The Zeichner Family originated from Kolomea/Kolomyya/Kolomyja, Austro-Hungarian Empire, now The Ukraine. Yisrul/Israel Zeichner, later known as Sam, was the second youngest child of Zalman and Ethel Zeichner. Zalman owned a pottery shop in Kolomea. Yisrul married Lotte Stupp, daughter of Chaskell Stupp of Sadgura/Sadagura, Romania. They came to New York arriving on January 4, 1907, leaving their two sons, Joseph and Jack in Sadagura with her parents. Initially, they stayed with Shebsel Zeichner. Yisrul's uncle in New York and evenutally they settled in New Jersey. Over 5 years later, Yisrul went back to Kolomea and returned with the boys arriving in New York on August 22, 1912. Zusky Divock, later known as Sam, originated from Grodno, Poland. He married Rifke Kasharsky, one of eight children of Mendel Kasharsky from Kamenka, Poland. The name of Zusky's father is unclear. His tombstone read Avrohum, yet his application for Social Security reads Gerald and his mother is listed as Nehama. In addition, the last name may have been Divak, not Divock which is a more consistent spelling for the region from which he came. They arrived in Boston on May 14, 1904 just two months after they married. They lived there and later in New York then settling in Toledo, Ohio where he was a builder. They subsequently moved to Jersey City, NJ and later settled in Bayonne. He continued building homes and apartments, but with the depression, he turned to the fish business and owned a fish market in Bayonne. They had four children, Louis, Ann, Sally, and Esther. Esther died at age 14. The two families were joined together by the marriage of Joseph Zeichner and Sally Divock which took place in Jersey City, NJ on January 14, 1934. From this union came three sones, Saul, born October 6, 1935; Charles and Marvin, twins born December 1, 1940.
