The Deposition of James Archdeacon....sworn upon the Holy Evangelist of

Almaighty God deposeth and saith that he heard Old Richard Womack say

that he

had given his son Richard Womack land in Halifax containing four hundred

acres and to the best of his knowledge he heard Old Richard Womack say

that

he had given his son Richard his negro Wench Tabb for one hundred acres of

the four hundred in Halifax; and after young Ricahrd Womack came down and

told his father that he had rather live in Lunenburg and that he would

swap

land with him and desired acre for acre but Richard Womack Senr reply'd

he would not give acre for acre but he agreed to give his son Rich'd two

hundred

in Lunenburg for his three hundred in Halifax which was agreed to by the

parties, and after young Rich'd Came down and settled his land in

Lunenburg

this my last WILL and Teastament in names and form following (vizt)

First, I give my body to the earth to be buried in a decent manner, and my

spirit I recomemd to God who gave it.

Secondly, I lend unto my loving wife MARTHA WOMACK two negro women Jude

and

Hannah during her natural life and after her decease for the said two

negroes

Jude and Hannah and their increase to be equally divided between my five

youngest children ELIZABETH, SARAH, LUCY, WILLIAM & JESSE. And should

either

of them die under age or before marriage for the survivors to divide

equally.

I also lend unto my wife two other negro women Doll and Nann while my son

JOHN becomes of age and after he arrives at the age of twenty-one years

for them and their increase from this date to be equally divided between

my

three sons-in-law WILLIAM STONE, CLEMENT GLENN AND FRANCIS COLEMAN. I also

give unto my wife her bed, Square table & walnut chest. I lend unto my

wife

my young bay mare until she has three folds, the first for my son JOHN,

the second for my son WILLIAM, and the third for my son JESSIE and then

the

said mare to remain the property of my wife forever. I lend my wife one

hundred & twenty five acres and during her natural life, beginning at a

hickory corner John but's line running along Colemans line to a pine

corner,

Roger's line, thence down my own line to Frazers line, thence across to

said Road line including half of my present dwelling house, Spring and

priviledge of other out houses;

I give unto my son JOHN one hundred acres of land adjoining his

SHEARWARD and my wife and after her decease I give and bequeath all my

of land containing two hundred and twenty acres unto my son JOHN with all

and singular their rights and appertain names in any wise belonging

First, I give my body to the earth to be buried in a decent manner, and my

spirit I recomemd to God who gave it.

Secondly, I lend unto my loving wife MARTHA WOMACK two negro women Jude

hundred & twenty five acres and during her natural life, beginning at a

hickory corner John but's line running along Colemans line to a pine

corner,

Roger's line, thence down my own line to Frazers line, thence across to

said Road line including half of my present dwelling house, Spring and

priviledge of other out houses;

I give unto my son JOHN one hundred acres of land adjoining his

brother

SHEARWARD and my wife and after her decease I give and bequeath all my

track

of land containing two hundred and twenty acres unto my son JOHN with all

and singular their rights and appertain names in any wise belonging

including

my present dwelling house, orchards, household, kitchen furniture,

tools and work horses. I also give unto my JOHN one feather bed, also one

negro boy named January which is to remain with my wife until he arrives

at the age of 21 years and then he is to receive him and the hall and the

!Very little is known about Jacob, few records have survived. The BEAN

TREE,

book on descendants of Robert Bean, has some unproven data. He is refered

to as Jacob of the Watauga as he was one of the first persons to settle

that part of Tn. He received a land grant from NC for his services in the

Rev. War. I will enclose what data I have acquried.

pg 894 Washington County was laid off by an act of the Legislature of

North

Carolina, passed in Nov 1777, and was made to include the whole of the

terroity afterward erected into the State of Tn. One of the first

magistrates

appointed was Jacob Womack. The first session of the court of pleas and

quarter sessions was begun and held on 23 Feb 1778: Jacob Womack was

appointed

Straymaster. Jacob Womack was one of those appointed to make return of the

taxable property. At the Nov term, 1778 Jacob Womack was appointed one of

the Commissioners to lay off the place for erecting the courthouse, prison

& stocks.

pg 913: Fort Womack, which stood two miles east of Bluff City, was built

by Jacob Womack.

The Wommack Fort was built about the latter part of Jul 1776, east of the

Holston (river), ten or twelve miles above the mouth of the Watauga.

He served under Sevier. He became a Major and was a Justice of Washington,

In Nov 1835, James C Dickson died leaving a large estate in stock, farming

Dickson. 23 Feb 1836, JACOB WOMACK obtained letters of administration and

guardianship of said estate. Shortly afterwards, Martha Ann Dickson

married

Joseph W. Miller. In Summer of 1836, JACOB WOMACK died intestate, and

MARTHA

WOMACK (his widow), and ABRAHAM WOMACK, SR. administered on his estate.

