I was also in at Mrs. Beatty’s a little while.

 

Mar. 11, Thurs. rainy part of day. Mr. Jim Marshall started with Alice Mace to the Weston Asylum this morning. Ena Minnie was here a little while this afternoon.

 

Mar. 12, Friday, rather cold and trying to snow. I am washing to-day.

Mar. 14, Sun. We were over at Mary’s to-day. Mother was there this afternoon.

Mar. 16, Tues. Mother was here to-day.

 

Mar. 17, Wed. Big snow on this morning.

Mar. 19, Friday. Hazel is fifteen months old to-day. She has four front upper teeth four front lower teeth, two jaw teeth above and one through below, and the edge of another through. She can say several words.

 

Mar. 20, Sat. rainy most all day.

 

Mar. 21, Sun. nice day. Papa is here to-day. Dewey is sick to-day.

 

Mar. 22, Monday. nice day. We set out our onions and sowed some lettuce and planted some radish seed to-day. Dewey is feeling awfully bad this evening.

 

Mar. 23, Tues, rained to-day. Dewey is still sick, he got some medicine of the Dr last night.

 

Mar. 24, Wed. Lovely spring day. Dewey is some better to-day. I went up town this afternoon and taken up four doz. eggs.

Mar. 27, Sat. I washed some to-day. Dewey is lots better to-day.

 

Mar. 28, Sun. nice day. Mr. Jim Marshall was here a little while. Baby Hazel is awfully cute.

Mar. 30, Tues. Hazel & I went visiting to-day. We were at Mr. Nath Shamblin’s a little while and at Mr. Sheldon Davis’s a little while. I think that is his first name I am not sure. They have a baby boy at their house, came last Saturday night.

 

Mar. 27, They have named him after his father. We were up at Mother’s for dinner. Mary & her children were there also. Dewey & Eddie are working for Mr. Bill Marks to-day.

 

Mar. 31, Wed. rained some to-day, cold and windy this eve, baby is asleep and Dewey has gone up town. Our dog, (Jack) is laying on a chair here beside me and our cat (Robbie), is sitting by the fire.

 

April 1, Thurs. snowed last night. Eddie was here to-day.

April 4, Sun. Easter day. Dewey, baby & I went up to Mr. Frymyers to-day.

 

April 5, Monday. Mother came down this afternoon.

 

April 6, Tues. I set a hen to-day. Hazel is sick to-day. It rained to-day. Mother came down this evening and is going to stay all night with us as Hazel Enid is awfully sick.

 

April 7, Wed. baby is better to-day. Mother went home this afternoon.

 

April 8, Thurs. rained some to-day.

 

April 9, Friday. baby is lots better now. Nice spring morning.

 

April 10, Sat. nice day. I picked a mess of greens to-day.

 

April 11, Sun. rainy most all day.

April 13, Tues. rather chilly, awfully cloudy.

April 16, Friday. Hazel and I were up town to-day. We were at Lucy Perrine’s a little while, also at Tom Bogg’s a few min, and at Vinnie Turner’s a little while. Ena Minney came home with me to stay home all night. To-day is Dewey’s birthday. He is 27 years old.

 

April 17, Sat. nice day. Mother and Mrs. Beatty were here a little while this morning. I sold Mrs. Beatty a hen.

 

April 18, Sunday. snowed last night and this morning, pretty big snow. We went over to Mary’s a little while this eve.

 

April 19, Monday. Snow stayed on the ground all day. My darling baby is 16 months old to-day.

April 22, Thurs. nice day. I washed to-day. We went up town to an entertainment by the smaller grades of the school. it was good.

 

April 23, Friday. rained this morning. Mother was here this afternoon. I am feeling awfully bad. Dewey is running tour on a drilling well over on Laurel Run to-day. It is on John Upton’s place.

 

April 24, Sat. Mother was here to-day. She gathered us a mess of greens, I mean me and herself. Mrs. Shamblin died this morn. Mabel Coonrod came down this evening to stay all night with me.

 

April 25, Sun. Cool day. I have Tonsilitis, and don’t feel a bit well. Mabel went home this evening. They had Mrs. Shamblin’s funeral this evening.

April 30, Fri. lovely day. I washed to-day. Mother was here to-day. Lilly was here a little while also.

 

May 1, Sat. beautiful day.

 

May 2, Sun. nice day. Mary and her children and Mother were here for dinner to-day. We had a nice fat hen for dinner. ha! ha!

 

May 3, Mon. raining this morning. Dewey has gone to work and baby is asleep.

May 5, Wed.

 

May 6, Thurs. I was at Mother’s a little while last eve. Mother was here a little while this evening and made me a kettle of soap.

 

May 7, Friday. Hazel and I were over at the school grounds and watched a basketball game played by the Rosedale girls and the Cedarville girls. Cedarville girls beat. We stopped at Glen Wright’s a few min. to see their new girl baby. They call her Eleanor Josephine.

 

May 8, Sat. baby & I were up home a while this afternoon. Mother went down to Birt’s yesterday evening and Mary is keeping house for her while she is gone.

 

May 9, Sun. We were at Mary’s a little while this evening. We went up to preaching to­night.

 

May 10, Mon. rained some to-day. Mr. Goodman, the driller who works with Eddie on the well they are putting down over on Laurel, got burned pretty badly Sat. morn.

 

May 11, Tues. cool, but nice afternoon.

 

May 12, Wed.

 

May 13, Thurs. Aunt Tuda Carroll visited with me all day. Mother was here a little while this afternoon. We bought us a silver tone phonograph of Everett Perkins. We gave him $30.00 and a watch worth about five $. Eddie helped Dewey bring it down here Tues. or Wed.

 

May 14, Fri. I washed to-day.

May 16, Sun. forgot to say we were up at Mother’s a little while this evening. Father was here to-day.

 

May 17, Mon.

 

May 18, Tues. we fixed our chicken pen to-day and tore down an old hay pen & planted the orchard in beans and corn, and then we went up to the church to an entertainment by the 9th grade of school. It sure was fine.

