Notes for ROSA AZZIE DRAWHORN: In January 1993, Frances WRIGHT WALKER (eldest daughter of Paul WRIGHT & Lizzie CROCKER, and granddaughter of Lloyd Napoleon WRIGHT and EXA Evaleen DRAWHORN) supplied Fred B. McKINLEY with the following information.I quote Frances: When Aunt Azzie was in the nursing home in San Augustine, I asked her about the Wright and Drawhorn family histories. She said that she would make me a box of information.I have copies every piece of paper in that box.You already have all this information but I thought that you might enjoy reading her version. Mother (Lizzie CROCKER WRIGHT) said that Mrs. Arlis DuBose of Rt 4, Box 80, Jasper, TX at (409) 384-8120 is very knowledgeable about our family history. The following was written by Aunt Azzie about 1968. To whom it may concern: These were some of our forbears--some of these things which I was too young to remember were told to me by my Aunt Jane Loggins who was married to Burnell Lewis and Aunt Laura Loggins who was married to George Lewis.Aunt Jane and Aunt Laura also had three other sisters--Josephine (Jo) who married Jack Bullock, Aunt Laura's twin sister Molly, who married John Gasway, also my mother Rosa Paralee Loggins who married my father Jesse Miles Drawhorn. These sisters had two brothers named Louis and Green.Uncle Louis had one boy named George Green Loggins. He was married to Carolyn (??); they had no children.Jesse and Rosa Drawhorn had nine children: Exa, Alice, Madie, Maude, Walter, Nay, Ellis, Ida, and Azzie. My father was married again after my mother died: to Rosa Wright. They had two children: Florence and Era Drawhorn.Jesse Drawhorn died about May 8, 1907 at age 45.Rosa Drawhorn died about 1899, June 10 at age 32.My stepmother, Rosa Wright Drawhorn died about 1966.My mother and father were buried in Red land Cemetery (now known as Chinquapin Cemetery), in Chinquapin near San Augustine, TX,, but nearer to Bronson, TX.These were some of our relatives who were buried in the same cemetery--Johnnie Lewis, killed in France or Belgium during World War II, Maude's children: Lucille and Roy, and a small baby--Exa's little baby also.Grandma and Grandpa Loggins, Uncle George Lewis and many others that were friends of our family. My sister Exa Wright died in 1928 at age 45, and she was also buried in Red land Cemetery. My sister Alice was buried in Deweyville, TX cemetery and Ida in the Beaumont cemetery. The Redland cemetery was on my father's land. When he sold it to Exa and Pony (Lloyd Napoleon Wright), he did not let the cemetery go with the sale, but could always use it with the stipulation that they would always see that it was kept in good condition, which they have done. My grandfather William Duffield Loggins was a quarter Cherokee Indian, whose grandfather's mother (Susannah Willingham) was a full blooded Cherokee Indian through which we are descended from Pocahontas. My grandmother's name was Ursula Kirksey who mother's maiden name was Canada and who came from Canada. My father, Jesse Miles Drawhorn, had the following sisters: Susan (Sook) married to Joe Mitchell.Jane married a Thomas Ford, Elizabeth (Lizzie) married to a Humphrey, Emma married a Baldree, also Florence. One brother Willie Drawhorn who was married to Sis Johnson. My father's mother [Martha Murphy] was the the daughter of Willis Murphy, son of Mary and George Murphy who came from Maidenhead, England. They [Fred B. McKinley's assumption to be Willis Murphy]landed at Buffalo Bayou and built a house. The Indians went on a rampage, burned the house down, and they (Murphy family) were driven away. When the family went back and found the house destroyed, they went north to the vicinity of Hemphill, San Augustine and Bronson, TX to build again, and where they lived the remainder of their lives. My grandfather, Jesse Bell Drawhorn's people came from North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. They were related to the Droughns of Virginia and the Bankheads of Alabama.Jesse Bell had two brothers. They all fought in the Civil War and endured many hardships.Grandpa Loggins and Grandpa Drawhorn had considerable property and money.Grandpa Loggins also fought in the Civil War.After the war, Confederate money was practically worthless; in 1968, it would be worth a fortune. |
