William F. WOBSCHALL was my great grandfather. He was born in Posen province, Prussia on 10-Dec-1854. His half-brother, Karl Ferdinand, was born on 25-Jul-1844 in Stumbochowa (now Stepuchowo, Wagrowiec, Wielkopolskie, Poland). This village’s coordinates are East 17º24’ North 52º43’. It is about 28 miles NE of Poznan, Poland and is east of Wongrowitz (Wagrowiec) and west of Znin. William’s sister, Carolina, was born on 26-Dec-1851 in Budziejewo East 17º19’ North 52º42’. The father of all three was most likely Julius WOBSCHALL. I have not found any information about Julius.
Karl’s mother was Justine WEN(T)ZEL. William and Carolina's mother was Rosalie WENZEL. Rosalie later married Michael SEEMANN in 1857 in Golaszewo East 17º25’ North 52º45’. Rosalie, Michael, William, Carolina and William's half-siblings Emil and Bertha SEEMANN traveled on ship "Mast Jenny" from Bremen and arrived in NY on 31-Aug-1869. They settled in Toledo, OH. Karl lived nearby until he moved to Berlin, WI after 1880.
Karl arrived on the ship "Neptune" from Bremen to New York on 06-Jul-1870. His stepdaughter (my great grandmother), Amelia ZUEHLKE, born on 13-Feb-1866 in Posen province accompanied him. She married William WOBSCHALL in 1881 near Toledo, OH. Some of her siblings also moved to Berlin, WI.
In the mid-1800’s, several WOBSCHALL families lived in and around Margonin, Radwonke and Samotschin, Prussia. This area is less than 20 miles north of Stepuchowo. Most of their descendants settled in Indiana and Minnesota and several continued on to California and Oregon. The relationship between most of these families is known but their connection to my family has yet to be determined. Other families including a WOPSCHALL family in Connecticut also remain to be linked.
I am seeking information about my WOBSCHALL ancestors and all variations of WAPSHALL, WABSCHALL, WOPSCHALL, WABSHAW and WOPSHALL. I am familiar with records from the Margonin area. Birth, death and marriage records from Schokken (Skoki), which includes Stepuchowo and Budziejewo, are on Family History Library film numbers 752858 to 752867. These records list several family members but, unfortunately, not William. Rosalie WENZEL’s marriage to Michael SEEMAN(N) is on film number 752708.
