| WUERFEL is a unique German name. Our reseach suggests the name means "good luck" although the spelling has been Americanized from the original spelling. Our branch of the family is spread across Michigan. John's side of the family also includes the SWENSENs on his mother's side. The Swensens were from a large Norwegian family, some of whom immigrated to the US in the early 1900's where they settled throughout Michigan. Some of family remained in Norway. We are still in touch with them. John's grandfather John Swensen was an exceptional businessman. Leslye's side of the family includes the KNEIPs and the HOOPERs. The Kneip's have done a good job of trying to follow the family as it grows and spreads. Originally from Belguim, the Kneips settled in Wisconsin, before branching out from there. Family reunions are still held in Wisconsin. According to the information we've been able to gather, Leslye great-great grandfather immigrated from England with two of his brothers and originally settled in Michigan in the Fennville area. The family has branched out from there. Roy H. Hooper was Leslye's grandfather. She is attempting to put together a family book starting with Roy and including all present generations. The Roy Hooper family is planning a family reunion in Traverse City Michigan on July 20th, 1997. We are looking for any information on any of our family groups and are willing to share the information we have gathered. |