 

May 19, Wed. rained yesterday evening and to-day. I washed to-day. Hazel Enid is 17 months old to-day.

 

May 20, Thurs. yesterday evening our old Plymouth rock rooster fought our baby and hurt her above the eye and at one corner of her eye and to-day Dewey killed him & Mother came down to-day to help eat him. We had to pen our chickens up Wed. on account of Mr. Martin’s corn down here in the bottom, us and them are not getting along very good. They want to do just as they please.

 

May 21, Fri. forgot to say we went up to the church to an entertainment by the 7th & 8th grade of the school, last Wed. night. It was better than that by the 9th grade.

 

May 22, Sat. I churned to-day. Mrs. Lena Venoy and her five children were here a little while this afternoon, rained some to-day.

 

May 23, Sun. I am feeling awfully bad to-day. Uncle Jim Mace was here for dinner. One of my hens died yesterday. Dewey has gone up to Mr. Frymyer’s to get Goff to cut his hair.

 

May 24, Mon. I was up town this evening and down at Mary’s.

May 29, Sat. nice day. Lilly & her four children and Mother were here for supper. Dewey, Hazel & I went up to Mother’s with them. Orel came back with us to stay all night.

 

May 30, Sunday. Dewey, Baby, Orel & I all went up to Mother’s this morning. We all went up to the graveyard to put flowers on the graves. Dewey & Hazel came home before dinner. I stayed at Mother’s for dinner. Sylvia, Wanda & Maxine and uncle Billy besides Lilly & her four children were there for dinner.

 

May 31, Monday. rained to-day.

June 3, Thurs. Mary, Alvin & little Margaret were here to-day.

June 5, Sat. rained part of day. Eddie was here a little while this morning, baby is asleep. She sure is sweet.

June 13, Sun. Eddie, Mary and their two children, Alvin & Margaret and Mirrel Newell were here a while this afternoon. They all came in Eddie's car. rained this eve.

June 16, Wed. Mother was here a few min. this morning. Her, baby Hazel & I were up at Sylvia’s to-day. We came in Bill Lawson’s car part of the way home. Hazel is sick this evening. My hen hatched seven chickens. I took them of the nest this eve.

June 18, I was up town a few min. yesterday eve.

 

June 19, Sat. Hazel is sick. Dewey took her up to the Dr. this morning. Mother came down and helped me wash to-day.

 

June 20, Sun. We canned 9 qt. of cherries to-day. Baby is no better to-day. She was 18 months old yesterday. We took her over to Dr. Roberts this evening. We were also at Mary’s a few min..

 

June 21, Mon. Aunt Tuda Carroll came down this afternoon, baby is still sick.

 

June 22, Tues. rainy day. I am not feeling very well. baby is some better. I washed some diapers to-day.

June 27, Sun. Dewey had to work over on Laurel on the well on Bill Snodgrasses place. Mother, Hazel and I went over with him. We were at Ira Minney’s a little while. They bought the home farm of father. We were at Mr. Ellis Snodgrasses a little while. Also at Mr. Ab Barton’s and stopped at Mrs. Ferrells a few minutes as we came home.

July 3, Sat. We had two bee swarms to-day. One of them left. We were over at Mary’s a little while this evening.

 

July 4, Sun. Hazel & I went over to Mary’ s this morning, rained some to-day. Mother & Sylvia & her two little girls, Wanda & Maxine, and myself were all there for dinner. Uncle Billy ate dinner with Dewey over at our house. Dewey took some honey from some of our bees to-day. Mother, Sylvia & her children and uncle Billy all came over with us this evening. We loaned uncle Billy $32.00

July 6, Tues. uncle Billy & Sylvia came down to-day and ate dinner with us. We loaned Sylvia & Harley $50.00 to-day.

 

July 7, Wed. uncle Billy stayed all night with us last night.

July 9, Fri. I was up at Mother’s yesterday afternoon.

 

July 10, Sat. Mother came down this morning. Mabel Conrad & Garnet came up after Hazel & I to-day to take us down to Lilly’s. They were here for dinner. It rained and stormed this afternoon. We were at Mr. Fletcher Stout’s store down at Shock when it was storming so. I think Birt has an awfully nice place to live. They live about two miles below Shock.

 

July 11, Sun. I was down at Mr. Tom Conrad’s a little while this morning. Birt and Orel brought us home this afternoon.

 

July 12, Monday. Dewey baby & I were up town this evening. I was at Mary’s a few min. this evening. A show is coming to Rosedale this week. part of it came to-day.

 

July 13, Tues. Dewey and I pulled our onions this morning, baby is asleep now and Dewey is up town.

 

July 14, Wed. Dewey, baby & I went to the show to-night. We were at Mother’s a little while. Her and Mary & Eddie and their children were there. They had moving pictures and vaudavill. The admission fee was 25 ct. and 5 ct. extra for reserved seat.

 

July 15, Thurs. We were at the show again to-night.

 

July 16, Fri. Attended show again.

 

July 17, Sat. Was at the show to-night.

 

July 18, Sun. I was at home all day. Stormed and rained this evening. Father and Sylvia went down to Lilly’s to-day.

 

July 19, Monday. Hazel is 19 months old to-day. I washed this afternoon. We went to the show to-night.

 

July 20, Tues. I ironed to-day. We went to the show again to-night. They had what was called The Passion play. It was about the life and death of Christ. It sure was fine. Altho’ it was sad.

 

July 21, Wed. I am not feeling well to-day. We didn’t go to the show to-night. July 22, Thurs. Awfully hot weather. One of the show women has a little girl baby.

Aug. 1, Sun. Father was here to-day, also uncle Jim Mace. We were over at Mary’s a little while this evening.

 

Aug. 2, Monday. Eddie, Mary and their two children, Alvin and Margaret, and Dewey and myself and our baby, Hazel Enid, started in Eddie’s Ford car on a fishing trip down Steer Creek. We hadn’t went but a short distance till a spring broke and we had to come back and get a new one. Mary & I and the children stayed at Bertie’s till the men got the car fixed. We stopped at Lilly’s a few min.. We went about 8 miles down the creek and camped beside the road.

