The Yantis/Yandes/Gentes Lineage
The Yantis/Yandes/Gentes LineageUpdated September 5, 2000
Am interested in the early roots of the Yantis family - assumed to originate in the Saarland area of Germany involving such areas as Rubenheim, Walsheim and Breitfurt.Surname thought to be Gentes (or Jentis, Jentes, Gendes, Gentis). My lineage traced toJacob G/Y, who apparently arrived in the US with two brothers (Daniel and John) about 1763.It is assumed his original name was changed in translation to the similarly sounding "Yantis"; other spelling variations do exist in the US (Yandis, Yandes, Yentis, Yantess, Yantes and Yantiss).I am particularly interested in the descendant line as follows:John Y - Alexander Scott J. Y - John Lewis Y - to George Alexander Y, my father.
