* The von Würden Family Home Page*

Updated November 9, 2002

Hello! I have researched the Wurden (von Würden) family history in America and Europe, and have writen a book on the topic. It is "published" on CD-ROM (2 CD's).
My line came to the USA from Larvik, Norway, in 1869. Prior to this they lived in Copenhagen, northern Germany (1300-1800 AD), and before 1300 AD, in Switzerland.

There are (or were) wappen (coats of arms), a Land Würden, a castle, and two homestead farms in the family. People include: engineers, farmers, pilots, ship captains, steam-engine builders, iron foundry owners, rich philanthropists, physicists, professors, teachers, nurses, famous artists, schmiede (smittys), soldiers, knights, murderers, someone killed by lightning, geheimschriber (court writer), landeshauptsmann (sheriff), beach pirates, and a tourney judge.

Common first names are Frederick, Johann, Stefan, Alverick, Borchardt, Julia, Catherina, Cordt, and Heinrich.

The von Würden's were a noble family in the area north of Bremen, (actually called Land Würden today), and lived for hundreds of years in the region of the small village of Wersabe, on the east bank of the Weser River, in northern Germany.

Related last names are: Edgar, Tannahill, Wieger, Wigger, Linde, Brettbach, Schalen, Wendeln, Sponum von Holte, Morisse, Illies,Stover, Wersabe, Knubel, Kobbe, Thieling, and others.

The family reunion was on July 18, 1998, in Bremerton, Washington. Fifty people attended. I gave a talk on the family history, and had large poster displays and old photos available. These are also available on CD-ROM. Please contact me for further information, if you like.

In the tree below, I suppress information on people born after 1910.
