Anthony Abookire emigrated from Lebanon to the US in 1902. He married Marie Katherine Mady in Mckeesport Pennsylvania in 1912. The Abookires moved to Elyria Ohio from Cleveland in 1919 where they opened the first Army Navy surplus on West Broad street in Elyria. From 1923 to 1948 he was the proprietor of the Abookire Grocery at 17th st and Middle Ave. Another Abookire grocery was latter managed by their son Norman. George and Columbus Rufo later co-owned and managed The Supreme Hardware store. They lived at 1605 Middle Ave from 1945 until they moved to California in 1974. They were members of the Washington Ave Christian Church. Both Anthony and Marie are buried in Calvary cemetary in Lorain Ohio.
