Funeral services were at the Brooks Funeral Home, Visalia, California on Wednesday morning, July 23, 1958 at 10:00 a.m. The clergyman was Reverend Olin Collier. Soloist was Jay Wilson. Organist was Donna Wilson. Casket bearers were: Harold Morrow, Ronnie Lawson, Manuel Tristo, Kenneth Morrow, Carl Lawson, Everett Rodgers.

There is a rumor that John's last name is really Walker. That John and his siblings (girl and boy) ran away from an orphanage in Tennessee. Another story is that he murdered someone and changed his name and left Tennessee and wouldn't allow his photograph to be taken.