 

Aug. 3, Tues. rained some to-day and we came home. The boys caught a few fish but gave them away as we hadn’t time to cook them. We got home late this eve, uncle Jim Mace kept house for us while we were gone.

Aug. 22, Sun. We went over to Mary’s this morning and them and us went to Gassaway in their Ford car. We got some ice cream & bananas. We stopped at the ball ground and watched them play ball. Mother and Daddy were there. Mother came down in the car with us.

Aug. 29, Sun. Eddie and Mary & their children came over to our house this morning in their car. We had chicken for dinner, and after dinner we all went up to the ball ground.

Aug. 31, Tues. forgot to say that a show came to town yesterday and we went to the show last night.

 

Sept. 1, Wed. Lilly brought me two bushel of green beans yesterday. I gave her a $1.25 per bu..

 

Sept. 2, Thurs. We went to the show to-night. The name of the show is, The Quillion Family. It is a movie and vaudaville.

Sept. 19, Sun. To-day is Lilly’s and Garnet’s birthday. Lilly is 34 years old and Garnet is 10. Lilly & her four children & Sylvia & her two children , and uncle Billy and Mother were all here for dinner to-day. Mrs. Bess Carr and her little boy, Hobert, and her little girl Helen Ruth & Cotha Frame were all here a little while this evening.

 

Sept. 20, Mon. Dewey went over to Gip this morning to run tour on a drilling well. Hazel and I were up at Mother’s a little while this afternoon.

 

Sept. 21, Tues. baby is asleep now. I was over at Mary’s a few minutes this afternoon.

 

Sept. 22, Wed. I went up to Mother’s this morning and went to the Co. fair at Glenville in Eddie’s car with him & Mr. & Mrs. Beatty. It rained this eve. . Baby & I got home about half past eight to-night or maybe later. I had to milk our cow when I got home. My oh ! but I was tired.

 

Sept. 23, Thurs. I was over at Eddie’s this morning & up at Mother’s a little while. Sept. 24, Friday. I am feeling kinder tough to-day.

Sept. 26, Sun. Dewey came home last night about eleven o’clock. Oh, how I miss my darling husband when he is away. I wish he could stay at home all the time.

 

Sept. 27, Monday. Dewey had to go back over to Gip this morning. Forgot to say we were at Mr. Marks a few minutes yesterday, also were at Mother’s a little while. rainy day.

Oct. 1, Fri. rainy week

 

Oct. 2, Sat Mr. and Mrs. Fred English and two boys, Buster and Acie came here to­night after I had gone to bed. Dewey came home to-night about 2 o’clock.

 

Oct. 3, Sun. Dewey had to go back over to Gip to work to-day. Mr. & Mrs. English and Hazel & I and Buster went for a car ride this afternoon in their S____ car. We all stopped at Mother’s a little while. Then they brought me & Hazel home and they all went up to Mr. Minter Frame’s for supper. They said they would be back here to spend the night. It is 8 o’clock now & I am awfully sleepy. Wish they would hurry and come.

Oct. 5, Tues. Dewey came home to-day.

 

Oct. 6, Wed. Dewey and Fred are doing some squirrel hunting.

 

Oct. 7, Thurs. forgot to say Mother was here Monday afternoon. I forgot which day we were out to Sylvia’s for supper, but I believe it was this evening. I mean, by we, Mr. & Mrs. English, and Dewey and I and the baby.

 

Oct. 8, Friday. We, I mean Fred, Alice, & Acie English and us went down to Lilly’s to­day and ate supper. It was dinner for us tho’. We came back up Tanner.

 

Oct. 9, Sat. I don’t feel very well to-day. Have such a bad cold. We were at Mary’s a little while last night. We were car riding to-night. I was at Mother’s a little while two or three times this week.

 

Oct. 10, Sun. Us and Englishe’s and Eddie, Mary and their two children, and Mother all went to Spencer to-day. We stopped at Arnoldsburg a little while. Fred, Alice, Acie, Dewey and I and our baby went in Fred’s car, and Mother and Buster went with Eddie and Mary. We had a nice time. forgot to say, Mary and Eddie and the children were here last night a little while.

 

Oct. 11, Mon. Fred, Alice and the boys started home this morning. They stayed every night with us.

Oct. 13, Wed. rainy part of the day. Mother was here yesterday. Dewey worked up on two Mile to-day.

Oct. 26, Tues., rained and snowed yesterday. very nice weather to-day. Hazel Enid and I went up to Mother’s to-day, and she went up to uncle Jim Mace’s orchard with us and I gathered several apples.

 

Oct. 27, nice day. Forgot to say Dewey is running tour on a drilling well out on John Upton’s farm. Ed Lynch is his driller. I husked six shocks of corn and baby & I hulled almost half a bushel of walnuts.

Nov. 12, Friday, Hazel & I were up town this evening, uncle Will Carroll is awfully ill. Nov. 13, Sat. uncle Will Carroll died last night. baby & I were up town to-day. We were at Mary’s a little while.

 

Nov. 14, Sun. We were at uncle Will Carroll’s funeral this morning, uncle Jim Mace was here for dinner to-day.

Nov. 16, Tues. we had a bad flood here in Rosedale this morning. The water was in several of the houses. We were up to Mother’s to-day.

Dec. 1.

 

Dec. 18, Sat. This is my birthday. I am 31 years old. Mother was here to-day.

 

Dec. 19, Sun. To-day is my darling baby’s birthday. She is two years old.

 

Dec. 22, baby & I went up town to a Christmas entertainment at the church to-night. Dewey wasn’t there as he had to work.

 

Dec. 24, Friday. has been rainy nearly all week. baby & I were up at Mother’s to-day.

 

Dec. 25, Sat. Christmas day. It has been rainy almost all day. baby & I have been by ourselves since eleven o’clock this morning. Dewey had to work to-day. It sure has been a lonely Christmas for me.

 

Dec. 29, Wed. we were at Mother’s a little while to-day, also at Mary’s. Dec. 31, Friday, last day of 1926.

