 Includes NotesNotes for Robert FISKE:
While Robert was a resident of the parish of Saint James, South Elmham, England, his immediate family was in danger of persecution and his wife's sister, Isabella Gould, was a prisoner in Castle Norwich for her avowed Puritan opinion, and because her sister's family were in sympathy, they were obliged
to leave the parish of Saint James in consequence of the prejudice against Puritans.

Robert fled for religion's sake in the days of Queen Mary to Geneva [Switzerland], but returned later, and died at St. James. His will is dated 10Apr1590 and was proved 28Jul1600. Source: "Fiske and Fisk Family," Frederick Clifton Pierce, 1896, p. 39.

Reference 679: At this time is a season of great religious persecution. From the "Magna Brittannica" we learn that Weybred is a town in Suffolk County, England... John NOYES of Laxfield, Suffolk, England was burned at Laxfield Sept. 21, 1557 (Vol. V, page 305). John ALCOCK was taken for heresy at Headley Church, imprisoned and died in prison, and burned in a dunghill (Vol. V, page 305). William BROWN, a minister, was a long time in trouble for charges of heresy. His living taken away from him, and died in poverty (Vol. V, page 305). Oliver CROMWELL was of Suffolk County (Vol. V, page 175.)

Of this name FISKE, sometimes spelled FISK, 20 had many years ago been graduates at Harvard of whom 7 were clergy and 20 at other New England colleges of whom 9 were clergy. That the college catalog capriciously divides the family is plain enough as Rev. Moses has the authentic English letters, and His S. Rev. Samuel loses the final letter much of the foregoing is derived from a very val. tract on suff. emigr. by Rev. Joseph HUNTER, F.A.S. in 3 Masschusetts Historical Collections X 158 which informs us that at the herald's office, it appears in early times this family was entitled to a Coat of Arms.
