Johan Gottfried (Godfrey) Melich (b. July 14, 1724, d. September 11, 1776)
Notes for Johan Gottfried (Godfrey) Melich:
Gottfried lived with his older brother Johannes until his maturity and then settled on land that was bought for him in Greeenwich twp., Sussex, now Warren Co. NJ.
Godfrey Melich as he was known in America emmigrated from Germany in 1735 with Johannes his older brother, landing in Philadelphia 29 May, from the ship Mercury.
He remained a member of Johannes' family until 1747 when he removed to Greenwich Twp. Susses, now Warren County NJ -- not far from the Penn. State line, where he permanently settled on land that had been purchased for him during his minority and where he died 11 Sept. 1776 at the age of 52.
He took a bride of 15, on 24 May, 1848, Margaret, the daughter of Christian Falkenberger, b. 2 Feb. 1733, d. 26 Sept. 1799, a young woman of some education and refinement, as is evidenced in her coorespondence.