 

Jan. 1, 1927, Sat. snowed some to-day

 

Jan. 29, Saturday, nice day. Dewey is working over on Laurel to-day. Hazel is asleep. Mother was here 26th and Mary & her children were here the 27th. We were over at her house last Sun. also at Oscar Dobbin’s a little while. Hazel and I were at a funeral the 15th of this mo. It was Frankie and Sterling Hamrick’s funeral. They were husband & wife. There was just two days difference in their deaths. They left 6 children. Ages from one to sixteen I believe.

 

Feb. 11, Friday. Dewey is working to-day. snowed yesterday. and is pretty cold to­day. Mary, and her children were here.

 

Feb. 9, Wed. It certainly was a beautiful day. Sylvia was here a little while to-day. The 9th of Feb. was Macel Wilson’s birthday. I think she was six years old.

 

June 8, 1927, Wed. This has been a lovely day. It has been quite a while since I wrote any in my little book. Mr. Camden Rollyson died since I wrote in this book. Don’t remember the date. Birt and Orel stayed all night with us one night in May. Haven’t seen Lilly or the other three children since last fall. Sylvia and her two children, ate dinner with us the 30 of May and Harley ate supper with us. Well, baby Hazel and I are sleepy so must go to bed. Dewey, my precious husband is working on a well over on the Sammy Carroll place.

 

June 12, Sun. Lilly, Garnet, Macel & Burl Herman came up to Mother’s this morning. Hazel & I went up to Mother’s this afternoon. Sylvia was there a little while. Also, Mary and her children. Macel & Garnet stayed with me last night. Mother, Lilly, Macel, Garnet, Burl, Mary, Margaret, Alvin, Sylvia, Wanda, Maxine and father were all here for dinner to-day. It rained this afternoon. My little sweet daughter is growing so fast. she weighs 28 lb. She says so many cute things.

 

July 3, 1927, Sunday, Dewey, baby & I went down to Lilly’s this evening. They live six miles down Steer Creek. We started after seven o’clock in the evening and got there something after nine. We walked. Rev. Goff Richards was there to-night also.

 

July 4, Dewey came home this morning. Birt caught a mess of fish to-day.

 

July 5, Tues. Birt brought Hazel Enid & I home on his horse this morning. We had a nice visit.

 

July 10, Sunday, Hazel and I were at Sunday school and preaching to-day. Rev. Carder, and his wife and their four children, Raymond, Lee, Wanita, & Betty June and mother were all here for dinner.

 

July 14, Thurs. Dewey & I were both awfully sick last night. We are not feeling well to­day. Hazel Enid is asleep on the floor.

 

July 26, Hazel & I were out at Sylvia’s to-day. Sylvia is sick.

 

July 28, Thurs. made a kettle of soap yesterday. Dewey went fishing to-day & caught a pike 18 in. long & a bass 12 in. That is his first pike & he was sure proud of it. It is dark now & baby Hazel is asleep on the bed & Dewey is frying the fish. I am tired for I washed to-day besides doing a lot of other work. I picked a nice lot of cucumbers this evening.

 

July 31, Sunday, rainy most all day. Water up pretty High. Hazel Enid & I were up at Sunday school. Dewey went out to Bert Brady’s and got us a little pup a little over a month old. He is black & we are going to call him Jack. Dewey gave 50 cents for him.

 

Aug. 3, Wed. Has been rainy nearly all day. Little Charles Frame died in the hospital yesterday. Dewey, Hazel & I were down at Mr. T. V. Shock’s for dinner yesterday. Dewey went to rob Mr. Shock’s bees. He got quite a few stings.

 

Aug. 12, Friday. I am not feeling well to-day. Mother, Lilly, Macel, Garnet, and Burl Herman, Mary & Margaret, and Alvin were all here for dinner to-day. Macel stayed here last night. Sylvia was here a little while yesterday. Dewey is up town, Hazel is sitting on the floor by me looking at a seed book. Mother went home with Lilly. I am sleepy so am going to bed.

 

Aug. 15, Monday. Dewey is down at Birt’s. I had Raymond Perkins to cut my hair to­day. It is the first time I ever had my hair cut. Mary had her hair cut this evening. I was at Mary’s for dinner. Of course my little girlie was with me. We were at Mother’s a little while also at Rev. Carder’s a little while.

 

Aug. 17, Wed. It is raining to-day. Dewey & Eddie has gone fishing. I washed mine & Hazel’s heads this morning. Well I must get to work it is four o’clock. Oh, yes, forgot to say Jackson show came in Monday. We were at the show last night. It was 35 cents admittance for adults.

 

Aug. 28, Sun. The show has gone. I went six times in all. Dewey went five times. The show stayed two weeks. Hazel & I were at Sunday school to-day. Eddie, Mary, Alvin, & Margaret, Dewey Hazel & I all went down to Lilly’s right after Sunday school. We went in Eddie’s car. We all ate dinner at Lilly’s. They had fish for dinner.

 

Sept. 1, Thurs. Mother was here to-day. baby & I went over to Mary’s with her. Then on up home with her.

 

Sept. 4, Sun. Dewey, Hazel & I went up to Harley’s this morning. Mary, Eddie & the children came up this afternoon. We all came back together. All dry weather now, need rain bad.

 

Sept. 23, 1927 Friday We are having beautiful weather but the nights and mornings are awfully chilly. Hazel & I ate supper at Rev. Carder’s Tuesday night. Sister Mary and her children were here for dinner Wednesday. We were up town yesterday. Dewey is working on a well over on Mr. White’s farm on crooked fork. I think it is. He is working with Shirley Turner. They went over there to work last Monday a week the 4th of Sept. Dewey came home last Sunday morning and stayed till Monday.

 

Oct. 5, lovely day. Dewey got done the well he was working on and came home Monday (Oct. 3) He is digging potatoes to-day.

