Notes for James Cummings Lucas:
Great Grandpa Lucas was Aunt Edna's Dad. He was the engineer on a railroad train. He was the only person killed in a head on collision with another train.
per Ed Wynn 2/25/2001
I remember as a kid seeing pictures in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette of a crash involving an "Uncle" of mine who was the engineer (I think) It was a steam locomotive. He was impaled by the live steam line (through the stomach) and then the live steam peeled his skin away.I am not certain this is who you are talking about, but the timing would be about right since I left home in 1952 for the Navy.
Aunt Edna used to go on about how close they were, but Mom always said they fought like cats and dogs. I guess this is one reason you should always let people know how you really feel.
He was Kittaning, Pa north of pittsburgh near oil city.
Aunt Edna lost her first child , a boy, 7 mos when her father died. She lost two other little boys too. 1 she had born dead, full term, was in an accident. then jimmy, then michael, for 3 mos crib death, then rick.
