Descendants of George Rex


      6. John2 Rex (George1)150,151,152 was born 1731 in Germantown, Philadelphia Co., PA153,154, and died January 06, 1802155,156. He married Sibyele Bastian157,158 May 07, 1754 in Swede's Church, Philadelphia, PA159,160, daughter of Christopher Bastian. She was born Abt. May 27, 1735161, and died April 16, 1812162,163.

John Rex, son of Hans Jürg and Barbara Rex, was born in Germantown in 1731 and died there 6 January 1802 at age 70, according to the burial register of St. Michael's Church. John Rex and Sibyele Bastian, daughter of Christopher Bastian, were
married 7 May 1754, according to the register of Old Swedes (Gloria Dei) Church, Philadelphia. She died 16 April 1812, aged 76 years, 10 months, and 20 days, and was buried with John in St. Michael's churchyard, where their gravestones are now
illegible.



By deeds dated 2 and 22 October 1762 George Rex of Germantown, blacksmith, sold to his son John Rex, wheelwright, part of the land bought from William Harmer 8 June 1729, and eleven acres next to son Abraham's land, land bought 16 September
1743 from Barnhard Kepler. John lived on part of the original Rex farm at Germantown all his life. During the Revolutionary War he was a member of Captain James Irwine's Company from Germantown District in the Philadelphia County Militia. He
was listed as a head of family at Germantown in the 1790 Federal census. His will was dated 5 November 1801, naming his six children and wife Sebella, who was to be cared for by his sons William and Joseph.

Abraham Rex, son of Hans Jürg and Barbara Rex, was born at Germantown 7 November 1735 and died there 7 February 1793, according to his gravestone in St. Michael's churchyard. He and Anna Bastian were married 26 July 1759, according to the
register of St. Michael's and Zion Church, Philadelphia. She was a sister of Sybella, his brother John's wife, daughters of Christopher Bastian. Ann Rex died 17 November 1824 and was buried next to her husband.



Abraham's portion of the original Rex holdings at Germantown included part of the 60 acres purchased from William Harmer and the original 27 acres purchased from Claus Braun in 1720. In 1779 the following notice was published: "Sales of sundry
confiscated estates in the City of Philadelphia, Wednesday, August 25, 1779, Abraham Rex, value of property £2,820." Abraham was listed in 1780 as a member of the Germantown Upper District Company in the Philadelphia County Militia. In the
1790 Federal census he was listed as head of family at Germantown. He died intestate and the administration was granted to Ann Rex, widow and relict; John Rex, taylor; Enoch Rex, blacksmith, and John Juston, all of Germantown. The relict Ann
Rex's will names all their surviving children.



According to History of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, Abraham and Anna are said to have had a 14th child, but no record has been found to date.