 

Oct. 24, Monday. lovely day. Our cow, (White face) had a calf to-day. It is a heifer. Dewey went down to Shock and payed our taxes this morning. Hazel & I went up town this morning and got uncle Jim Mace to look at our cow. He gave Hazel an apple. Mother helped Vinnie Turner make kraut to-day. Shirley Turner has a bossing job down in Boone Co. Coal River, Seth is the name of the town. I think they are going to move down there. I hate to see them leave Rosedale. Dewey, baby and I were over at Mary’s for dinner yesterday. We rode up town in Eddie’s car. We stopped at mother’s a little while. We stopped at uncle Jim Mace’s farm and he gave us some milk. We were at Harrison Frymyer’s a little while. Sylvia & Wanda and Maxine were there. Dewey has been sick for a long time. something like flu. He is well now and able to work.

 

Oct. 28, Friday, Lovely day. Dewey is working for Clarence Engle to-day. Mother was here for dinner yesterday. Dewey buried our potatoes day before yesterday. Eddie was here to get his hair cut that day. baby and I were up at Mrs. Vinnie Turners last evening. Mrs. Thirsa Perkins and her two sons, Lot, & John, and her two daughters, Ola and Lovie, and Lovie’s husband, James Lee Bergdorf and their little son. baby Hazel and I were at Prayer meeting last night. Mr. Westfall is our preacher now. Hazel is out in the yard playing. I want ans. sister Lilly’s letter that I got last night.

 

Nov. 1, Tuesday. nice day. Dewey Hazel & I and Mary, Alvin & Margaret were all at Mother’s for dinner last Sunday. all mentioned except Dewey, were at Sunday school. Dewey worked yesterday and is working to-day. The calf is looking fine. Hazel is standing by the bed looking at the catalog.

 

Nov. 6, Sunday. Dewey, Hazel Enid and I were up at Sylvia’s to-day. We stopped at Mother’s a few min. as we came home. Hazel & I both have colds.

 

Nov. 8, Tues. snowed some last night. raining to-day.

 

Nov. 9, Wed. Dewey has been getting to work regular this month. He is going to work on a well over on Mr. Ab Barton’s farm. They are going to begin to-night. French Stalnaker is Dewey’s driller. Red Warner, and Jesse Rose are the other two who are going to work on it. I think Hazel is sleepy as she is wanting on my lap. So I must quit writing and rock my baby to sleep.

 

Nov. 13, Sun. Hazel & I were at Sunday school and preaching this morning. Dewey, Hazel & I were at Mother’s a few min. and at Mary’s this afternoon.

 

Nov. 14, Mon. Vinnie, Carroll and Suzan Turner and aunt Tuda Carroll left Rosedale to-day. They moved down in Boone Co. where Shirley Turner is working. I churned and made a cake to-day.

 

Nov. 15, Tues. lovely day. Hazel and I went as far as Mr. Frymyer’s with Dewey this morning when he went to work and ate dinner at Mr. Frymyer’s then we went up to the well where Dewey is working we had a fine time. We stopped at mother’s a few minutes as we came back.

 

Nov. 16, Wed. I washed this afternoon. Birt was here a while this morning and brought me some cabbage. Ena Minney & Straud Allen were here a while to-night.

Nov. 20, Sun. Hazel Enid & I were at Sunday school this morning, uncle Jim Mace was here for dinner. French Stalnaker was here a little while this afternoon.

 

Nov. 22. Tues. Harley Reeder and Judson Pitsinger butchered our hog this afternoon.

 

Nov. 23, Wed. Harley Reeder was here a little while to-day to borrow some money. I went over to Mary’s this morning and borrowed her sausage mill. I made my sausage and fried it and canned it up, rendered my lard besides a lot of other work to-day.

 

Nov. 24, Thurs. I washed to-day. It rained some. It is a quarter past eight o’clock. My little daughter is in bed asleep. I am tired and sleepy myself.

 

Nov. 26, Sat. Mary Westfall , my sister Mary Meadows and her children, Margaret and Alvin, were here for dinner to-day.

 

Nov. 28, Mon. Mother was here to-day.

 

Nov. 29, Tues. French Stalnaker was here this afternoon and stayed for supper. I got my Kodak I ordered, last Saturday night. We took some pictures to-day. My Kodak is an eastman.

 

Dec. 3, Sat. cold day. Hazel and I went up town with Dewey to-night, and stayed at Mother’s a little while.

 

Dec. 4, Sun. Hazel and I went to Sunday school to-day. Then Dewey and us went down to Mary’s for dinner. Hazel and I stopped at Filmore Westfall’s a little while.

 

Dec. 5, Mon. to-day is little Beryl Herman Wilson’s birthday. He is three years old. Dec. 6, Tues. Dewey & French finished the well over on Laurel to-day.

 

Dec. 7, Wed. Dewey & French went to the Furr Farm about 10 or 12 miles down Steer Creek, to work on a well. I really don’t know just how far it is. I was just guessing at it. Hazel & I went up town to-day. We were at Mary’s a little while, we ate dinner at Mother’s. Then Hazel, Mother & I went out to aunt Julia Rider’s to the ladies Aid meeting. Had a nice time.

 

Dec. 8, cold and windy. I washed to-day.

 

Dec. 9, Fri., cold day. no one here but baby Hazel and I. We are sitting by the fire & she is sitting on my lap.

 

Dec. 10, Sat. Dewey came home to-night about 8 o’clock.

 

Dec. 11, Sun. raining to-day. Dewey started back to work this afternoon about three o’clock.

 

Dec. 14, Wed. baby and I were up town a little while this evening has been rainy and warm nearly all week.

 

Dec. 15, Thurs. Hazel and I were over at Mary’s this afternoon. Eddie was over here this morning after buttermilk. My sister Lilly, gave birth to another son some time to­day. This is Birt’s birthday also. Don’t know exactly how old he is 41 or 42 tho’ I think. Frank Adams died to-day.

 

Dec. 16, Fri. It is pouring the snow down this morning. It will be a bad day for the funeral.

 

Dec. 17, Sat., Hazel and I were up town a little while to-day.

