Gleanings from the Gilchrist Clan
Greetings from the Gilchrist Clan in Alabama. Hi, My name is Myrtle Gilchrist Wynne. I am in the process of tracing my heritage from the original settlers in America (circa 1600)to Irish or Scottish descent. I believe Malcolm Gilchrist to be one of the first immigrants . He was born in Cantire, Scotland. His move to America would have been before 1790. His wife died on theshores of North Carolina . They had two sons Malcolm and Daniel.Malcolm never marries. Daniel marries Nancy Philips in Nashville, Tn. in 1819. They have four childern, Malcolm Joseph,Philip Philips, John A. and Katherine. This is where I believe our lineage to begin. I need assistance on locating marriage records predating 1750's in North Carolina and the immigration records from 1600 - 1800. I know the port of call would have been on the North Carolina shores. The lineage gap occurs 1750 and 1790. My next line is on John Gilchrist born 1788 South Carolina and Parmelia Gilchrist born 1799 South Carolina. They marry in between 1820-1825. We know John had two brothers, Henry and Bartley G. Gilchrist. We do not know any of Parmelia's hertiage. We need information leading to their parentage and homesite. Our later lineage links to the following surnames: Anderson, Brewton, Mason, Weaver, Inglett,McMullen, Overton, Daniel, Moncrief, Southall,Mott, Locklayer (Locklear), Wood. | Gleanings from the Gilchrist Clan Updated September 6, 2000 |
