My Zaenger - Zšnger - Zenger Roots

Updated August 25, 2014

Ian C Zaenger

iczang@msn.com

I am researching the surname ZAENGER, traced back into the late 1500's as originating in Switzerland. There it was spelled either ZENGER or ZńNGER. My direct line branch ancestors emigrated from Switzerland to Alsace about 1690, before my American immigrant ancestor arrived in 1854.

Related surnames: CONOLD, MCKEE, WALTER(S), HIRTZEL, PETER, JUNG, FEUER, KAEMPF, TREUSCHEL, PROPHETER, FRASIER, DUNBAR, GRAHAM; plus many others.

Also researching my BUSSE line, originating in the early to mid 1700's in Prussia. Immigrant ancestors arrived in America in the 1860's.

Related surnames: BUCH, LEADERS (LUEDERS), POPE, HOWARD, BOATMAN, KRUSEMARK, RICHARDSON, JONES, CLARK, AUSTIN, DOWNING, MERRIFIELD, WINZER, BLEICH

Please see attached files for a more detailed discussion. I am (slowly!) beginning to include files containing my research notes (some with sources) for a number of the lines that I am investigating. Caution! Some of these data are reliable; some are less so! These are just my research outlines, so I include some data that I am still trying to verify (to MY satisfaction). Look at the sources - the more primary source material that is mentioned, then the more reliable I consider the fact. I believe what is shown here to be true, but I would NOT be surprised to find some errors. I would be happy to hear from anyone who would be able to set me straight on any mistakes. Thanks.

I also now have a dsl account, so you can reach me at iczang(at)*byespam*sbcglobal.net (just use the @ symbol instead of (at), and remove the *byespam* from the address; this is to foil those insidious spambots)

Regarding August 2014 updates to Related Files:
My current version (FTM 2012) does not seem to produce clean exports to html, resulting in some clipping of text. Sorry about that, but there may not be enough time to fix it before the September 30 deadline for site closure. Contact me if you have interest and I can try to send you a clean pdf version of the files, which seem to be fine. Reference lists are also available.
