* The ZIMMERMANNs of Elizabeth, New Jersey*

Updated January 7, 2006

The year 2005 marked the 300 year anniversary of the birth of Nikolaus Zimmermann. This presentation follows the descendents of Nikolaus and Maria (Wasmer) Zimmermann of Todtmoos Weg, Engelschwand, Altenschwand, Germany, to Säckingen, Germany, and eventually the United States.

My Grand Parents, Joseph and Karoline (Schmitt) Zimmermann, whose origins were in Todtmoos, Stambach, and Säckingen, Germany, migrated to Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the late 1890's. This is the essence of my search.

Their struggles included raising 10 children during two eras of world strife and the Depression Era. Their success was 10 fine children and the establishment of the Joseph Zimmermann Travel Bureau of Elizabeth and Linden, New Jersey.

I dedicate this site to all my relatives that have and have not contributed information. I have learned that the two World Wars have tainted the desires of those in Germany to contribute such information. For it was in those wars that the wartime regimes demanded that the citizenry provide three generations of family ancestry and their prospective faiths in religion.
