Grandpa's notes (His findings) In the early days of York county History there were six Heiner's (The name being spelled in numerous ways such as Haner, Hainer, Hoener, Haener, Hener, Heyner, Hiner, Heiner, Hyner) Two in Manheim Township, York County, PA, Emanel & Frederick. I think the two came from Lebanon township, Lancaster Co., PA (now Lebanon Co., PA). I believe they lived in that District which today is known as South Anwill Twp., Lebanon Co., PA, they were the sons of Johannes Haner and Magdalena Gaissbuhler, from Niederwill, Canton, Bern Switzerland, Emanuel married Rosena, Frederick married Magdalena Steinman, They were the children of or grand-children of Hans Haner and Elisbeth Plattner. John Frederick Haner was baptized May 6, 1753 and Emanuel was baptized October 4, 1761. Frederick Haner (Hyner) was in the Revolutionary Army from York and Lancaster County. He served under Captain Michael Holdenbaum. He was an officer of the day January 14, 1776 and February 12, 1775, in York County he served under Captain George Geiselman 7th battalion 6th company York County Militia, 1778 he was first Lt., He is also mentioned as being in Northumberland Co., PA He was a private under Col. Cookson Long (Company) mentioned in Pay roll May 16, 1778 & June 20, 1778. It may be that the remaining four are also sons of Johannes Haner, but family tradition says that we are descended from Phillip Hainer who landed at Philadelphia in 1738, but I can find no trace of Philip in the land records of the state of PA. These Hiner's came into York Co., Pa some time around 1770. John Martin Hiner, Sr. of Dover Township, York Co., PA first appears in the land records in 1770, he bought this land off of Peter Fox, he later in the eighties sold his land to Anthony Deardorff and he and family removed to Botetourt Co., VA, where he bought 700 acres of land in 1787. He died there in the first part of the eighteen hundreds in Amsterdam Township, Botetourt Co., VA. John Martin Hiner was aslo in the Army of the Revolution from Dover Township, York Co., PA. He served in Captain William Haeffers Co., he entered the Army in 1778. Yost or Joseph Heiner of Berwick and Paradise Township's first appears in the land records of York Co., PA in 1786, he lived and died in Paradise Twp., York Co., PA in 1816. He was twice married first to Maria, this union was blessed with one daughter Elizabeth Heiner, she married George Sheaffer, his second wife was the widow of Michael Yohe, he raised several step-children. He also served in the Army of the Revolution. He served under Captain Lindsey Sturgeon. Johann Ludwig Heiner, he lived and died in Pardise Twp., York Co., PA. He also served in the Army of the Revolution, under Captin Peter Zollinger, 7th battalion, 4th company of York Co. Militia. He and wife are buried at Abbottstown, PA Henry Heiner also lived in Paradise Twp., York Co., PA and died there in 1826. He raised a family of six. He also served in the Army of the Revolution under Captain William Haeffer, sixth Class, from 1778 to 1781. Emanuel Haner was also in the Army under Captain Michael Holdenbaum, 6th class. In Northumberland Co., Pa there was John Martin Heiner, He was the son of John Heiner, Sr. of VA. He is buried at Sunbury, PA There was also a George Hainer in Brunswig Twp., Berks Co., Pa now in Schuylkill Co., Pa Mathias Heiner lived in Philadelphia Co., PA What today is Montgomery Township, Montgomery Co., PA HE bought some land in Little Britten Twp, Bucks Co, PA in 1769
