John Mason Estate Inventory, 1756

Copied from the original in the State Archives in Raleigh, NC  and transcribed by Melanie Willis on February 12, 2005.

About the documents

  • There were two smallish papers in the estate folder of John Mason.  One is an estate inventory and the other is another sort of inventory, written on two sides of a small piece of paper, labeled “Acct. of Jo. Mason Estate in possession of Nath Tuley”.
  • An odd note on the main estate inventory—It’s dated November 4th, 1756, but was “proved in court and allowed June 4th, 1756
  • The actual listing of items in the main estate inventory is written in three columns, sometimes with more than one item in the same space.

I have retained as closely as possible the spelling, grammar and punctuation of the original, making small corrections only for the sake of clarity.  I put the inventory in table form, similar to the original.
