Satisky Kissen KuzzinsUpdated October 25, 2000 |
Dear Satisky Kuzzins, There are different types of our family tree here. You can decide which one you like. They all present basically the same information but in different forms. What are we doing with this home page and why? I guess in my mind it's pretty simple: Our great grandparents and grandparents immigrated to America in the time period between 1890 and 1906-08. They went through many hardships to get here, leaving their parents, grandparents behind, to make a new life. What were they like, what kind of lives did they live, who did they leave behind, do we have any family that perished in the Holocaust. All of this information constitutes who we are today. I think we have a great legacy to pass down to our children and their children and a responsibility to honor those who came before us. So this is the "why". The "what" is more difficult. Michael (my husband) and I are searching for old records that will give us some of the answers to the questions above. We have learned from some older cousins that we may come from a shtetl in Lithuania named Vabalninkas (in Yiddish this was Abolnick). Recently, with the break-up of the Soviet Union, many records (19th century census records, rabbi records, etc.) are becoming available, which we have requested but not yet received, that will provide us with names of our family members, both those who immigrated and those that stayed behind. All of these records will allow us to go further back into our history. Meanwhile, we ask you to do 3 things to help: 1) ask your parents (or do it yourselves) for any old papers such as naturalization papers that they may have stashed away someplace and 2) send me any e-mail addresses of cousins and other family you may have so that we can pass all information on to other Satisky Kissen Kuzzins and 3) please, please seriously think about our family and consider taking time in the summer of 2002 to attend the Satisky Kissen Kuzzins reunion to be held in Myrtle Beach, SC. Those of you who attended the 2000 reunion in Raleigh know that we are a great, large and wonderful family. You will be rewarded with just about the warmest feelings you've ever had, and an even greater feeling of just who you are. Love to all, Devera |
