This site is dedicated to the memory of Augustine Ybarra, his ancestors and to the future of his descendants

Grandpa and Grandma Tin lived in Silo for a few years then returned to Romita in 1916. Romita, Guanajuato is in central Mexico just south of Mexico City. Augustine came to the United States to work several years before bringing his family in 1916. He worked with two of his brothers on the railroad, most likely the Miller Lex company.

During that time he was struck on the ear with a sledge hammer while holding a metal spike. He was given medical attention and was asked to sign a waiver for this accident. He refused and returned to Mexico to recuperate. Augustine brought his in-laws and his brother's family to California. He accomplished this by crossing the boarder under the watchful eye of the boarder guards. His brother's children had to pretend that their Uncle Augustine was their "Pa". Hence the name "Pa-Tin" was created and consequently he was known by his family and friends as "Pa-Tin".

His own family was brought to Riverside in 1916 when the oldest son (Antonio) ws seven years old and the youngest was six months old (Cipriana). Reyes, then the middle child, was about 2 1/2 years old and they had lost a son at birth. Augustine and Margarita were now living in the United States and had six more children.

Grandpa Tin became a citizen of the United States in 1950. He studied hard to memorize the United States Constitution and about the government. He was tested through an interpreter named Teen florez. On of the questions was "Name the president of the United States". His answer was "Ay se enjuaga". The president was President Eisenhower. The year was early 1950's probably 1953.

Grandma Margarita was a great cook and loved her grandchildren very much. Every Saturday morning she and grandpa cut flowers to take to church.
