This census lists Paul Witz (30; occupation listed as "Saloon"; probably a bartender), my great-grandfather; (NY 9th Volunteer Infantry, "Hawkins' Zouaves", Company C: American Civil War) and his wife Barbara Brenner Witz (25) living in the 10th District, 17th Ward of NYC in December of 1870. Strangely, their son Adolph (my grandfather), who would have been only 4 months old on this date, is not listed as living with them.
