1. Yurek, Richard August "Dick" Age 77, of Mtka., died peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2008. He was born February 9, 1931 in St. Paul. He was the son of Anthony Leo & Anna Marie (Dorle) Yurek. He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Thelma (Bedford); his 4 children, Lorinda Mathwig, Michele Klein, Stephen, and Carla Swirtz; 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Ashley, Jessica, Joshua, Patrick, Rachel, Rayanne and Hailey; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald; his sister, Lorraine; and his daughter, Mary Judith. Dick graduated from North St. Paul High School, served in the US Navy during the Korean War and graduated from the University of Minnesota. He retired in 1991 as Director of Tax for the Minnesota Debarment of Economic Security. He was also the co-owner of a Coast- to-Coast Hardware store in Hopkins, then Bloomington. After retirement he committed his life to helping others by reaching out to people in need and actively promoting social justice within his parish as well as with St. Stephen's and Acts of St. Paul. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 PM on Monday, April 28 at Wasburn-McReavy Strobeck Johnson Chapel, 1400 Mainstreet Hopkins and from 9:30-10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 13505 Excelsior Blvd., Mtka. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorials be made to St. Stephen's Human Services or Project for Pride of Living.
