The Zequeira family of Puerto Rico direct descendants of Cathalina Sequeira and Ruy López de Almeyda of Oporto,Portugal. Eight generation later in Portugal,Andrés de Sequeira de Almeyda baptized in Santa María de Sediellos parish,Oporto on december 13, 1643 emigrated to Seville, Spain and married María Francisca de Paula Ramallo y Paredes. One of their sons Juan Francisco de Zequeira y Ramallo Havana,Cuba where he married Teresa de León y Grimaldo. Two of their sons were Felipe José Antonio, First Count of Lagunillas, and Simón de Zequeira y León. Simón de Zequeira y León married Sebastiana Arango Miereles, their son Manuel de Zequeira y Arango baptized on December 13,1760, was governor of Rio Hacha, Nueva Granada, military and political governor of Santa Marta and Lieutenant King of Cartagena de Indias(circa 1813),Colombia, married Belén Caro de Ovideo y Campuzano of Santo Domingo,Hispaniola baptized on January 25, 1767. Belén Caro de Oviedo, Mayorazgo de Oviedo y Bastidas, emigrated to Havana,Cuba. Belén Caro de Oviedo-Campuzano a direct descendant of historian Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo of Madrid,born in August 1478 and died in Santo Domingo, Hispaniola in June 26 1557 he wrote the "Historia General y Natural de las Indias" (1535); Belén also a descendant of Spanish Conquistador and Adelantado de Santa Marta, Rodrigo de Bastidas born in 1468 at Triana, Seville. Manuel de Zequeira y Arango and Belén Caro de Oviedo-Campuzano married in Havana,Cuba on September 13, 1796.One of their sons, Simón de Zequeira y Caro, emigrated to Puerto Rico (circa 1838)and married Eladia Benitez de Arce. Simón and Eladia had Belén and Javier Zequeira Benitez. Belén married Manuel Cuevas Basener and had several children all of Cuevas-Zequeira surmane. Javier Zequeira Benitez held the royal post of Mayor-at-Large in the Ultramar Province of Puerto Rico and served interim posts at diverse municipalities of Puerto Rico,such as Yauco and Barceloneta. Javier Zequeira Benitez married his cousin Cecilia Benitez y Nerón-Longpré of Vieques, then the widow of his and her cousin José Gautier Benitez, romantic poet of the nineteeth century and had two sons, Javier II and Jorge. Jorge married Mercedes Calderón and had two children, Jorge and Mercedes(Memín). Mercedes married Juan Bennazar and had two children . This second Javier Zequeira Benitez II, married Belén Blanco-Acosta of San Juan, grand-daughter of Julián Blanco Sosa a puertorrican educator and grand-niece of José Julián Acosta y Calvo a political leader and abolitionist. Javier and Belén had five children: Belén, married Luis Rechani Agrait and had three daughters: Xavier, married Rafaelina Toral-Cruz a.k.a. Belga Vilá and had seven children; Mercedes, married Salvador Antonetti Mentrié and had four children; Marcos, married Idalia Pereyó and had three children; Jesús.a.k.a.Curucho, married Nellie Juliá Gonzalez and had three daughters. Javier Zequeira Benitez II a.k.a. Javier Zequeira Sanjurjo widowed and married Dolores Martinez de Andino and had three children that reached adulthood,those were: María Dolores (Lolín)left no children, María Cecilia, married William Beckerleg of Michigan and had four children, José Antonio, married Virginia Brinfield of Maryland,had six children and divorced. Now back to Xavier Zequeira-Blanco and Rafaelina Toral-Cruz a.k.a. Belga Vilá, my parents,whose seven children are: Carmen Belén (r.i.p.) married Augusto C. Bobonis-Lang and had eight children; Myself,Xavier,married Celia E. Clausells-Gautier and had four children; Belga María, married Dr.Werner Manuel Fernández Morales and had five children; Ramón Eugenio,married Margarita Ojeda-Colón and had four children; José Rafael, married Mayra Alvarez López del Valle and had two sons; María Isabel (Marisa),married Luis Muñoz Arjona and had one child,divorced and married Carlos De Orduña De Casenave and had two children; Inés María, married Alberto Ferrer González and had two daughters.
