He married MARTHA IVEY (IVY) Abt. 1795 in South Carolina, daughter of NATHAN IVEY and WINIFRED UNKNOWN. She was born 1774 in Virginia, and died Bef. December 24, 1854 in Fayette Co., Georgia.

Notes for G
REEN BERRY HILL:
Some researchers believe that Green B. Hill may have been from a family from the Surry Co., NC area, though nothing of this has been proven. This belief is largely based on the will of Green B. Hill's son William. Green B. Hill's wife Martha Ivey did live with her family in Surry Co., NC about 1783, just prior to her father's move to Pendleton Dist., SC. Other researchers believe that Green B. Hill may be the son of a Hill family that lived in the Pendleton area of SC around 1790. This is the subject of much ongoing research. He appeared on the census of 1800 at Pendleton Dist., SC. They lived at Franklin Co., GA circa 1805. They lived at (Old) Randolph Co., now Jasper Co., GA, in 1812. Green B. Hill began military service on Aug. 7, 1814 while living at jasper Co., GA. He signed for six months service in the Creek War ( war against the Creek Indians), as a drummer in Capt. Leonard Worthy's company, Georgia Militia, and was discharged at Ft. Hawkins for disability that ended his military service on Nov 6, 1814. He did not appear on the census of 1820 at Jasper Co., GA, and it is said by employees of GA State Archives that the Jasper Co. Census of 1820 failed to cover a certain area of that county, and a number of families, including Green B. Hill, are missing. He and Martha Ivey appeared on the census of 1830 at Jasper Co., Ga. He and Martha Ivey appeared on the census of 1840 and 1850 at Fayette Co., GA. For his prior military service, on Apr 16, 1851 Green B. Hill was issued bounty land at Randolph Co., Al. They lived at Randolph Co., Al., where Green B. Hill's son Martin had previously established himself as a Baptist Minister. Green B. Hill applied for bounty land again on Mar 31, 1855 as a result of the Federal Land Act approved on the previous March 3rd, and was rewarded land in Iowa, which he sold very shortly thereafter. Generation No. 2

2. ?2 HILL (GREEN BERRY1) was born Abt. 1796 in South Carolina. He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for
? HILL:
He is the subject of much speculation and several theories. We know that the children of this person, John Henry hill and Benjamin Hill, are related to Green B. Hill. It is conclusive that they are either the children or grandchildren of Green B. Hill, likely the latter. Family traditions have been distorted over time leading to four theories, one being that the children of this Unkown HILL are actually the children of Green B. Hill and an Indian woman. Another theory claims that they are the children oh Green B. Hill's daughter Mary through her unmarried relationship with an Indian man. Another theory is that Mary Hill, listed as a daughter of Green B. Hill was actually the Indian widow of one unknown son of Green B. Hill ( claims of Indian ancestry by descendants of this branch of the family are likely to be true because of genetic characteristics prevalent in the line), and another theory is that the children of this unknown HILL may belong to Burton B. Hill and Nancy Morgan, married in Jasper Co., Georgia in 1819.

Notes for I
VY HILL:
Ivy Hill, son of Green Berry Hill and Martha Ivie Hill, was born the 6th of November 1810, in Randolph (now Jasper) County, Georgia. Ivy grew up in Jasper County, where he fell for Miss Lucy Jones.
It seems the feeling was mutual, but legend tells us there was difficulty. The Jones were of Methodist religion and had large slave holdings, while the Hills were of Baptist faith and didn't believe in slavery.
Lucy, daughter of William Jones and Emelia Hurd (Patterson) Jones, slipped away from her home and joined the Baptist Church, because she wanted to marry Ivy. She was almost disinherited for this act against her family. However, a forgiving father and mother accepted it, when Justice of the Peace, Elisha G. Crawford, read the marriage rites for Ivy Hill and Lucy Jones on the 27th day of October, 1830.
Lucy's father gave her some slaves as a wedding gift, but her new husband was adamant in his belief and refused the gift of slaves for his household.
Ivy and Lucy moved from Jasper County, Georgia in January of 1835, going across to Fayette County, Georgia, to a place about 30 miles southeast from Atlanta. They remained in Fayette County until 1848, when they then continued the trip westward moving to Randolph County, Alabama. They lived in the part of Randolph County that later became Cleburne County, Alabama.
In the fall of 1870, a caravan of families, led by an able leader and overseer, Ivy Hill, left Cleburne County, Alabama. Among those families were several of Ivy and Lucy's children. The caravan of wagons, drawn by horses and mules, moved westward across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and into Cass County, Texas arriving December the 1st, 1870.
They bought land thick with pine trees that had to be cleared before crops could be planted. Several sawmills in the area were beneficial to them during this time.
Lucy Hill seems to be remembered as the community doctor. She always had her little medicine bag and went about on an old mule when called to aid those in need.
Ivy hill died in Cass County, Texas the 22nd day of August, 1886, just 76 days shy of his 76th birthday.
Lucy did very well without the aid of the slaves offered when she married Ivy Hill, for she had 18 children, in addition to all other hardships during those pioneering years. She was born the 3rd of June, 1813, in Jasper County, Georgia and died the 16th day of June, 1900, in Cass county, Texas at age 87.
Both Ivy and Lucy are buried in the Watson Cemetery, located near the place where they settled in Cass County Texas, now the Huffines Community.

Tombstone Inscriptions:

Ivy….. "What to me is life without thee -
Darkness and despair - alone -
When with sighs we seek to find thee
This tomb proclaims that thou art gone"

Lucy "She was a good
Christian Woman"
