I am writing about the Wylie side of the family. That is my father’s side. The reason for only including one side of the family is because that is the only side I have information on and that is not much. But, I will try to give a brief history of both of my parent’s families.
My mother’s maiden name is Bullock. She was born in Post Texas on September 20, 1927. She was named Geraldine. She is from a family of 4 children an older brother (Raymond), an older sister (Ida) and then my mother and her twin sister (Murlene), although they are not identical. I never met my mother’s parents because they both passed away before I was born. In fact I do not even know their names. My grandfather passed away from diabetes, and my grandmother had a stroke. From stories I think that my mother was very close to her father and used to help him milk the cows in the morning before school. After both of my grandparents passed away the twins went to live with their older brother and his wife. I regret the fact that I do not know much about my mother and her childhood years. My mother was not a big talker, kind of the quite type. When I got to realize how much I wanted to learn about her, my mother was into beginning alheazamers. My father’s name is Eual Dean Wylie. He was born in Little Rock Arkansas on May 20, 1927. He was one of three children an older brother (Bill) and a much younger sister (Sandra). My aunt was not born until my father was already a senior in high school. So when a little sister came along she was the pride of the family. My grandmother and grandfather moved from Arkansas to Lubbock Texas when my father was still a small boy. My grandfather was a truck driver and my grandmother worked in retail clothing. I was raised only a few blocks from them and have always been very close to them. My grandmother passed away three years ago from cancer. My grandfather is celebrating is 95th birthday on Dec 21st in Lubbock. He is in good health and going full force.
My mother and father met in high school in Lubbock Texas. They were high school sweethearts although they did not get married until my father came back from serving in the Navy. After four years of marriage my older brother came along (Dennis Ray) and then two year later I was born. My brother and I are exactly 2 years, 2 days and 12 hours apart. Although we had a lot in common we were never close, we are very different people. My brother is married (Suzanne) and has one daughter (Renee). They all live in Lubbock Texas.
My mother passed away April 15, 2003 after many years of declining health. My father passed away on October 26, 1989 from cancer. I miss them both very much.
I have found this assignment to be the most difficult one I have ever had to complete. It was mind opening to discover how very little I know about my families past history. I would be interested in learning more, but there is no one to tell me the stories. I wish I had some close family, but I was raised in a small family and both of my parents have passed away therefore at times I feel very alone.
