Notes for Josefa Marek:
From a May 14, 1970 letter written by Margaret Farnsworth the Immigrants Service League, Chicago, Ill:"Could you help finding information about my grandfather. We were to Poland last year, found grandmother's family in small village called Rozdazewko, Poznan Poland. There the survivors said that Grandfather was not Polish.Somone was to ask around when he went to church but we have not hear from him since.
Grandfather's name was Ignacy Pauter.Came to American in the 1880s with wife Josefa, an infant daughter Maria and a brother-in-law Jan Marek. . . .
They lived (at 1174 N. Leavitt old number) when changed it was 2137 N. Neavitt St., Chicago, IL.Later a sone John Pauter was born.
Very mysteriously we came upon a painting in a small museum in Paris and saw a painting by Jean Pautre.Found many Pautre's in Directories in Paris Post Office.Looked for a Pauter in Poland and Germany but found none. . . .
We even went to Pau France where there are Tall persons. Grandfather was a large, tall person also.
He was purportedly an orphan, came to Rozdazewko as a stranger--penniless, yet the legend of his sister Margarite older than grandfather and for whom I was named perpetuated the idea that she was a countess--perhaps by marriage."
