I was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1949. I am currently researching both my Paternal and Maternal Grandparents. On the Paternal side, the Yassenoff's or Yosinoff's immigrated from the Ukraine in the 1880's to the Dayton, Ohio area and also Rhode Island. They came from a city which is today known as Kirovograd. In the 1880's this city was known as Elizabethgrad or in Yiddish, Yelisiovetgrad. I believe that the elder of the family at that time was Abraham Yassenoff. I am aware of 5 brothers who immigrated, Issac, David, Isadore, Solomon, and Peter. I am specifically interested in finding information about Solomon Yassenoff who seemed to have mostly female children. I am also interested in information about Kirovograd. The Yassenoff's likely lived in a small village in the Minsk area before moving to the Kirovograd area. On the female side of the paternal side the last name is Felsenthal. Supposedly all Felsenthals are related. My grandmother was Lena Felsenthal. She was born in Kusel, Germany in the Alsace Lorraine area. Her father was Simon Felsenthal and he descended from Elias Felsenthal of Morbach and Neiderkirchen. I am also researching my maternal side. Their family names were Cherry and Sittason. The Sittason's were based in Decatur, Alabama at the turn of the century. My grandfather, Edward Cherry was born in Maury Cty. Columbia, Tennessee and met Lura Cherry while working for the railroad in the Decatur area. I think the Cherry's married into the family of U.S. president, James K. Polk but haven't found proof to date. Finally, I am now researching my wife's ancestors. Their surname is Killian. In modern times they lived in the Lima, Ohio area, but I have traced them back to Jacob Killian, born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. I believe that the Killian's origninally came from Germany.
