PROF. WILLIAM BODENHORN William Bodenhorn, son of John Bodenhorn, was born July 1, 1844, at Annville, Lebanon Co., Pa. His great-grandfather, John Bodenhorn, came to America from Germany about 1860, and settled upon a farm near Philadelphia, where he died. His son, John, moved to Schuykill County, where he became quite prominent. A son of the latter, Henry Bodenhorn, worked in the mines in his youth, and at the age of seventeen removed to Swatara township, where he began farming, and married a Miss Wetzel. From the father of his wife he learned the art of weaving, and followed that business twenty-five years. A son, John, learned the trade of a tailor with John Uhller, at Annville, and for thirty-five years carried on that occupation. He was accidently killed in a railway accident on the 13th of September, 1870. William Bodenhorn, the subject of our sketch, began to teach school in Dauphin County at the age of sixteen, and for thirteen years taught in that and Lebanon County, including a four years' term as principal of the Annville High School, and five yaers as tutor in Lebanon Valley College. In May, 1875, he was chosen county superintendent of public schools, and is now filling his third successive term. Mrs Miller was aged....thirty years and was a daughter of Alex Bodenhorn of Rose Township, and a woman of most excellent character. Her home life...happy and there was no apparent reason for the rash act which ended her ...life. her husband who was at work in the hayfield was attracted to the house by the screams of his children and hurrying to determine the reason thereof found his wife dead from strangulation with the children locked out of the room to which she had retired. The deceased was born February 18, 1885, the son of J.F. and Catherine Swab Miller, at Green Valley, Knox Township. He lived on a farm near Ramseytown for many years and worked in the mines there. Mr Miller was first married to Jennie Bodenhorn, who died a number of years ago. To this union three children, Edward, Carrie and Merle were born. He later married Mary Smith, who survives him along with the following children born to this union: Allene, Keith, Kenneth and Adam, all of Philadelphia. Keith and Merle are overseas, while Kenneth just arrived home a few days before his father died, after making his fifth trip across the ocean. In addition to his wife and children, Mr Miller is survived by the following brothers and sisters: J.F., of Warren:M.S. and J. They observed their 56th wedding anniversary this year. Mr. Stull lived in Gilpin Township most of his life. He owned and operated Stull's Remnant Shop at his home the last 20 years. Before that, he owned and operated a saw mill and lumber company in Stullville for 20 years. During World War II, he operated a grocery store in Stullville, a small community that was named for him because of his associations there. He was a member of the Elks and IOOF lodges, both in Leechburg. Mr. Stull leaves his widow; a son, L.J. His mother committed suicide and in later childhood he did not get along with step-mother. He made his way to Phila. at age 16. He worked at odd jobs, had several business's. Started Miller Moving Company, hired his brothers Keith, Kenneth and Merle. Merle eventually bought the business. Ed joined the Phila. Police Force, did not like police work, tho he loved working with the kids. He and another officer were the first to start PAL, the Police Athletic League. He was an amateur boxer, an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an expert on the Civil War and Abe Lincoln. Loved the outdoors and travel. A self-made man he taught himself to build a house out of books from the library. The first house he built was in Line Lexington, Pa. He did all the work himself except for the plumbing and electric. This began a career as a builder and land developer, many homes were built by him in Bucks and surrounding counties. He received a GED for High School and went on to get his realtor license. Became a land developer, well respected in his community. He had bowel cancer and survived only to be attacked by Alzheimer's Disease. After an illness of more than 8 years he died. OBIT EDWARD B. MILLER Edward B. Miller of East Rockhill Townsihip, died Tuesday at the Pine Run Health Center in Doylestown Township. He was 85 years of age. Mr. Miller was born in Knox Township, Jefferson County. He was the son of the late Edward A. and Jennie (Bodenhorn) Miller. Mr. Miller was the husband of the late Sara M. Miller who preceded her husband in death in 1991. He was a self-employed builder and developer in the Pennridge area for 35 years until his retirement in 1987. Prior to that he had been a police officer in Philadelphia, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in that city. Mr. Miller attended the Bethel Baptist Church in East Rockhill Township. Survivors include: a daughter, Kathleen J. Ritter of San Dimas, California; two grandsons; two sisters, Carrie Hecker and Allene Murray both of Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law. Sister Mary Rita of Philadelphia and Rita C. Scrampton of Sellersville and a brother-in-law, Domonic Martine of Langhorne. Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, 1996 at the Bethel Baptist Church in Sellersville. Interment was in the Sellersville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Perkasie. Her father was a tailor who came from Italy and married Grandmom who was born in the States but went back to Italy and was raised there. She returned here and was married at age 13. Mother was the oldest girl and helped support the family. She had flaming red hair and beautiful freckles. It was said that her grandfasther or greatgrandfather had a red beard. There were no other red-heads in the family. Mom met Dad while working as a waitress in a restaurant. They eloped to Berryville, Virginia to get married. She was devoted to her family. Helped sisters care for her mother until Grandma died. She was a wonderful homemaker, As an only child I was the focus of her life. Her two grandsons were also the light of her life. She was the absolute homemaker, never seemed to tire doing things for others. She worked in an airplane factory during the war, at Philco and Minneapolis Honeywell. After retirement became interested in art and crafts, She painted and became proficient in the art of stained glass work. The last years of her life were difficult. She could never accept the fact we could not manage Dad at home after he became difficult because of the Alzheimer's. She spent 8-12 hoours a day at the Nursing Home with him and allowed her own health to fail. She was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer that was well advanced and died in 1991. Obit: Sara M.
