1. MATTHEW1 MILK1 was born Bet. 1793 - 1794 in Westfield, Norfolk, England2, and died May 07, 1856 in Cranworth, Mitford, Norfolk3. He married REBECCA _______4 Abt. 1827. She was born 1802 in Hoe, Norfolk, England5, and died December 01, 1884 in Cranworth, Mitford, Norfolk6.

CRANWORTH, on the Blackwater rivulet, is a scattered village, 2½ miles S.E. of Shipdham, and 16 miles W. by S. of Norwich. Its parish contains 340 souls, and 1107 acres of fertile land, mostly belonging to T.T.D.Gurdon, Esq., the lord of the manor and patron of the rectory, valued in K.B. at £5. 18s. 6½d., and in 1831 at £326, with that of Letton annexed to it. The Rev. Philip Gurdon, M.A., is the incumbent, and the tithes of Cranworth have been commuted for £212. 14s. per annum. The Church (St. Mary) is a large structure, with a square tower, surmounted by a small wooden spire. In the chancel are several neat monuments of the Gurdons of Letton Hall. Here was anciently a village called Swathing, but it was depopulated several centuries ago. A neat School was built here in 1844, by the lord of the manor. The Fuel Allotment, awarded in 1798, is 6A. 3R. 17P. The poor have also 5s. a year from Mowting's charity.

CRANWORTH, 2½ miles S. E. of Shipdham, is a parish and scattered village, comprising 310 souls, 65 houses, and 1,107 acres of land, mostly the property of Brampton Gurdon, Esq., the lord of the manor, and patron of the rectory, valued in the King's book at £5 18s. 6½d., and in 1831 at £326, with that of Letton annexed to it. The Rev. Philip Gurdon, M.A., is the incumbent; and the tithes of Cranworth are commuted for £220. This parish and that of Letton are ancient damesnes, and the inhabitants are exempt from serving on juries. The CHURCH, dedicated to St. Mary, is a spacious edifice, with a square tower surmounted by a small wooden spire. In 1852 it was repewed with open seats, a south aisle built, and a handsome screen, pulpit, and reading desk of carved oak, added at the cost of about £1,000, which was defrayed by the Gurdon family. It contains several memorials to the Gurdon family. Here was formely [sic] a village called Swathing, but it was depopulated several centuries ago. Here is a school, built by the lord of the manor in 1844, which he also supports. The Fuel Allotment, awarded in 1798, is 6a. 1r. The poor have 5s. a year from Mowting's Charity.
