Charles Henry Younger, Sr., was born on 12 August 1810 in Gaumnitz, Zeitz(51 degrees North Lat - 12 degrees East Long), Saschen (Saxony) Preussen (Prussia). His birth name was Carl Heinrich Juenger. His parents were Johann August Juenger and Johanne Rosine Schumannin, they were married on 08 Aug 1808 in Gladitz, Saschen (Saxony) Preussen (Prussia). He first appears in American records in Muskingum County Ohio when on 02 Feb 1837 he married Elizabeth Lowry. After their marriage they migrated SW through Ohio and Virginia, eventually settleling in the Point Pleasant, Mason County, Virginia area (Now West Virginia). They were the parents of ten children:

Mary...Born abt 1836 in Ohio or Virginia, she has been found on the 1850 census, but not before or since.

Frederick...Born abt 1838 in Ohio or Virginia, he is believed to be a twin of James. Both are found on the 1860 census, but nothing before or since. It is believed that both left home to join up for the Civil War and met with disaster on the way. A search of Union and Confederate Rosters has failed to turn up either name.

James...See Frederick above.

Serena...Born abt 1840 in Virginia. She married George Roush on 28 Feb 1861 in Meigs Cty Ohio. From records that I have, I know she was still alive, in her 70's, in 1917, and living in the Gallipolis, Gallia Cty, Ohio area. All attempts thus far to contact any of her many known descendants have failed.

Sophia...Born abt 1842 in Virginia. She appears only on the 1860 census, nothing before or since.

Charles Jr...My Great Grandfather. Born 01 Jan 1843 in Pomeroy, Ohio. With his father joined the 9th Regiment Virginia Volunteer Infantry, Company E, at the beginning of the Civil War. Wounded and captured, he was imprisoned in Andersonville, Georgia. Later while being transferred by train to another Confederate Prison at Millen, Georgia, he and 3 others overpowered and killed some of their guards and escaped. He was married four times (1st: Clarrisa Johnson in 1863, he later killed her in July 1866; 2nd: Mary M. Glass in 1865, her fate is unknown; 3rd: Elizabeth Burden (My Great grand mother) in 1882, this marriage produced 3 sons, he deserted her in 1904; 4th: Almeda Rupe in 1904, this marriage produced 9 children, {8 girls and 1 son} only descendants of the son have been found thus far). VOLUMES of information is available on this man.

Elizabeth...Born 01 Aug 1846 in Virginia. She married William Wallace Gates on 12 July 1867. They moved then to Missouri. She died in Cabool, Missouri on 02 Aug 1913. Her descendants live there still.

Virginia Christina...Born abt 1853 in Ohio/Virginia. She married Robert Hoffman on 12 May 1870 in Gallia Cty, Ohio. They were found on the 1870 Kanawha Cty, WVa census living in Charleston, WVa with her parents. They were last found on the 1920 West Virginia Census in Mason County, Cologne Township. He is listed as age 72, she as 67.

Jackson...Born abt 1857 in Virginia. He appears on the 1860 census, but nothing since, believed to have possibly perished of sickness during the Civil War.

Harriet A. Born June 1859 in Virginia. Died of "accidental scalding" on 31 Jul 1866. This same day, in the evening, Charles Jr., in a rage beat his first wife Clarrisa to death with a shovel. Highly suspect that the two incidents are related.

From the book "The Story of Cole Younger" by himself, printed 1903. Our Charles? Appears to be right age, family rumor has him in Mo in the time frame of end of CW and Jul 1866.
