---- For most of 30 years, I have researched the Winner Family of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.Much is yet to be ascertained and with the help of many others, it is slowly but surely being recorded by me and others who are also researching the many Winner Families...from New Jersey, Pa., and with branches into Ohio, Indiana, and many other states. All seem to have orginated from the New Jersey, Pa area. ---- My branch came from near Williamsport, Pa when Joseph Lloyd Winnerb. 1836, first son of Ellis Winner, moved to North Carolina around 1870 after serving in the Union Forces during the Civil War.Although he was discharged due to health reasons, he served his time at Camp Parol, Md. during the War years working his trade as watchmaker and photographer. His first born, a daughter, Elma Purola Winner was born May 1, 1864 in Camp Parol, Md. ---- After the war, he returned to Shickshinney, Pa., but in 1870, moved south to a warmer climate due to this health.. He first went to Elizabeth City, NC for a few years, then to Edenton, then to Washington, NC each time operating a jewelry and photographic shop. Then, in 1879, he moved to Wilmington, NC sitting up a shop there, too. He soon purchased land on what is now Carolina Beach, NC ---- Joseph's father, Ellis Winner had another son by his first wife in 1838, but she died in 1939.Ellis remarried in 1840, had 9 more children by her, and in 1864 moved to Bucyrus, Ohio where he resided until his death in 1901.He is buried with his wife in a Quaker Cemetary just north of town.To this day,I am still looking for descendants of Ellis Winner. ---- Now, every year, usually in July, the Winner's hold a family reunion bringing various branches of the Winner families together that orginated from the Williamsport,Pa area. ---- I would be pleased to hear from anyone wanting information, or can extend out any of the many branches listed thus far in the Winner Family Tree. Please contact me.
