| "The early Wrights were a kind and benevolent people. They were brave defenders of their country in time of peril, and their name was proverbial for charities and beneficence. Following is their motto as handed down through several generations: There is nothing purer than honesty, Nothing sweeter than charity, Nothing warmer than love, Nothing richer than wisdom, Nothing more steadfast than faith. Those united in one mind form the purest, The sweetest, the warmest, the richest, The brightest and the most steadfast happiness." (Rev. Fred N. Wright, ca 1906) I am searching for descendants or ancestors of my 4th Great- grandfather, Gabriel WRIGHT. Recently released evidence shows that Gabriel WRIGHT was born September 08, 1743 in Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scotland, to James WRIGHT and Isobel KENMORE. After leaving his homeland and coming to America, Gabriel lived in New Jersey. In 1762 he married Deborah BALL, descendent of Edward BALL, Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. Gabriel served in the Revolutionary War as a soldier in the "Jersey Blues." Gabriel and Deborah had 10 children: Johathan, Joeb (Job), Sarah (CORY), Hosea, Charity (BINNS), David Sr., Anna (HEATH), Rhoda (CORY), John (b. 1781), and Caleb (b. 1786). Over a period of several years, all or part of this family moved from New Jersey to Virgina, to Kentucky and finally to Ohio. Gabriel WRIGHT passed away on June 20, 1803 in Ross County, Ohio. |
