| What started out as an afternoon project to investigate my heritage on the internet, led to the revelation that I am a tenth generation Yeldell in America. Robert and Jane Yeldell imigrated to America in approximately 1693, settling on the banks of the Delaware River in what became Philadelphia. I have discovered numerous "Yeldell clans" around the country, mostly descendants of Yeldell women. My grand moment came when I discovered "THE YELDELL FAMILY of Merstham England, Colonial Philadelphia, The Carolinas and Alabama", written by Dr. Oliver C. Weaver, Jr. a distant cousin and fellow descendant of Robert and Jane. My distinction is that my Yeldell heraldry is documented back to 1553 in Merstham, England. I was fortunate to travel to Merstham on a Sunday and attend services at St. Catherines Church, the ancestral church of the Yeldell family. | |