 

Dec. 18, Sun. cold windy day. Hazel Enid and I were up to Sunday school this morning. Dewey came home about noon to-day. He rode Birt’s horse. Dewey was about frozen when he got here. Raymon Perkins was here this eve to pay of a $200.00 note he owed us for borrowed money. He cut my hair. To-day is my birthday.

 

Dec. 19, Mon. another cold morning. Dewey started back to his work about 7 o’clock this morning. Mother came down and helped me dress 24 head of chickens 22 hens and two roosters. I took up one load and got Mirrel Newell to come down and get the rest of them. I gave him a quarter for coming. the chickens came to $15.53. they weighed 87 - lb. 13 oz. I sold them to Harley Carroll. Mother stayed with Hazel till I came back. To-day is Hazel’s birthday. She is three years old.

 

Dec. 20, cold day, snowed some.

 

Dec. 22, Thurs. Hazel & I were up town to-day. They are going to have a Christmas tree at the church to-night, baby & I will not get to go as I am not feeling well.

 

Dec. 25, Sunday, Christmas day. Dewey came home yesterday evening. We took some pictures to-day.

 

Dec. 26, Mon. Dewey started to his work again this morning.

 

Dec. 29, Thurs. Hazel & I were up town to-day. We ate dinner at Mother’s. Rained some to-day.

 

Dec. 30, Friday. Mary and Alvin a few min. this morning to get some buttermilk. Hazel is playing by the fire.

 

Jan. 1,1928, Sun. (new years’ day) very cold & windy. Hazel & I were at home all day by ourselves. My! how lonely I have been to-day.

 

Jan. 2, Mon. Dewey came home to-day. They got an oil well where he was working. Jan. 10, Tues. To-day is my father’s birthday. He is 66 years old. Dewey has been home a little over a week now.

 

Jan. 11, Wed. Dewey went over to Mr. C. F. Engel’s this evening to lay some line.

 

Jan. 12, Thurs. Hazel and I were up at mother’s a few minutes to-day. I took up the rest of my black walnuts to ship. We were also down at Mary’s a little while. Some body carried one of our bee gums up the road and robbed it last night. of course the bees died.

 

Jan. 14, Sat. We have been having warm weather for several days now. Mary, and her two children, Alvin, and Margaret were here to-day, also Bella Beatty. Bella came to buy some dried apples. Dewey came home to-night.

 

Jan. 15, Sun. My father came down to-day, uncle Jim Mace was here a little while. Dewey had to go back over to Mr. Engel’s this afternoon. He is going to work on a well over near Mr. Engel’s. He will board there. I was up at Mother’s a few min. after a flashlight for Dewey.

 

Jan. 16, Mon. Lovely day, looks like spring weather. My little daughter is out playing. My hens are beginning to lay good now. I got six eggs yesterday. I have 29 hens and two roosters.

 

Jan. 18, Wed. mother was here yesterday.

 

Jan. 19, Thurs. rained all day almost. Dewey came home to-day.

 

Jan. 20, Friday. Dewey had to go on yon side of Frametown to work on a well. I don’t know how long he will be gone.

Feb. 1, Wed Hazel and I were up at Mr. Frank Martin’s this afternoon to a ladies aid meeting. I joined the Ladies Aid Society to-day.

 

Feb. 2, Thurs. We were at mother’s a little while this afternoon. Forgot to say Birt Wilson and Ralph Perrine were here last Sun. for dinner

 

Feb. 4, Sat. Eddie was here a little while this morning. Harley Reeder was here this evening and ate supper with us.

 

Feb. 5, Sun. we were over at Eddie’s to-day.

 

Feb. 6, Mon. we went up to Sylvia’s to-day. Had a nice time. Sylvia was in town when we got up to mother’s and she carried Hazel up to her home on her horse Madge. Eddie was at Harley’s a little while while we were there. We all moved Harley’s corn and hunted for rats. We killed fourteen rats, and one mouse. Raymon Perkins helped us some.

 

Feb. 12, Sun. we were over at Mary’s a little while this afternoon. We stopped at Raymon Perkins a few min. as we came home. forgot to say we ate supper at Oscar Dobbins (Feb. 5, Sun).

 

Feb. 13, Mon. Mirrell Newell ate supper with us this evening.

 

Feb. 15, Wed. we washed to-day. Eddie and Harley were here a while this evening. Harley got a setting of eggs. We are having dark gloomy weather.

 

Feb. 16, Thurs. rained and snowed some this morning.

 

Feb. 18, Sat. Stormy and snowy day. Sylvia, Wanda and Maxine came down this evening. They are going to stay all night with us. They stayed all night with mother last night. The meter blowed up, up here in town and they didn’t have any gas up at their house, so they came to town. uncle Billy is going to stay up at father’s to-night.

 

Feb. 19, Sun still snowing to-day. uncle Billy came down to-day. also Harley was here for dinner. They all went home this evening. Last Fri night the state police and the constable and another officer of some kind came to Rosedale and made a raid on the toughs of Rosedale. They took Cramer Shamblin, Stanley Turner, Cecil Jarvis, Ace Carr, and Earl Stover out with them. The two last named do not belong to Rosedale. There has been a lot of drinking and rowdying in town lately. I guess this will stop it.

 

Feb. 20, Mon cold and windy, snowed some.

 

Feb. 28, Tues. rather nice day. Dewey went down to the Furr farm to work on a well. He started this morning. Mother was here to-day. Eddie was here after some buttermilk. We all have bad colds.

 

Mar. 3, Sat. Hazel and I were up at dad’s a little while also at Bertie King’s a few min. Mary & the children were there. Eddie started to Parkersburg to try to get work to-day.

 

Mar. 4, Sun. Dewey came home last night. left again this afternoon.

 

Mar. 5, Monday, nice day, Mary and the children came down this morning. Sylvia came down about noon. They have all gone now. It is after 3 o’clock. I made a lettuce bed a little while ago. Haven’t sowed the seed yet. I wish my hens would go to setting. I would like to have some early chickens.

 

Mar. 10, Sat. Hazel and I were up town this afternoon, we were at Mary’s a little while also.

