The very sad news was spread around town this morning of the sudden death of Mrs R McMillan. Mrs McMillan gave birth around midnight to a son, and apparently both mother and baby were doing well. About six oclock this morning, however, Mrs McMillan was seized with violent spasms. Mr MacAndrew was immediately in attendance, but although everything possible was done, within an hour the patient has passed away. The blow is a very serious one to her husband,who is left with a family of eight children. the eldest about twelve.

Mrs McMillan, who was about 35 years of age, was known to a large circle of friends in the Kumara and Hokitika districts. She was an excellent wife and mother with a heartiness and cheeriness that won the friendship with whom she was brought in contact. The sincerest sympathy is expressed with the bereaved husband, and the news of the death caused a gloom in town that day.
