Taylor County was formed in 1852 from Talbot, Marion and Macon Counties with the area between the Flint River and the Patsiliga Creek being added from Crawford County in 1854. There have only been minor boundry changes since.

Our families migrated to the area of Georgia now known as Taylor County in the 1800's.

The Windham's (John, b. 1784 m. Elizabeth James) settled around Francisville in Crawford County in the 1820's, later moving to the area known as the "New Agency" after the Indian treaty opened the land west of the Flint River in 1827. This area is now known as the "Crowell Community."

The Nelson's (Nathan, b. 1826 m. Martha Maddox) migrated to the area, closer to the town of Reynolds, known as "The Panhandle" about 1855 and some of the family still lives on the land originally purchased.

Some members of our ancestors' families stayed in the area while others migrated to other parts of the world. We are interested in the descendants of all.

There is also another Windham (John, b. 1788) line in Taylor County that we have not been able to connect to except through marriage.