 

Mar. 11, Sun. Dewey came home this morning. He rode Birt’s horse up.

 

Mar. 12, Mon. Dewey started back to work this morning about 7 o’clock. Hazel and I were up at daddy’s a few min. this evening.

Mar. 14, Wed. mother came down this afternoon.

 

Mar. 15, Thurs. Mary, Alvin and Margaret were here to-day. I am not feeling a bit well to-day. Have such a headache.

 

Mar. 17, Sat. rained yesterday, snowing to-day. Hazel and I went up town this afternoon. I took up 7 doz. eggs.

 

Mar. 18, Sun. still snowing. This is the deepest snow we have had this winter. Snow must be about 18 inches at least. Dewey hasn’t come home yet and I am awfully lonesome without him. Hazel and I are here all alone. I am not feeling very well.

 

Mar. 19, Mon. well Dewey didn’t get to come home yesterday.

 

Mar. 23, Friday, Dewey came home to-night. he rode (Tony), Birt’s horse. I was at Mary’s and Mother’s to-day. of course Hazel Enid was with me.

 

Mar. 24, Sat. Mary and her children came over this morning. Mary & I went over to her house and got her soiled clothes and some pies she had baked. we washed at my house this afternoon. Mary & the children are going to stay all night. Sylvia was here a few min.. this afternoon.

 

Mar. 25, Sun. nice day. Hazel and I rode Tony down to Birt’s this afternoon. Dewey came down this evening about dark. Mary is going to keep house for me.

 

Mar. 26, Mon. nice day. Birt brought Hazel and I home this afternoon. Dewey went on down to his work early this morning.

 

Mar. 27, Tues. Hazel and I were at Mother’s a few min.. this afternoon. Mar. 28, Wed. Hazel and I went up to meeting this morning.

 

Mar. 29, Thurs. Dewey came home this morning. They finished the well. It was an oil well. The meeting closed last night. They didn’t have a very good meeting.

 

Mar. 30, Friday ,rainy day. I picked a mess of greens yesterday. They were fine.

 

April 1, Sun. we, I mean Hazel and I were up at Sylvia’s to-day. Had a nice time, we stopped at mother’s a little while.

 

April 2, Mary was here a little while to-day. also Bertie King and her little girl Marie,  and Mrs. Beatty.

 

Apr. 3, Tues. uncle Jim Mace was here for dinner. Dewey took out some honey to­day. I took mother up 2 lb. of honey this afternoon. Sylvia was here a little while to­day.

 

Apr. 4, Wed. Ethel Shamblin and her two little sons, Leonard, and Paris Junior were here to-day. I washed to-day.

 

Apr. 5, Thurs. Everette Perkins plowed our garden this morning. He charged us $2.50. Dewey and I planted our potatoes this afternoon.

 

Apr. 6, Friday. We planted our peas to-day also our tomatoes, cabbage, and radish and lettuce seed to-day. Bertie & Marie were here this morning. Bertie & I went and picked a mess of greens. Mary, Alvin and Margaret were here for dinner.

 

Apr. 7, Sat. rained to-day. Sylvia was here a little while to-day. Hazel and I went up town this afternoon and taken up 6 doz. eggs. Will Frymyer was here for supper. Harold Reeder was here a little while.

 

Apr. 8, Easter Sunday. Dewey, Hazel and I went up to Mr. Frymyer’s to-day. Awfully chilly. Forgot to say Mr. & Mrs. Marshall were here a little while last Friday evening. Mr. Marshall was here a little while Saturday also.

 

April 9, Monday, frosted last night. still cold and cloudy to-day. The plum trees, pear trees and part of the peach trees are in bloom. Dewey is working on the road to-day.

 

April 14, Sat. Birt came up this evening. He is going to stay with us to-night.

 

April 15, Sunday. Hazel & I were at Sunday school this morning. us and Dewey & Birt & Mary and her two children all ate dinner at dad’s to-day. Mother was at my house a little while last Friday. also a little while Sat. Mrs. Hawkins was with her Saturday. They had been gathering greens.

 

April 16, Mon. very nice day. Dewey made me a beet ridge and set out my little onion sets. To-day is Dewey’s birthday. He is 29 years old.

 

April 17, Tues. rained to-day. Dewey took our calf, Pet, up to Harley’s to put her in pasture. Mary & the children were here to-day.

 

April 21, Sat. we were up town to-day. rained, forgot to say, Dewey, Hazel Enid & I were over at the school house yesterday and watched the basket ball game between the Rosedale school and Normantown. It was a fine game. We went up to Mary’s a little while after the game was over. Mother went up there a while also. Then we all went up to Mother’s.

 

April 22, Sun. rainy most all day. we went over to Mary’s a little while this afternoon. Mother was there also.

 

April 23, Monday, rained to-day. My, I have an awful cold.

 

April 24, Tues. rained some. little brown hen hatched to-day.

April 27, Friday, rained and snowed to-day. Hazel is playing. Dewey has gone up town.

 

April 29, Sun. Hazel & I were at Sunday school to-day. mother, Mary, Alvin, Margaret, Sylvia, Wanda & Maxine were all there. We were all at Dad’s for dinner. Dewey was there to. It snowed awfully hard Friday and so we had a pretty big snow. We have a big tide this evening. Dewey, Hazel and I went back up town this eve, to see the water.

 

April 30, Mon. Mary, and her two children were here to-day. Mary and I washed. She did most of it.

 

May 1, Tues. Dewey started away to work this evening. Hazel Enid and I were up town this evening. I got my new spring coat. I like it awfully well. It cost $8.15. It is a dark tan.

 

May 2, Wed. lovely day. We went to the Ladies Aid this afternoon at Rev. Homer Westfalls. Had a nice time.

 

May 3, lovely day. I planted some cucumber seed and some bunch beans. Forgot to say Mary, and her children and Mother went up to Sylvia’s yesterday.

May 6, Sun. Dewey came home last night. Mother, father, Mary and her children were all here for dinner to-day. I had my first mess of lettuce for this year, to-day. Mary and the children are going to stay all night with me to-night.

