During the Civil War, Nancy helped the soldiers that came through the area. She would feed them and wash their clothes for them. She boiled the clothes and made the men
take hot baths with lye soap because they had body lice, etc. The house that they lived in (the Parker-Hickman Homestead) became a hospital of sorts for the soldiers.