The following was sent to me photo copied, no dates nor further

information given:

Plans are underway to restore the Colonel abner Womack Cemetery, which

is

located about three miles west of Greensburg, south of Highway 10, and

everyone's help is needed. This cemetery is considered one of the

landmarks

of St Helena Parish as it serves as the burial ground of some of this

area's

earliest pioneer settlers.

After 1763, Florida was cided to England and a part of Louisiana known

as

the Florida Parishes became a part of Florida. Under English rule, the

territory was divided into East and West Florida. West Florida which lay

west

of the Apalachicola River included St. Helena Parish. in 1781, the Spanish

again conquered West Florida. It was during this turmoil that David and

Mildred

Womack and their children came to St. Helena Parish. Around 1801, the

Spanish

were still issuing land grants. England had previously issued grants

probably

which had not been established. There were Indians to battle, lands to

clear,

claims to file, serving in the war of 1812, plus battling the hardships of

pioneer life. Some settlers acquired lands under Spanish rule, While

others

settled and in habited lands which they later purchased from the United

States

Government. So it was with the sons of David and Mildred Pryor Womack.

Their children were:

1. Richard Mansel IV, married 1st Dicy Hayes; 2nd Martha. In 1809, he

purchased

land joining his brother Abner in Ward 3.

2. John, moved to Mississippi from North Carolina.

.

3. Dorothy Pryor, married David Mitchell.

.

4. Robert, moved with his brothers; served in the War of 1812; settled in

Rankin Co., Mississippi.

5. David Jr., married Sarah A. Norris; served in the War of 1812; settled

in

Rankin Co., Mississippi.

6. William Washington, settled in Rankin Co., Mississippi.

.

7. Abner, married Celia Herron (Herrin); owned several thousand acres in

the

2nd and 3rd wards; also owned land in Livingston Parish. The land on

which

the cemetery is located was purchased by Abner. At that time it

contained

638.9 acres. The first recorded burial is that of Abner himself in

1844.

However, it is believed that his brother Richard who died in 1825 was

the

first to be buried at that site. The last person buried there was John

Burton Womack, in 1896, nephew of Abner and son of Abraham Womack, Sr.

Abner served as Colonel in the War of 1812.

8. Jacob Green, married Nancy Waller; purchased land in 1810; served in

the

War of 1812, 12th and 13th Reg., La. Militia.

9. Abraham, Sr., married Elizabeth Burton. Took out a Spanish land Claim,

The following was sent to me photo copied, no dates nor further

information given:

Plans are underway to restore the Colonel abner Womack Cemetery, which

is

located about three miles west of Greensburg, south of Highway 10, and

everyone's help is needed. This cemetery is considered one of the

landmarks

of St Helena Parish as it serves as the burial ground of some of this

area's

earliest pioneer settlers.

After 1763, Florida was cided to England and a part of Louisiana known

as

the Florida Parishes became a part of Florida. Under English rule, the

territory was divided into East and West Florida. West Florida which lay

west

of the Apalachicola River included St. Helena Parish. in 1781, the Spanish

again conquered West Florida. It was during this turmoil that David and

Mildred

Womack and their children came to St. Helena Parish. Around 1801, the

Spanish

were still issuing land grants. England had previously issued grants

probably

which had not been established. There were Indians to battle, lands to

clear,

claims to file, serving in the war of 1812, plus battling the hardships of

pioneer life. Some settlers acquired lands under Spanish rule, While

others

settled and in habited lands which they later purchased from the United

States

Government. So it was with the sons of David and Mildred Pryor Womack.

Their children were:

1. Richard Mansel IV, married 1st Dicy Hayes; 2nd Martha. In 1809, he

purchased

land joining his brother Abner in Ward 3.

2. John, moved to Mississippi from North Carolina.

.

3. Dorothy Pryor, married David Mitchell.

.

4. Robert, moved with his brothers; served in the War of 1812; settled in

Rankin Co., Mississippi.

5. David Jr., married Sarah A. Norris; served in the War of 1812; settled

in

Rankin Co., Mississippi.

6. William Washington, settled in Rankin Co., Mississippi.

.

7. Abner, married Celia Herron (Herrin); owned several thousand acres in

the

2nd and 3rd wards; also owned land in Livingston Parish. The land on

which

the cemetery is located was purchased by Abner. At that time it

contained

638.9 acres. The first recorded burial is that of Abner himself in

1844.

However, it is believed that his brother Richard who died in 1825 was

the

first to be buried at that site. The last person buried there was John

Burton Womack, in 1896, nephew of Abner and son of Abraham Womack, Sr.

Abner served as Colonel in the War of 1812.

8. Jacob Green, married Nancy Waller; purchased land in 1810; served in

the

War of 1812, 12th and 13th Reg., La. Militia.

9. Abraham, Sr., married Elizabeth Burton. Took out a Spanish land Claim,

and

like his brothers served in the War of 1812.

Col.