 

May 7, Mon. Dewey, Hazel & I went over home with Mary this morning. We, Dewey & I, helped her to pack her stuff to move to Parkersburg. Dewey went down to the Furr farm to work to-day.

 

May 8, Tues. I washed to-day. Hazel and I went up to mother’s a little while. Sylvia came down while I was there, said she was going to stay all night there.

 

May 9, Wed. we are having lovely weather. We need some rain.

 

May 10, Thurs. I was up town last evening, of course my darling little daughter was with me. Mary got a letter from Eddie saying he was sick. She started to Parkersburg this morning. She didn’t take any furniture, just a suitcase. John Upton took them.

May 12, Sat. we were up town to-day.

 

May 13, Sun. Dewey came home last night. Dewey, Hazel and I were at Orvin Shamblin’s to-day for dinner. Dewey took their pictures.

 

May 14, Monday Dewey started back to work this morning. He got to go in Jess Snodgrasses car. One of Langy Moyer’s boy’s got killed to-day by a tree falling on him.

 

May 15, Tues. baby and I went up town to-day also were up at Mr. Frymyer’s for dinner.

 

May 16, Wed. Will Frymyer came and plowed and planted our corn patches to-day. I saw some gipsy’s up in town yesterday. I am awfully tired to-night.

 

May 19, Sat. Dewey came home to-night.

 

May 20, Sun. Hazel and I were at Sunday school.

 

May 21, Mon. Dewey went back to work to-day. Hazel and I went up town.

 

May 22, Tues. Hazel and I went up to the church to-night to a play given by the school. The name of it was “Little Miss Jack”, It was pretty good.

 

May 22, Wed. Mother came down this afternoon. Harold Pittsinger died last night. Hazel was sick yesterday, and I took her to the Dr’s. It was her stomach he said.

 

May 24, Thurs. I washed to-day. Dewey came home this evening. May 25, Friday. rainy day. Harley Reeder was here to-day.

 

May 26, Sat. nice day. I went over to the Dr. to-day. I am sick. I had bad luck this morning. Was about a month gone the Dr. said. Dewey is hoeing in the garden. I want to write a letter to Mary.

 

May 27, Sun. mother was here a little while to-day.

 

May 28, Mon. uncle Jim Mace was here a little while to-day.

 

May 29, Tues. Dewey had to go over to Mr. C.F. Engel’s to-day to work. Sylvia was here a little while this evening.

 

May 30, Wed. rained and hailed to-day.

 

May 31, Thursday Mr. Charles Martin came down to see if we were all right to-day. June 1, Friday mother came down to-day. rained a little bit. I am feeling pretty well now. Hazel is playing out on the porch. We had a bee swarm to-day. It is the first we have had this year. I went up town and got uncle Jim Mace to come down and hive it for me.

 

June 2, Sat. My sister Lilly came up to-day. She brought her girls Garnet and Macel and her two little boys Burl Herman and Arden Hall. Orel Dean stayed at home. Birt brought them up on the horses. Then he took them back. Lilly and her four children and me and Hazel Enid all went up to Mother’s. Hazel and I didn’t stay long. We came back to watch our bees. Dewey came home this evening. Macel and Garnet are going to stay all night with me.

 

June 3, Sun. Lilly and her two little boys & Mother, Sylvia, and Wanda & Maxine and Birt and Orel Dean were all here for dinner to-day. Dewey had to go back to work this evening.

 

June 4, Monday dark & cloudy, been raining some to-day. Hazel has been sick to­day. forgot to say Dr. Robert’s wife, Alma, has a baby boy. Don’t know just what day it was born.

 

June 6, Wed. rainy day. The Ladies Aid society met here to-day. There were the following people here to-day; Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Charles Martin, Mrs. Stalnaker, Mrs. Westfall, Mrs. Bee Bourn, and her mother Mrs. Swisher. Jr. Stalnaker, Joe Wright, and Carroll Westfall, and my mother.

 

June 7, Thurs. Hazel Enid and I were up town to-day.

 

June 9, Sat. Dewey came home this evening. It rained and hailed to-day. I washed to-day and went up to Mr. John Frame’s a little while to call Dewey on the telephone.

 

June 10, Sun. Hazel and I were at Sunday school and preaching to-day. We had a bee swarm to-day.

 

June 11, Monday. I went up to John Frame’s to see if Dewey had called in but he hadn’t. He came in home this evening.

 

June 13, Wed. Dewey went back to work to-day.

 

June 14, Thurs. Will Frymyer came down to-day and hoed the corn in our upper garden. Dewey was here for dinner. He rode Mr. C. F. Engel’s saddle horse over to see about some business for Mr. Engel. Rained and Will went home.

 

June 15, Friday. Will came down and hoed corn for us to-day. I washed and hoed in the garden.

 

June 16, Sat. Dewey came home this evening. We went up town this evening.

 

June 17, Sun. nice day. Dewey went back to work this evening.

 

June 18, Monday. rained to-day. We, Hazel and I, went up to dad’s this evening.

 

June 19, Tues. rainy day. I washed to-day.

 

June 20, Wed.

 

June 21, Thurs. I hoed in the garden to-day. Dewey came home this evening. They finished the well he was working on. It was a gas well. We went up town this evening.

 

June 22, Fri. we went up town again this evening. Dewey and I finished hoeing our garden this eve.

 

June 23, Sat. we were up town again to-day.

 

June 24, Sun. John Upton and father started to Parkersburg to bring Mary and her children home. It rained to-day. We went up town this evening. Dad and John didn’t get back this evening so Hazel and I are going to stay all night with mother and Dewey will stay at home.

 

June 25, Mon. rained some to-day. Dewey started to Lem’s Run this evening to work on another well. I went down and milked the cow and fed my chickens and then came back to stay with mother. Dad, John, Mary & the children got home to-night between eleven and twelve o’clock.

 

June 26, Tues. I came home this morning.

 

June 27, Wed. Mother was here a little while to-day. Hazel and I were up town a little while this evening.

 

June 28, Thurs. lovely day.
