Application for Confederate Pension
Application dated 6 July 1885. Wm. Mooring states that he is age 60 a resident of Snow Hill that he enlisted on 23 January 1862 in Company K, 33rd Regiment North Carolina Troops and that at Gettysburg, PA on 4 July 1863 he has his left arm shot off. R.A. Edwards of Snow Hill vouches for him. Approved 30 July 1885, same officials sign.
Troops Book IX says he was born in Greene County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting at age 30, 23 January 1862. Reported absent without leave on 1 November 1862. Returned to duty prior to 1 March 1863. Captured at or near Chancellorsville, VA, 3 May 1863. Sent to Washington D.C. Paroled and transferred to City Point, Va where he was received on 13 May 1863 for exchange. Returned to duty prior to 1-5 July 1863, when he was wounded in the left arm and captured at Gettysburg, PA. Left arm amputated. Hospitalized at Chester, PA. Paroled and transferred to City Point where he was received on 23 September 1863 for exchange. Reported absent wounded through February 1865.
